Since Disney is now an official brand here I guess it is legit to ask.

Considering all the edition of Star Wars around, both official and not-official, what is your favorite?

Of course this is an highly subjective, flame war worthy, topic. Try to be civil, this is one of the cases where the sentence: "everyone is entitled in his opinion" is correct.

Personally:

New Trilogy (I -> III): I like the TM2YC fanedits. TM2YC fixes the movies keeping them the same on the essence. I literaly felt I was seeing the same movie, but good. And for Ep.2 was quite a feat for me.

Old Trilogy (IV -> VI): Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition. It is not-official, but it is the original that for some reason Disney is not able to give us.
Never heard of these, so thanks for the mentions.
There is no new trilogy. Only three Star Wars movies were ever made.
- Grumpy old Star Wars fan

However, if I were to ever watch Revenge of the Sith again, I would watch the original version with the Backstroke of the West subtitles.

At very least four, how can you forget "Star Wars, the Holiday Special?"

You know, I tried to watch it once, I really tried. I think I lasted 10 minutes before switching it off.

Same here... :| However TM2YC made a fanedit of it too and the result is almost tolerable since he extracts the few fun parts (the fanedit is about 15 minutes long).
Bit confused. There are *non official versions*??

FWIW

Original trilogy 4,5,6

3

2

1 ---> worst of the lot.

Actually asked a female friend if she liked the Star Wars movies and what she found the best about them?. She described Jar jar Binks ..-_-

Think this way, the Star Wars fandom is huge. Between million of people loving Star Wars is a small subset of people with technical ability, time and will to improve them. At least from their point of view.

In general the art form is called "fanedit". The first references for fanedits are fanedit org and fanedit info.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition fanedit is quite peculiar, Harmy does not try to improve or change the movie. But he reconstructed the original theatrical version of StarWars IV-VI as seen at the time in Blu-Ray quality mainly for culturally historical and educational purposes.

Is all of that legal? Probably not, but it is tolerated if own the original.

About my enjoyment order, I would say: 5, 4, 3, 6, 1, 2... But between 5 and 6 is a fairly small difference; the 1 was bad, the 2 was terrible. Oh, yes... The Holiday Special is much much worse than Ep.2... pure evil.

Ditto, with ONE small exception: I liked the improved Death Star explosion at the end of Episode 4.

It does not actually answer the original question...

It means you like the original from the 1977? Or you like the 1997 versions better? Or perhaps the 2004 DVD version?

Old Trilogy Despecialized -> I agree, very cool project
New Trilogy TM2YC -> never seen, I'll try it thanks.

my enjoyment order is probably this, instead:
4>>5>3>6>2>1

How about I pick my own version.

Original Trilogy: My own special edition by splicing the best of the orginal with the best of the special editions. Bascially add only the CGI SpaceShips since they are the ones that look better than the original ships in the Death Star Battle.

Prequal Trilogy: Eliminate The Phantom Menace, And add the 2003 Clone Wars mini Series in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and BOOM we have a much better prequal trilogy.
I'm afraid I'm a sickler for the original trilogy. If I had to give an order it would be The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope and then Return of the Jedi. But all of them have parts I love and dislike.

After that EP1 was dire, EP2 took me several attempts to sit through the whole thing and I felt it was so bad I still have not watched EP3.

That said, I am excited about the new movie. Disney has done some good things with the franchises they've bought, so there is hope that it will be a good show, even considering the cross-guard hilted light saber.
Hey I don't want to post why I choose so, since I feel a little lazy right now so just quickly to the point:

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back > Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope > Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith > Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi > Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace > Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

I am not really sure about Episode VI since the are Ewok's in there. Than again: in newer saga there is Mister Jar Jar Binks. I think in II Episode he becomes senator. That and stupid talks like in stupid action movie makes it worst Star Wars movie for me. It is just not the same as it was before. Before you say something about Mister JJB also having presence in EP 1 bare in mind he was not a senator in there...

Hey man! Episode III is actually quite good, and does not feel so childish as previous. At least in my opinion. Other beings , including yourself might have other thought about this matter.
