Long story short: I downloaded GOG Galaxy 2.0 onto a new computer, and it's just been a nightmare. Every single game I try to download fails, and even after I manually download the install files from the GOG website, once they're installed, anything that gets an update automatically fails, and continues to fail every single time I boot up my comptuer or Galaxy 2.0. Disco Elysium has been trying to download a patch for like a week now, and the patch isn't uploaded to the GOG website yet, so I have to just keep hoping it'll properly download/install, but it never does.

Is there any way to get a download of the old, regular client? Maybe I'm just blind, but I can't find it anywhere on the GOG website, and Galaxy 2.0 thing is just terrible for me. The fact that it's been going on for so long with no fix is unbelievable. I just want the old client back, if possible.

You can download it here: https://content-system.gog.com/open_link/download?path=/open/galaxy/client/setup_galaxy_1.2.67.58.exe

Uninstall 2.0, reinstall 1.2.

Do not start Galaxy 1.2 after installation.

Rename the following file: GalaxyUpdater.exe to GalaxyUpdater.old -> only rename, do not delete.

You can find this file here: C: \ ProgramData \ GOG.com \ Galaxy \ redists

Edit shortcut: ("C: \ Program Files (x86) \ GOG Galaxy \ GalaxyClient.exe" / runWithoutUpdating)

You can (but need not) remove Galaxy from the autostart.

That’s it.

Of course, this is only a temporary solution until Gog turns off version 1.2 completely - but if you don't like the new client or just want to wait until 2.0 is more of your liking, that's at least a time-limited compromise.

If you are in favor of the old client being maintained contrary to Gog's intentions, you can vote here:

This is absolutely fantastic, thank you! I couldn't find that 'GalaxyUpdater.exe' file on my machine, but when I figured up Galaxy 1.2, it didn't force an auto-update to 2.0, so I think I'm okay. I got my old games scanned in and everything, it's working great so far, and immediately several games auto-updated and installed properly, it was great.

Personally, I don't mind the look or feel or whatever of Galaxy 2.0; I just don't like it because it literally does not work. I could not install any game properly, I had to manually download every single game file from GOG.com and install it manually, and then even after they were installed, somehow, Galaxy 2.0 refused to update them properly, somehow. It was absolutely maddening. If/When they actually fix the damn thing so it works as it should, I'll use it. Until then, I'll stick to 1.2 as long as I possibly can.

Thanks again!

ProgramData by default has an attribute associated with the directory to hide it. If you open up a run dialog box and type in C:\programdata\ and then enter (or address bar in Windows Explorer), it will open. There's an option in explorer to show all files including hidden/system ones that you can turn on in the options.

The client does call the updater file throughout the day, so you may want to rename or block it on your firewall. I don't recommend deleting it in the event you decide to update Galaxy it in the future.

If I decide to update in the future I will just uninstall and run the new installer.

That is indeed another option. Multiple options are always better.

Can anybody confirm if this is strictly for keeping the Galaxy client up to date or if this is also for keeping games up to date??

I am still able to update/install games/extras with the file blocked on my firewall, as well as receive notifications.

I can too. I just wondered if a game that's currently, say, version 1.0.2 gets updated to 1.1.0 next week would Galaxy upgrade to it automatically or would I have to do it by hand now.

I just turned on automatic updates since I saw a blue dot next to the BSG game, and it updated.

I'm going to say that it'll update games then :)
