The goal behind GOG GALAXY 2.0 is to bring all your games and friends together in one place. Today, a new partner joins us and takes us another step closer to achieving it.

We’re happy to add to GOG GALAXY 2.0 the official integration with Epic Games Store, which is the second most connected external platform in the app, says Oleg Klapovsky, SVP at GOG. Together with GOG.COM and Xbox Live, those official integrations are bringing a more seamless and reliable experience to gamers.

We’re excited that Epic Games Store integration has come to GOG GALAXY 2.0, said Steve Allison, General Manager of the Epic Games Store. It’s an important step towards breaking down walls between PC stores, as it enables a unified experience for players to manage their PC games library independent of where their games were purchased.

The new official integration is the latest addition to GOG GALAXY 2.0, which we’re constantly improving with features requested by gamers. One of the recently added was the ability to see all your gaming subscriptions in one place. It helps gamers to conveniently browse, install, and launch games from an overwhelming amount of titles available on each subscription.

I'm liking the integration feature. I never cared for GOG Galaxy before. I have 9,000 games on Steam and it is hideous connecting to GOG Galaxy so don't try it, it is too stressful and you won't enjoy the experience if you have a large collection, but for every other platform (GOG, Epic, Ubisoft, Origin, Humble) it has been fantastic as a reference and I have even started playing some GOG games through Galaxy for the first time. My brain just likes this simpler way of handling the 'everything else that isn't Steam', even if ultimately it does require two launchers to launch a game. Just as a reminder of what I have and aren't playing, what I need and want it has proven its value, whether or not I even play anything. It gets my mental juices going and I hope to begin going through my GOG library.

I have 116 games on Steam the fan integration works pretty acceptably for me. I can launch games with basically no problem. I actually have more problems with the Epic integration despite the fact it's official

I gave it another try. It kept aborting my full profile. And it was finally reading the correct count of games, it was taking about 2 minutes to load up the list. I thought it was about 10? It was much better than I thought. But I just reset my laptop and booted into it and timed it at 1 minute. Right now it (or the Helper Application anyway) is CPU intensive at about 30% and 0.5-1gb of RAM, which is a critical issue for me. I believe the CPU issue at least went away last time. In fact, the GOG Galaxy search doesn't stall all the time like Steam does.

EDIT: I guess CPU and RAM usage isn't that bad so long as it doesn't start with Windows. I won't be launching Steam games from ti and most of my GOG only games don't require much CPU/RAM unless I am recording video.

EDIT 2: If the icons are part of the reason for the RAM usage and CPU, I need an option to disable them. I use list mode anyway.

After being on several hours today, GOG is using up to 0.2% of my CPU and just under 300mb of ram. GalaxyClient Helper Application is using 0.1% CPU and just under 200mb of ram. This is with a game total of 11,434.

Steam hasn't been up for hours, I am just loading it now and waiting for it to give stable figures.

Steam is more variable in CPU usage, mostly at 0.1% but it climbs to as much as 1% of my CPU. And the ram usage is just over 600mb. I was surprised to see it so high and wonder why I never looked into this before. Most of it was the WebHelper. I have just learnt about the -no-browser commandline and am loading it with that.

The commandlinet worked. 0.1%-1% CPU and just under 300mb of ram. Pretty much the same ram usage as GOG without the GalaxyClient Helper. But if icons are a part of that, I want to disable them. Those graphics must be cached also, I don't want it using precious HDD space.

EDIT: Somehow GOG dropped to under 100mb, and Helper App is still at just under 200mb. It's been stable at around 80mb?
EDIT 2: What, I can't even see my library with -no-browser on Steam? That makes it pretty much the most pointless feature ever. No point to Steam even running without it.
EDIT 3: GOG Galaxy down to 40mb. So much for 'being on for hours'. Maybe when I posted it was bringing it down from 1GB?
EDIT 4: Brought the GOG Galaxy client window back and it returned to around 150mb, before sending it to the thingy (for some reason my mind is blank, the place where programs go when the windows have been exited) and it drops to under 30mb. Steam when it is sent to the thingy splits the WebHelper rubbish from the main program and uses 300mb, 125mb, and 100mb for a total of 525mb (down from 600 with it open). Regardless of how much better it performs when the interface is closed, GOG Helper Application is now using around 300mb of ram.
EDIT 5: If the icons are 0.1mb that works out to 900mb over 9000 games which is not acceptable for me. If they are 0.01mb, 90mb is.

djoxyk: but in some cases galaxy installs game version that wont run from game executable directly, it will call galaxy instead.
if you want to be sure all of your installed games are DRM free (not dependent on gog launcher) you'll need to install it from offline installers. otherwise there's a chance some games won't run without client.

