an accidental scientist article
http://accidentalscientist.com/2014/12/why-movies-look-weird-at-48fps-and-games-are-better-at-60fps-and-the-uncanny-valley.html?

i skimmed it mostly because i cant percieve the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps
but others might find it interesting

Extremely interesting article. If he's right (and I think he might well be) it could open up whole new areas of research for both games and movies. There might also be a good argument in there for decoupling game calculations and input interrupts from the frame rate. And for not making movies at 48 FPS. Having just seen the last of the Hobbit films in 3D HFR, I can testify that it looks like crap. Of course, the explanation is in the article. The additional detail the eye can glean at the higher frame rate allows us to see that the cliff face is not in fact a cliff face, but rather painted styrofoam.

i personally wouldnt watch the hobbit in 48 fps or 3D
i can process the 3D effect but it gives me a splitting headache and makes me motion sick
the stereoscopic 3D of the 3DS has the same effect on me

i dont know if 48 fps would look unnatural to me or not
in video games i dont notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps

24 fps on the other hand just obfusicates the razor sharp details and makes things look more "real"
which si why i prefer vhs versions of star trek tos for example
the fuzziness hides the poor production values but i digress

It means you are not alone,I sometimes look at screens and can't tell the difference.

Nice to learn Australianisms. :)

As for the article, sounds interesting, I wonder if it ever ends up helping in some concrete way. There's no real concrete conclusion that I could see. It boils down to: we need high low frame rate so that we see a lot of detail which wouldn't bother us. Or something like that.
Movies "look weird" at 48 FPS because people aren't used to it, and automatically write off something they aren't used to as bad. In my opinion.

As long as I look and see it clearly I'm greatful.
I don't think Pat Malone is Aussie....Not 100% on that..
In Oz we use a lot of slang..
