It's weird. I love my GOG games, I've had plenty of time lately what with everything to play them, and I feel like I played around with the new client when it updated enough to kind of get a feel for it, but tonight I suddenly realized for the last month or so I've been just...subconsciously avoiding launching it. I don't know why. I can't put my finger on what I don't like about it.

Then it occurred to me that one of the things that I've always liked about GOG better than Steam is that the launcher is totally optional. My games are still on the website in purchase order. They still show my 'completed' tag right underneath the card. I can still download and play them straight from the start menu.

I uninstalled Galaxy tonight and I feel so happy. :)

sadly this is only half the truth, i got used to cloud saves for example.

also, i doubt the tagging system on the website will remain there. it got removed for a reason and obviously without any plans of migrating its content. i'm not investing any more time here until i know it won't be lost in the future.

I was wondering why I've spent less and less time with GoG, and Timelady hit it on the head, I think. For me, I just want a system that:

- Downloads games. Has a link to full, DRM-free games.
- No social features or useless clutter I will never use.
- Rolls out changes gradually, with significant community testing/feedback that is factored in.

Every single service right now is rolling out terrible, eyebleedingly bad new designs. Many of which have been/had been used before, but... I'm using useragents and scripts for twitter/youtube (neither of which I'm social on, but I'm constantly directed to tweets for work stuff, which... Feels...), tried to hold on to steam's previous functional UI for dear life, and now I'm currently blocking GoG from updating because 2.0 is the exact opposite of why I even bought games on gog in the first place.

I understand people who like these features; cool! And I'm not opposed to change, even for the sake of it. Shaking things up can be important. But - all of them feel like significant downgrades, to [i]me./i] And I think what sucks most is, I'd liked to tell myself that GoG was different.

Think I'll follow your advice, Timelady. Time to ditch the client. I'll miss it, though; it made checking my versions were up to date and getting the extras so easy....

Well, nothing good lasts.

Galaxy 2.0 continues to disappoint.

Have you noticed that there is no search bar in the shop? Like the most important feature to have in a shop?

So there you have it: another core functionality (the shop) Galaxy 2 is not able to provide. Absolutely marvelous.

But there is one, under "More offers" which is also bookmarked within the 2.0 client? I mean, the UI is a confusing mess all over Galaxy 2.0 but it did not take me any time at all to find the store search bar.

... you are correct, there it is.

It is still a complete UI fail. I would never expected the general search under "more offers".
It's not like there is a huge empty space right to the Basket icon. You know, where the search bar is located on the gog website....
I also just uninstalled GOG Galaxy from my computer. I am going to download the separate installers from the browser.

Fortunately, he still allows it. But it is a shame that the application has become is this heavy, invasive and completely useless crap.

We need an application that allows the download of the games, even that allows their purchase, but without it running in the background while you play.