Gudadantza: Really? running the game shortcut in the folder? And what about running the exe directly? Is the exe hacked or something to run Galaxy?

Honestly with no examples I have my doubts about that.
And you are correct having your doubts. In fact it does not matter at all if you download your game via Galaxy or offline installer at all. The only thing that is different is the shortcut which in case of a Galaxy integration (and unfortunately some offline installers too when you have installed Galaxy) will first launch the client and then start the game. All other files are identical - you could test this using some file comparision program.
Having the icons is nice in case I ever want to make a YouTube video going through my library. It's nice having that graphic. Not only that, it is more inspiring playing a game from that graphic, or lack of graphic. The ones without graphics make me wonder if the games are so bad and should be hidden, so I'm going through a few of those and for the first time used the ratings feature. The first game I tried was 1979 Invasion Earth on Steam, and gave it a 1 star: has some nice spin of Space Invaders, but is largely a mess and not worthy of being an indie commercial game. I don't like hiding games because my mood may change, it is a last resort. Even the bad shovelware is inspiring to me as a person who hopes to get a proper start in gamemaking. But I'd like the ability to add a 1 line comment about the game for future reference.

So I don't think I will be disabling any icon cache if such a feature were made available.

Are you freaking serious? I used galaxy for crossplay with friends or MP requiring strictly galaxy, NOT for BS like this.

So am I now forced to unistall this client because GOG is on drugs?

Of all the companies you want to align with, you choose THE WORST ONE WHICH GOES AGAINST CUSTOMERS.
Ever since the GOG teamed up with Epic, the Epic plugin has been crashing almost every day.

It's gotten worse recently though. For the past few weeks it has been crashing every day not long after launching Galaxy.

Dear GOG,
I purchase games from you because you respect users' rights and you keep the games DRM free. While other features of GOG platform may be useful, non of them is the reason for or against stay with GOG for me. I also use the client - GOG Galaxy (it makes my interaction with GOG platform easier: buying, downloading and running games) and I am happy for a continuous effort to make it better.

So why should I care about the client's ability to purchase games from different platforms? I should be happy that some other users who may use GOG client will have a feature they are asking for, right? But there is also a suspicion...

GOG Galaxy is turning to have its own goal - being a universal client across platforms. Such goal isn't linked to the platform principles and that can be an issue - it can conflict with those principles.
The biggest question is whether publishers and developers will be willing to bring and maintain their games at GOG platform if it is not needed since GOG Galaxy will sell the one from Epic. That can mean fewer games without DRM. I know I will never be able to play some games because of DRM or platform exclusivity. I have accepted it because there is not much I can do with it. The difference is when you undermine your own effort to bring more games to GOG platform by allowing circumvention of the core principles by selling games from other platforms. I have nothing against linking games in GOG client for easy access and start but selling them is a different topic.

Will GOG Galaxy client be able to install, update, or even check if there is any update without the original (Epic) platform? And what if the game from Epic needs another client, the third one (uPlay or Xbox Live)? And what if the game contains anti-cheat rootkits like EAC or Easy Anti-Cheat?
I am sure you have your reasons for during this, I hope the epic money or new business is worth it. I won't use the feature and appreciate that I can opt out.
I agree with Greywolf234 as long as we can opt out, and you don't jack with offline installers knock yourselves out. Though this looks like heading in wrong direction to me.

Same for me. Basically every time I open the client, the plugin has crashed.

To this day, I don't understand why this is added to Galaxy 2.0, when people still scream for fixes or other stuff it needs. If I wanted to buy something from another client, I would buy it from that client, not GOG Galaxy 2.0 (not that I would buy anything from Epic, I prefer stabbing my toes with a AA battery).

In fact, do a poll and add features we might want. And see responses.
