Pheace: Bleh, if there's something I don't care for it's real life trailers...
yeah, hoping for a new in-game trailer soon.
Huh. Interesting. Hope we get a in-game trailer soon, live action trailers just seem so... lame.

Were Thompsons still in use in '62? Do you think we'll get to shoot aliens with tommy guns?

maggotheart: As a fan of the original XCOM games, (UFO, TFTD and Apocalypse) I don't think any game released since then with the XCOM name was ever really an XCOM game, they just wanted to milk the name and the goodwill of the fans. I'm glad they aren't going to do that in this instance, but when are we going to get a proper XCOM sequel?
X-com Enemy unknown is as close as we'll get, Xenonaughts looks to be a great game in the spirit of x-com and will be closer than EU because it's nature. I mean it could happen if 2K bought the people that are making Xenonaughts and change the name to X-com but the chance of that is nil if not zero.

I thought XCOM Enemy Unknown was a fine game to be honest. It could use some more working out but hopefully possible expansions will do that.
Actually there is a decent isometric remake in progress:

I've tried it and it's pretty good.
I liked the live action trailer, I know some don't.. but to each their own. In many ways it goes to show that a combination of something akin to the X-Files and Mad Men could be interesting if produced by a competent team. And returning to the topic of the game I like how they stated that you can lose members of your team completely, and the game expects you to continue onward.
They learned from EA's mistake with the "Syndicate" reboot.

Also: Though it probably doesn't matter with most people here, Eu is pretty much one of the best console strategies control-wise, so getting to strategise on the big screen is a bonus for me.

And now there is a trailer with random glimpses for the game-engine:

I'm definitely interested to see how this turns out. There's alot of potential for a cool shooter set in the XCom universe, especially if they keep some of the elements they'd mentioned before the Internet lost its mind (weapons research and the like).

doccarnby: So I've seen mentions of this before, but here's an article with more information than I'd seen previously. I dunno, I was super excited for the XCOM FPS, for several reasons, but I would not at all mind a name change. I just wanna shoot aliens in a 1950's-'60's nightmare. The selectable missions and research is just a bonus.
It looks good... as for the name... it's just a name!

You say that to someone who didn't cry, scream and moan obsessively about those movies. I enjoyed them for what they were. Lots of action and a harmless bit of fun.

Yes, and I do agree as well. But I do think the reception would be a bit better if they hadn't used that name. Same with Back in Action by BitComposer, which I'm not going to credit as a JA game. A fun game, but it shouldn't be called JA.
So some sites have pre order available. Looking at the videos etc, is this actually a shooter?.
And steam is really pushing for pre-orders....

bonuses include Spec Ops and then the tier 3 is the complete XCOM collection (which include the latest xcom + current DLC)
