Or is it a forced update?

2.0 is still in beta, yet the 1.2 download link is gone.

And my local installation forced an update to 2.0.

For a client that promotes freedom of choice above all else, I am heavily disappointed in it.

Good job, GOG.

They went ahead and forced the update? Well I guess I'm lucky then, as mine has not.

You can download the 1.2 setup executable here: https://content-system.gog.com/open_link/download?path=/open/galaxy/client/setup_galaxy_1.2.67.58.exe

When it's installed, uncheck the Run Galaxy at Startup option, close Galaxy, then add a shortcut to your startup folder to Galaxy with the /runWithoutUpdating argument, then restart Galaxy from that shortcut.

It's a forced update to the 2.0 beta for everyone.

You can still download 1.2 here:

https://content-system.gog.com/open_link/download?path=/open/galaxy/client/setup_galaxy_1.2.67.58.exe

It will update by itself to 2.0 if you do not add /runWithoutUpdating to the Galaxy shortcut. Someone has said even with that command theirs updated, but mine is still 1.2, and I will continue to point people in this direction until it no longer works for me.

Edit: ZyloxDragon just got it posted first, cheers.

For me it was not a forced update, I was prompted and thought I would give it a second try. Once more I uninstalled it almost immediately because it did not import the tags and hidden status of the games I had.

It also is missing much of the functionality that I used in 1.x, or at least it was not in a place that I could find. Will I try 2.0 again? No. Will I ever use Galaxy again if they Remove the 1.x version? No. Can I play my games without Galaxy? Yes. So I will always have a viable alternative to using 2.0

Exactly my thinking. If I am forced to use 2.0, I will not use it at all. I have an incredible long backlog of games. More than I could play in my lifetime. GoG will just be saving me money from being enticed to buy the newest shiny, because I'll never see it because I'll not be using Galaxy.

Possibility that the person forgot to restart Galaxy after updating the shortcut, or had it set to autostart from the application rather than thru the shortcut. I also added inbound/outbound rules to the Windows firewall for the three update.exe files that GOG has installed in the AppData directory. Not sure if that helps me, but I don't want to test it, haha.

Note: I think you're the person I originally got that /runWithoutUpdating argument from, so thanks!
It still updated for me. Currently uninstalling it. Maybe I put the command in wrong but I don’t think so.

Thanks, so far so good.

I also went into Task Manager -> Start-up and re-disabled it there.

I'm puzzled though as to why my browser popped open with a adservice dot google dot com URL (the lengthy url included embed dot gog dot com slash library slash windows). Fortunately my browser blocks that shit. Take that scummy auto updating ad serving cretins!

"Someone has said even with that command theirs updated..."
Maybe this will help someone:
Right-click the Galaxy shortcut, Properties, Target, go to the end (or press the End key) put a space and /runWithoutUpdating . Click Apply.

Thanks for the idea.

Sadly this also shows how large the distrust has grown already among GOGs once happy and trusting customer base. Forced updates and bad communication are maybe not a good idea after all?

If anybody of GOGs staff finds their way into their forums: wtf happened to the GOG I once liked and supported? I do want my old GOG back (well my old Galaxy too, but that problem seems secondary now)!

apparently they all turn bad, this "release" is just the first step i really notice. still makes me angry when i think about it. although i always prefered galaxy1 maybe i'll switch to steam or something.

this is classic missmanagement 1 o 1. someone on the way of the project galaxy2 made some really horrible decisions, now it's too late to change it and in the end the customer pays the price in form of a shitty product ...
