It was officially said that it was linked to the epic integrated game platform, which allows players to install and run epic games on the gog galaxy, but the latest version still requires the epic client to be launched to install the game, and no substantial changes have taken place.

What's going on?

whats going on is that you misunderstood what was said. you were already able to link your epic account before the latest update, the update just makes the plugin an official version managed by gog instead of the community. nothing else changes for the user. you still need the client for every single plugin if you want to install, uninstall or start a game

Pretty sure Epic doesn't require the launcher to start the game, only to install it. I could be wrong on that, I haven't used any of the integration options personally, but I'm PRETTY sure that's how it works.

Some games on Epic Game Store are completely DRM free and don't require the launcher, but it's not universal. For example, Shenmue 3 will just freeze on a black screen unless it's launched from the Epic Games client.

Galaxy is always going to require the clients from other stores to perform operations like installing, uninstall or launching games, that's not going to change.
