Just asking.

I would really love to buy - that game's been on my wishlist for quite some time -, but since I don't keep an eye on GOG sales often I might've missed the deal. If it hasn't been too long I might be able to snap one up rather cheap (well, slightly more expensive than sales....) somewhere.

Actually it was during the Battle of the Games. At the beginning and end of the sale, so almost 2 weeks ago.

Whoever you are behind that anonymous account, thank you sincerely.
There is definitely some psychic activity going on here...
Um... when was the last time a 2014 Honda Accord was on sale?

*crosses fingers*

(seriously, kind gifters, whom I was a "victim" of just yesterday, thank you! Your generosity makes the forums a very kind place to be.)

I'm curious about this HOMM III as well, of the current sale, what would you guys recommend as the first game to introduce myself to the series?

Also, was the last sale $3.99 as well? Or was it lower (for HOMM III)?

If I recall correctly, HoMM I, II and III were 75% off (~$2.49 each).
There are still Heroes Chronicles, they haven't been on sale for a while, I think.

Compared to Part 3:
#1 is very simplified, but I really enjoyed it.

#2 is a mixed bag. It's got far fewer units and not as much content, but you get a much more intimate appreciation of each of their nuanced abilities and how to use them.

#4 has some good qualities, but it's probably my least favorite for a number of reasons (repeating annoying music and your heroes' easy death are my biggest gripes).

#5 is the best newer game. It's quite solid and fun. I used to say #2 was my favorite, but probably #5 is now -- just for the better look.

#6 is a good game, but not as good as 5.

Everyone usually agrees that #3 is the best. And it's a stand-alone, learn-it-as-you-go kind of game. I personally started with 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5, then 6. But #3 is a great place to start. And you might not ever end.

If you like these games, grab the newer King's Bounty games.

HoMM III was cheaper at the last sale. $2.49. But I've never seen it that cheap before. Usually when it gets a discount, it's 50% off at Christmas or 75% off if you buy all of the HoMM games (which is sort of a waste IMHO -- you really only need one or two -- HoMM3 and HoMM5).

Have fun!

I've also been curious about the King's Bounty games, for some reason I've always overlooked strategy games, as I've always been into RPGs and FPS games.

Thanks for the info. I'll either check out HOMM III or HOMM V.

HOMMIII is probably the best in the series. IV kinda takes a step backwards, but it has it's own merits. V is worthwhile as well but doesn't do much different than III in the long run. However, if you are gauging your total interest in the series by a single entry, III would be the best to do so with.
