Time4Tea: Sorry, but I have no interest whatsoever in the Galaxy client, or other online game stores. All I want is to be able to
purchase DRM-free games and be able to download standalone installers for them, which I can back up and do what I want with. As long as that continues to be possible; all games sold on GOG.com continue to be DRM-free; and Galaxy continues to be optional, I will continue to shop on GOG.com.

I've been glad to see GOG partnering with MS and Epic for integration, but I worry this is going too far. The main draw of GOG is having a storefront where DRM Free goes without saying, instead of having to sweat over researching each and every purchase. Lose that and GOG is just another imitator of Steam (or Epic) with fewer features and smaller selection.

These games had better be clearly and explicitly marked when they don't meet the normal GOG standards of being DRM-free and/or of having an offline installer. As someone said above, I imagine the second is true of all of them.

Currently the highest-voted entry I could find is this with a grand total of three votes. I think GOG might need to look up the definition of “most” (or even “requested”).
And of course, I find this move completely unacceptable, as it is both an implicit endorsement of DRM and anti-consumer practices (see Epic's recent history for examples), and it will probably hurt GOG itself in the long run exactly because publishers are probably less inclined to make a special deal with GOG if they already sell games there indirectly through Epic.

This makes me sad. As stated before, why should publishers release games on GOG, if they already have an Epic-Version sold through GOG-Galaxy? Why should they maintain two versions, if one is enough to reach two user bases?

I was hoping for The Outer Worlds and Phoenix Point here.

I think we have to wait, how this develops...

I doubt there were many requests about this feature, if any at all...
But as long as you keep the good things untouched, I don't really mind it. Anyway, how is this thing going to be tested? Are you sending invites for it via e-mail or what? I haven't noticed any changes in the store tab.

I am also hoping for Phoenix Point, as a *sigh* fig backer... The fact that they announced its upcoming release only on steam is most suspicious, and I won't accept a key for that platform. I already have the game on a DRMed, client dependant, platform.

And no, having EGS perfectly integrated into Galaxy won't make me accept games from their store as if they were from GOG.

I don't really see the point in allowing publishers to sell their games on GoG through different stores.

If they really want to sell their games on GoG, they simply have to put it on sell here.

If they don't want, everyone can decide if it worth to buy these games elsewhere or not (and eventually to integrate them on Galaxy or not).

As I'm concerned, I'll continue to stick with the principe "No GoG, no buy".
And, of course, integrated stores don't count. I only want to purchase my PC games on GoG, DRM Free, only tied to my GoG account.

This all sounds so familiar. Impulse (Stardock) was originally touted as DRM free too, with the owner spouting about gamers rights and them being treated fairly etc. It lasted until they started selling Steam keys for games, not long after Impulse was sold off.

CDP and GOG aren't going to listen to us, they never have. We might get some sort of "we're listening" and promptly ignored while the "invited" laud it as a great move.

To put my thoughts succinctly, this is a f------ stupid decision.

We're sorry to hear that this annoncement has caused confusion, so let me try to address some misunderstandings that I've seen in the comments.

Naturally GOG.COM remains a DRM-free Store. GOG GALAXY 2.0 is an optional app, and was created to organize all of your games across multiple gaming platforms. The new store inside the app approaches this sentiment to welcome all games from all platforms, including GOG.COM.

It's worth pointing out that if you don't want to see it and stick to GOG.COM, you can opt out of it in the GOG GALAXY settings. That way only the GOG.COM store will be visible inside the app. We're constantly gathering feedback and are hoping to make the app better and better with each update!

There is also a handy FAQ which might answer some other questions you have in mind. =)

Epic gaems store is an opposition of GOG.
GOG is the most fair and user-friendly platform.
EGS is an wannabe-monopolist which doesnt consider any buyer's opinion.

Well, I find these news interesting. On a lot of forums people find GOG Galaxy 2 interesting until they hear that they still need to install and buy games on other platforms anyway. This takes away one of the complaints they have and might bring some people to the store application.

Funny, this was exactly what popped into mind when I saw the "most requested feature" argument.

Of note, however, is that the threshold for what consists a "most requested feature" that GOG will rush to implement seems to have dropped significantly since then.

Yes. I believe someone in another thread has found the relevant wishlist entry for the current change. It has/had 3 votes.

obliviondoll: OK, but when are you putting it back into being properly treated as the far-from-ready beta it so clearly is? There's active service-breaking problems and you're still not rolling it back to give users proper access to the last known stable client.

Staff have directly confirmed it's in beta, but users opting out of beta testing are still having the client auto-update into a blatent unpolished mess of a beta build that isn't ready for widespread launch yet.
What are you talking about, I've had literally zero issues with Galaxy even back when it was beta and continues to work perfectly today as well.
