If anyone is trying to install the expansions Desert Siege and Island Thunder for the GOG version of Ghost Recon without the original Ghost Recon installed this should work.

I haven't tested it on a 32 bit version of Windows but there's a good chance it will work there too if you follow the readme file, only one step will be different.

This is the easiest way I could get it working.

Basically download this RAR file, inside is a folder called "GRInstall" put that on your "C:\" drive and follow the readme.txt included therein.

Download links..
https://mega.nz/#!oNIwlRKK!EX0PaIvZt98SH6Pc5BYQsT2IOwopqU54isLQJRaOmeI
or
http://2share.co.za/Files/GRInstall.rar
or
http://en.file-upload.net/download-8666001/GRInstall.rar.html

Here is the included Readme.txt from the archive to give you an idea...
------
To install the Ghost Recon addons ("Desert Siege" and "Island Thunder")
for the GOG version without the original Ghost Recon installed...

Place the included "GRInstall" folder on your C:\ drive, so its path
is "C:\GRInstall". From inside "C:\GRInstall" run "Reg x64.reg" to
add information to the Windows Registry. If using a 32bit version of
Windows use "Reg x32.reg" but I haven't tested the 32bit version.

You should now be able to run the installers for the addons
and they should install into "C:\Ghost Recon".

Install the addons (Desert Siege and Island Thunder) then
copy from the "C:\Ghost Recon" the "DATA" and "MODS" folders
and paste them into your GOG Ghost Recon install folder, you
will have to replace any existing files.

The Desert Siege and Island Thunder addons should now be
available when starting a new campaign, so you can now delete
the "C:\GRInstall" and "C:\Ghost Recon" folders.
---

PS It might be a good idea to keep those "DATA" and "MODS" folders backup up so in future you can just copy them into the GOG version of the game if you reinstall it, as that's all you really need.

Edit, just to clarify, these files are from Installshield when installing the old Ghost Recon, they just hold some data the expansions use to install, such as where the Ghost Recon game is installed so it knows where to install the expansions. So having these files and the registry entries tricks the installers for the expansions into thinking that Ghost Recon is installed into "C:\Ghost Recon" even though it's not installed. Thank Installshield for this stupidity.

If you were to install Ghost Recon from an old CD onto a 64bit system these Installshield files would be located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{D89EF3B3-6F17-4665-B7A9-A4235A6DC787}".

The registry points to the Installshield files and the Installshield files point to where the game is installed, The expantions use that to install.

Edited to add new links for the file.

The download link is not trusted by ESET, it keeps getting blocked (and I don't feel secure enough about it to whitelist the whole site).
If you can install a non GOG version of ghost recon and then install the expansion packs and update it, all you need to do once that version is updated to 1.4 is save the Mp1 and Mp2 folders in the Mods folder and then drop them into the GOG version's Mods folder. You can even save these two folders as compressed files with your GOG installer.

I have this version of the game(in addition to the GOG version): http://www.mobygames.com/game/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-gold-edition_

When you install the expansion disc it will install both expansions and automatically update all the files to 1.4. In Fact you can install the first disc and throw away the folder and still install the second. I did a comparison of the GOG version folder and a gold disc install after tossing the Ghost Recon folder(so all I got was the gold disc's contents) and ignored all the files that were only in one or the other(So I didn't get files that were only in the expansion or only in the base game(in essence just what was in patch 1.4). Of all same named files the only 2 that were different were a patch log(Whatsnew, one didn't say what was in 1.4) and the ghost recon.exe(since GOG version is DRM free.)

I even tested and both Mods showed in the Mod list and could be activated and I played 1 map briefly to test.

Well, I've done that aaand with the mods on board Ghost Recon just won't even launch. Tried compatibility modes and all. Is it fixable?

DubConqueror, sorry for the very very late reply, maybe it was before GOG informed people of replies or maybe I just missed it. You seem to be right about ESET blocking the download which is strange as checking that site through virustotal.com shows everyone says it's clear including ESET.

Anyway I checked the hash and the file wasn't being tampered with by that site though thought I'd upload it to alternate locations as it's understandable people might not want to download from a site their AV is giving warning about regardless of it been warranted.

So here are some other links..

Hey F0xtail, I haven't done this in ages but I can take a look presuming I still have my disks laying around somewhere. I might no longer have them as once I got it working I backed up the game/folder as is into a new installer so if I ever had to reinstall I wouldn't have to use the GOG installer or the installers for the expansions etc.

I still have the game/folder on the drive from from when I made the post and it's still working (I managed to start each of the campaigns on Windows 7 x64). Would you mind listing your Operating System etc, and I presume the game works find before you try these things?

Thanks for answering anyway, but I don't need it any more. I have bought the original Ghost Recon + add-ons, installed from disc, copied the add-on folders to my backup drive, de-installed the disc version, installed the GOG version, than put the add-ons back in their place inside the (now GOG-)game folder. Bit roundabout and bit expensive, but I managed.

The .reg hack doesn't work on my end. I had to find my old disks and install from there.
Could it be a region difference?
I install GOG Ghost Recon Only and game run OK. After this installation Derert Siege and Island Thunder game run OK, but i don't move. Key assigned in options W, S, A, D movement, but not working... :/

Edit: I reinstall all and movement worked fine. I do not know what I had done bad. :)

Yep confirmed it works. took me 2 times to get it right but it does work. I have a Gold Edition of Ghost Recon that includes the expansion packs that a friend gave me 10 years ago, and this is dope because now I can play the expansions with ghost recon GOG version. Why the actual actual did the GOG team not ad the expansion packs with the original game? WTF?

The installer is asking for the disk with data cab 2 the download only had data cab 1
what am I missing here? Is there any way to get a download of the extracted files?
Update: No response needed I went and got the game and expansions on steam.

Ran the x64.reg file, then went to install using the Setup.exe, but I'm getting this error;

"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched.

Class is not registered."

Any ideas?

Hey daCanucklehead, sorry for the late reply but I don't seem to get any notification about replies here, it's pure chance I checked into this forum.

Presuming you're using the files as intended (for installing the expansion from CD / disc image / iso etc..) and followed the instructions correctly. And when you say you're running "setup.exe" you're referring to the setup.exe that's part of the installer for one of the expansions (ie the setup.exe that's located on the CD/image/etc).

I guess you could try make sure you're running any installers as administrator, it would probably be a good idea to do this from an account that has administrator rights to rule out and avoid any account permission problems.

The only other thing that I could suggest is something might be wrong with the Installshield Engine that's already on your PC. If that's the case you should be able to replace/update it.

For example you should have a file on your computer at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32\IKernel.exe"

You could try to rename that "engine" folder (maybe rename it to "engineOLD" so you can easily restore it if needed for some reason), then download and run this from Installshield.com
http://support.installshield.com/kb/files/Q108322/IkernelUpdate.exe

That should create a new "engine" folder with working files and hopefully the installers will then work.

You can fine more information about this process on these two pages, just note that when they refer to the folder path "C:\Program Files\" you should probably instead use "C:\Program Files (x86)\" because you seem to be using a 64bit system.

and

Hope it helps, and let me know. If it doesn't there might be another way.

I just checked the download file and it contains both the .reg files mentioned (infact the archive hasn't changed since orignal upload). If your system is hiding file extensions they may appear as mentioned but without the ".reg" at the end of the name.
Does this include Island Thunder as well?
