The plugins are written by the community, not by GOG. It's doubtful you'll receive any response from GOG here about it, particularly since it's extremely rare they say anything on the forums about their own stuff.

Check with the developr of the plugin. There was a few things written on their discussions that sounded related to the issues that the downloader had when it first was developed by the community.

If you want an alternative frontend and don't want to go back to Galaxy 1.2, check out Playnite or Launchbox. I know Launchbox has minimal issues with updating it's library with information from your GOG account when you first set it up (takes a while though).
This issue is NOT resolved, it keeps happening.
I went to the github page for this plugin and found a post from someone stating that version 0.46 still works correctly. Lo and behold, using this version works for me too, where later versions constantly crash.

This is indeed not GOG's problem to solve. The developer of the plugin needs to fix it. But I'm sure it's a labor of love, not this person's full time job. Go and post on the github page and they'll ask you for logs so you can help them fix the issue!

Link to working version: github[dot]com/FriendsOfGalaxy/galaxy-integration-steam/releases/tag/v0.46

To "install" - delete the contents of the folder
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\plugins\installed\steam_ca27391f-2675-49b1-92c0-896d43afa4f8
and replace with the contents of the windows.zip file

Yes, you will have to reauthenticate to Steam.

Hope this helps!

I've posted a couple of times to check with the plugin developer. I think in most cases, they come here just to drop the complaint, and then leave without researching anything. I wonder if the plugin developers could add a check to see if it's connected correctly, and if not, bring up some sort of notification window that tells them to visit their github page?

Glad it works though!

Thanks man, that helped a lot. Steam is connected now. At least for some time.
Yes I get that Steam is a 3rd party plugin, but really it's ridiculous that by version 2.0 GOG is relying on these community plugins rather than creating and supporting a plugin themselves. The only "official" integration they offer is Xbox Live, everything else is community. Steam has the largest base of PC gamers and it's not even close, and PSN (who's plugin also is constantly broken) is huge as well.

The whole point of Galaxy is to act as a universal frontend for games by bringing together other gaming platforms beyond just GOG. Getting these integrations to actually work should be a priority.
Galaxy autoupdates the plugins if a new version is available. At least in theory a manual updating should not be needed. If a plugin must be deleted and updated manually is because something was wrong.

I think the problem is not the updating of the Steam or Uplay client. I am starting to think that the problem resides in the autologin or something like this. I have noticed that when the plugins are connected they stay in that way and are responsible and useable for hours while you have the Galaxy opened. But Uplay and Steam specifically use to crash when I had my Galaxy client opened and/or with the computer in hibernation or sleep mode, or so.

If the plugins are unresponsible and you have to reconnect them constantly the manual deleting and manual coping works, though.

Another problem is the tendence of plugins not being enabled when Galaxy is launched, at random, and you have to make it yourself. This is a mystery for me, because it use to be a constant, and each time are a different bunch of plugins the rebel ones.
But as I just said, when you manually enable them they keep stable. Except the two ones that have some kind of doubled security login "switched on" in the original client.

I am starting to think that that it has something to do with this annoying unstability problem. But honestly I am not sure at all.

Metheglin: Had a look at the client log, don't know if the following info is useful but I'll paste it anyway:
Erm ... how did you enable loging? Because I have another problem but can't find a logfile generated.
Sure, not GOG's problem to solve. But a main reason to batch all launchers together. I'm getting really tired of having to reconnect and retry pretty much every time I try to run a game.
All respect to the ones making the plugins and doing the dirty work.
I am still Offiline on Steam and now PSN can't connect.
*sigh* One would think they would have fixed those kinds of problems by now. And I can't rely on 3rd-party people from fixing everything for ever. GOG needs to step up now.
Is there a way to prevent GOG Galaxy to update the steam plugin?!

You can change the plugin version so Galaxy thinks it's already up to date. I did it back in February when the plugin decided to reimport all games every now and then and I can confirm it still works today.

1. Go to the plugin folder
2. Open manifest.json in your favorite text editor (I use Notepads but the standard notepad should work as well)
3. Change the version tag to the current release (0.50.6) or newer
4. Save it and open Galaxy

The plugin won't be updated automatically until there's a higher build available.

That was very helpful - A big thanks to all of you!
I like the Galaxy-App and I'm glad that this worked.
