I have Windows 7, I bought a new game, and once I clicked on download and install, it automatically downloaded and installed a newer version of GOG for me. Now I can't launch GOG anymore, and there is no way I'm "upgrading" to Windows 10, what can I do to get my games back? I'm really disappointed with this sneaky update, I have bought dozens of games that I haven't gotten around to playing yet, and with them locked away in digital oblivion, it looks like I might never get to them. What am I supposed to do? I haven't managed to find an earlier version of the launcher that I could download and install.

you dont need Galaxy to launch your games. Just go to your game folders and launch them directly from there.
And if needed create new Desktop Shortcuts from the Game Folders Game Exes (Shortcuts created by Galaxy might try start Galaxy b4 launching the actual game so just delete them and create your own).

Also talking about "sneaky" update when Galaxy 2.0 states Windows 8 in its requirements is a bit meh :D

No, sneaky is correct. Like I said, it updated AUTOMATICALLY. I didn't know it would do that, I thought it was going to be some minor update, I would've declined had I known it was a whole new version that required a newer Windows! I have no idea where all the game files on my HD might actually even be, and searching for each of them is a major hassle, the whole point of this program is that THEY ARE ALL IN ONE PLACE, WHERE THEY CAN BE EASILY ACCESSED FROM. Trolling through hundreds of folder is the opposite of convenient.
I tried launching one my games, but it remains unresponsive.

The newest galaxy update broke compatability with windows 7 (Well 2.0 didn't support Win7 when it was released but it still worked). You can still launch your games by downloading and installing the offline installers (Check attached Picture on how to do that.). If you already have the game installed you can go into the installation folder of your game and launch the .exe file of your game.
If you still want to use galaxy you can do 2 things.

1) Download the older 1.2 version

2) Download an older 2.0 version

The same problem. The client stopped working on Windows 7. Now I'm trying to download the old version of GOG Galaxy 2.0.

I uninstalled Galaxy and reinstalled an older version and was able to launch it, but now it claims I have 0 games installed. I tried "installing" an older game that I've already installed once, and it did a clean install on it and wiped my saves. So I guess using Galaxy is a bust then, have to use the website from now on.
Does anyone know how I can shut off updates until this issue is fixed (if it ends up being fixed)? I'm still on 2.0.37 so it works still, but I want to shut off updates until this is solved.

I will be running a dual boot of Windows 7 and 10 in the future but I can't afford to do so right now, nor do I particularly want to deal with Micro$oft's watermark BS on the unactivated version of 10. I love Galaxy and I hope this was unintentional because there's absolutely ZERO reason why GOG should literally lock people out of Galaxy if they use 7, particularly when it ran with little to no issue on 7 before this.

Disabling auto-updates:

1. Rename the following file: GalaxyUpdater.exe to GalaxyUpdater.old -> only rename, do not delete.

You can find this file here: C: \ ProgramData \ GOG.com \ Galaxy \ redists

2. Edit shortcut: ("C: \ Program Files (x86) \ GOG Galaxy \ GalaxyClient.exe" / runWithoutUpdating)

You can (but need not) remove Galaxy from the autostart.

Information from here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/is_there_any_way_to_download_the_old_gog_galaxy_client/post2

P.S. I installed the old version myself, and did it as described in the instructions, but I can't say anything yet.

Thank you, hopefully GOG will fix this soon because I really hate Microsoft for their constant "upgrade" OSes that end up being dumpster fires, resulting in people being forced to use them.

Try again but before installing an older version of galaxy delete these folders and see what happens.

Also here is a link for the last version of galaxy 2.0 before the update broke Windows 7 compatability

Same here. I use Windows 7 as well and after installing the newest client it wouldn't start up at all. I was able to use it last morning but was suddenly unable to log in last night so I decided to update it manually the next day then worse thing happened as I said before.

I hope them can fix it as soon as possible but for now I think I should try the older version, which is mentioned above, instead of waiting for the next hotfix.

Thanks for providing this link!

I don't believe they will fix it. If you see the requirements it is windows 8 and 10... For now you can only use the older version or still use offline installers.

If so, then they should at least fix it for Windows 8 and hopefully the problem will be gone from Windows 7 as well when they manage to do that. ^

It needs to be fixed. I love GOG but if they don't fix it, I'll lose some respect because things worked just fine before this update. Companies need to quit penalizing people for Microsoft's blatant stupidity.
Hi,
Guys i have the same problem i cant run gog galaxy i have windows 8 and after the update i can nor run the app, so i cant play my games.
have tried to reinstall it a couplre of times but the same result every time.
I think it is kind if shitty of Gog to mess with thier users this way.
