Greetings Gothickers.
What is the difference between stone tablets and old stone tablets?
I read that I can give them to Vatras or I can read them for stat boosts at higher level. How do I know whether to do one or the other? And how do I know what stat boost a tablet can give? Maybe that will be easy to see when I learn to read them.
I gave Erol the three tablets I took off the bandits by the bridge, assuming that was their purpose, but all the others I just found in random places. I've been carrying them around wondering what they are for. All I know is that if I get into the Ring of Water I will meet Myxir somewhere and need loads of LP to learn to read them.

Thank you.

IIRC, stone tablets grant attribute boosts and are best saved until later. Myxir will teach you how to read them. As for old tablets, Vatras will reward you depending on how many you deliver at a time (over 10 you'll get a bonus to max mana, otherwise you'll get consumables).

They look different but, it's been a while so I'm not sure how.

EDIT: watched a U-tube video to jog my memory - still not certain but I think the "old stone tablets" are rounded on the top.

Like it was said - the 'normal' tablets will enhance your stats or skills upon reading them, if you know the proper language cast level. It's a nice way to buff you character when learing from others is too expensive... but I'm not sure if this will let you totaly skip teachers - there are not enough tablets for one subject. But when to use them it's up to you.
And if not in the item description, then at least the tablets name should say, generaly, about what it is.
The black, old ones are only colectibels to sale to Vatras, and you can't learn anything from them.

Much appreciated!
Only sell old stone tablets to Vatras at one time. The amount you give him the first time he will give you bonus's mana. Thus, if you wait until you have 22 old stone tablets and show them to him at that point, he will give you 22 bonus mana, and not just potions if you turn them in a little at a time.

Extra mana is good for any character, especially mages. So do chapter 1, collect as many as you can on the map, do the dlc, collect as many as you can.. you can get about 22-23 at this point. I think 2 in the chapter 2 mines map, so not really useful doing it after that. I would do chapter 1, collect them, do the dlc, collect more then go talk to Vatras to turn them in.

NOTE: There is a bug, if you free the slaves in the DLC and go talk to Vatras at that point, and mention the freed slaves, etc then the ability to turn in the tablets DISAPPEARS due to a bug. So turn in your tablets after you are done with the DLC FIRST THING while the option is there, do not talk about anything else. Get your bonus mana, THEN talk to him to finish other quests. If you forget, not a huge deal, then just toss the old tablets away, edit in extra mana you would have gotten in the Marvin code, and continue on.

The ability tablets you learn the 3 languages for the 3 tiers and use them as you need, making sure to use tablets for abilities of your build later in the game after you are done using lps to raise them. For instance if your making up a 2 handed paladin, you'll want to train up your 2 handed skill to 75 first, THEN use the 5% book, and the tablets for the last 20%, reaching 100 (the max).
