I seem to be missing a lot of the plot of the game, there is no intro movie when I start it up, and when I start single player campaign it goes straight to the in-game cut-scene of baz getting thrown out of the ship.

Next when I save the first smartie and jump down the hole, it seems like there should be some sort of cut-scene after that but theres nothing, am I just imagining things?

Same here, no intro movie and straight into the ingame cutscene with baz, just like on this video here.

As for what happens after saving Timmy, check this video here (skip ahead to 4:20)

As far as I know there is no actual introduction video. The game does indeed have this ridiculously abrupt start (which is a bit confusing at first but actually fits to the game's style and humor).
