Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Serious Sam, Ghost Recon, Far Cry 1, 2, and more 60% off!

Do you like shooting things? Most gamers do, which makes the mainstream media overly excited and judgemental far too often. But let's not go there. We know that gaming shootouts are kept well-within the boundaries of virtual worlds and are all about fun, challenge, and feeling bad-ass while you relax in front of your computer screen. So, putting aside all controversy around first-person perspective shooters, let's jump right into action with 21 games that go "pew pew pew", "ra-tatatah", and "boom" for your entertainment. This weekend, you can get them with an explosive 60% off discount in our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fps_legends_weekend_promo_221113]Spectacular FPS Shootout promo! Let's take a look on some of the titles, shall we?

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - War Chest takes you to the fronts of World War II and let's you take part in some of the allied forces most crucial operations. The game became famous for creating a believable and suggestive image of battle conditions with a real infantry soldier in the role of the game's hero. The War Chest edition includes the original campaign that will take you from German bases in Algiers, through the D-Day landing in Normandy, to the occupied France, and both Spearhead and Breakthrough expansions. Enlist now, for only $3.99!

Too much realism for your taste? You prefer fast-paced action with hordes of enemies coming for your bad-ass protagonist and absurdly overpowered weapons at his disposal to cut the baddies to little pieces? No problem! We've got you covered with Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Second Encounter, games that became famous exactly for the type of old-school gameplay you're looking for. Well, that and excellent epic level design. Only $ 2.39 each!

Far Cry is the game that changed the way people perceive video games, thanks to the astonishing CryENGINE. In terms of lifelike graphics, physics, advanced enemy AI, and sandbox style FPS-ing, there is "before Far Cry" and "after Far Cry". Far Cry 2 took the game realism to another level--fully destructible environment, wind, rain, day, and night that affect enemy AI, and a beautiful African setting. The game features a spectacular story presented in a huge single player campaign which takes form 40 to 70 hours to beat. Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition contains the full Far Cry 2 game, including all previously released patches and the Far Cry 2 Fortunes DLC with additional content like new weapons and vehicles. Pick both games for only $3.99 each.

That's just a small taste of all the hardcore FPS action you can get in our Spectacular FPS Shootout promo until Tuesday, November 26, at 4:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!
Shadow Warrior Classic is now on my virtual shelves.
Half of those games does not interest me and I own the rest.

Licurg: ...Postal 2 Complete... These^ are all must-buys. Everything else is a matter of taste .
avatar
undeadcow: What makes Postal 2 a must buy? I reluctantly passed on it during the insomnia sale because despite the appeal of an open world reviews indicated it was fairly short and the humor does look to my taste, am I overlooking something?
avatar
dal4fsu: Thinking about picking up Far Cry 1+2 and Unreal 2. Do you think they will be cheaper during the Christmas sale as I don't need them just yet since I won't be playing them anytime soon?
avatar
undeadcow: No, it's anyone's guess but I don't think prices will be much cheaper during the Winter Sale. In the Summer Sale EVERYTHING was 50% off (versus 60% here) with certain items bundled together for discounts at least 75%. The Summer bundles were great but none involved any first person shoots, and the chances Far Cry will go for >60% seem limited. However, the Far Cry games have been repeatedly on sale recently so maybe the developer/published is more aggressively discounting).
Cool, really appreciate the reply as I have been wanting to check out the Far Cry series for a while. I think I'll pick them up at this price and DRM-free!
I have one question regarding Unreal Gold. I have the original game on disk, and on my current computer it is nigh unplayable because any smoke, explosive, and projectile effects turn the game into a slide show. As anyone familiar with the game might know, this is very problematic. I can't even shoot the first weapon you get because it slows the game down so much.

So my question is this: Does the GOG version have this problem? I would think not, but I'd like to be sure. (Also, I am aware that this could simply be a problem on my end; I know game's can have weird problems like low frame rate on modern computers.)

I'm playing it on an i3, Geforcee 260 system, in Wine (linux) and it runs great at 2560x1440 with all visual settings maxed out, and using the high-resolution packs.
I just noticed something: Just a couple of weeks ago was a Ubisoft sale, and now, right afterwards (discounting the circumstantial Insomnia and Mac sales), there's an FPS sale. Back in May there was a Ubisoft sale followed by an FPS sale. Both of them featured a nearly similar set of games to get, the only differences being newly-added games being on the lists now and the discount increasing from 50% to 60%.

Are the weekly sales themes on GOG on some sort of rotation or something? Forgive me if this is an unorthodox question to ask, but it just strikes me as odd.

I don't try to make sense of things around here. I just go with the flow.

jdsiege: No. No, I won't. As much as I wish I could, I refuse to recommend Blood 2 to anyone running a modern PC. I gave up on a playthrough just this week due to frequent crashes to desktop due to the "Client MFC application has stopped Working." error. I made it about a third of the way through before I had couldn't take it anymore. It's a shame too, because it was fun while it lasted. :(

While you might be able to complete the game without ever seeing this error, I can't advise you to purchase it.
I'll give it a shot then. Thanks. +1

IAmSinistar: Hmm, only one I don't have that I am interested in is Far Cry 2. Still haven't gotten around to playing the first one yet...
Since you're the second person to mention this, I must say I don't get it. The only thing both games have in common are the brand name and they're FPSs. That's it. They don't share/continue a story, characters, or even approach to world structure. There's simply no need to play one over the other.

The first one is a regular FPS with large levels, the second and third are more open world sandbox-y FPS'.
Far Cry 2 is quite nice, although it's a very brown (Africa) world with respawning enemy checkpoints and an annoying malaria gimmick where you have to take a pill (and get new ones) every hour or so.
It's still nice to drive jeeps and boats around the decent sized world and do missions for the different factions to unlock new weapons and upgrades.

I like the sandbox world concept, as I quite enjoyed Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption. The incurable illness aspect sounds like it would pretty much ruin my enjoyment, though. I am not good with those kinds of persistent penalties in games, it detracts from my ability to focus on and enjoy the main elements.

It's not that bad, you get several attacks of blurry vision after 45 minutes or something and on the third attack you pass out and wake up in a clinic or church. What really bothers me about it is that it doesn't add anything to the game.
They should've just declared you cured after you take the pill and ignored that silly mechanic for the rest of the game.
They could even have made you contract the disease again if you jumped in stagnant water or something, but nope.
Personally I found the respawning checkpoints to be more annoying, I would've liked it if I could've killed everybody there and afterwards it would always be safe/empty.
I get it from a game standpoint, you know that it makes sure that you'll always have battles to fight. But personally I just find it tedious.
Still a decent game though.
Just one question about the Painkiller: Black Edition.

Is this the uncut or the censored version? The german version is heavily cut and censored, to the point where playing it is simply no fun anymore. Buying it on GOG would simply be pointless then - in Germany the cut version is already sold for like 1 €, since nobody wants to buy this abomination.
