Eador. Masters of the Broken World, Etherlords 1&2, Blitzkrieg Anthology 1&2, and more 50% off!

If USSR still existed we're pretty sure its economy could largely depend on game development. There are so many talented people in Russia and former Soviet republics, dedicated to creating complex and solid games, that if the Soviet Union still existed this part of industry could become huge--if only the communists in charge were actually interested in economic development. Let's play a little make believe: imagine a Soviet Empire built on the foundation of gamedev studios, producing top-quality strategy games. If it was preparing to take over the world, the first step would surely be a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/soviet_strategy_strike_260713]Soviet Strategy Strike. Today, we offer you a taste of the imaginary Soviet Strategic Total Warfare, with a 50% discount!

Eador. Masters of the Broken World is one of the biggest, toughest, and most extensive turn-based strategy games in history. It takes all the complexity you would expect from a 4X game (that is: eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate), adds some extra challenge, extends the gameworld beyond measure, and finishes off the mixture with some top-notch dreamy graphics. The game faced some issues upon its release, but ever since, the developers worked towards squishing all the bugs and implementing even more features. This is the first time you can get the game 50% off on GOG.com. At $9.99 this game quite probably the best value for your money, when it comes to hardcore turn-based strategic gameplay!

If fantasy isn't your thing, you can still get your share of turn-based goodness mixed with real-time gameplay in a captivating Sci-Fi setting. In Altar Interactive's UFO series you'll be commanding a squad of special force operatives facing alien menace in tactical combat. Drawing inspiration from Microprose original X-Com games, those titles deliver their very own variety of terrifying extra terrestrial threat. Witness the entire interplanetary conflict from the first days of the invasion to the final strike against the aliens in three gripping iterations. You can get UFO: Aftermath for only $2.99, while UFO: Aftershock, and the concluding UFO: Afterlight are available for only $3.99 each. Don't miss your chance to defend the Earth!

That's but a small sample of what game the full Soviet Strategy Strike delivers 50% off. Direct yourself to the promo page, for the full varied and robust offer! The promo lasts until Tuesday, July 30, at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

deonast: Well a while back I played King's Bounty - The Legend, haven't finished it but played for a few days and didn't notice any overheating. In that forum I see mention of NVIDIA and I was probably on the same ATI card I have at the moment.

haydenaurion: Hmmm, I guess I could keep an eye on the temps with HWMonitor while doing a test run. If it has the same problem, i'm only out $5.
What about Crossworlds/Armored Princess? Any known overheating issues with it?
I've played the first King's Bounty on two different laptops and never had a problem with overheating. Not saying it won't happen, but I've never experienced it if that helps :)

Oh and here's a weird tip --

My laptop starts to get really hot when I play Settlers 6. I just plugged in a small desk fan and made sure it blew on the vent of the laptop. Cooled it right down and, as long as I do that when I play it, my laptop doesn't overheat at all. I'm in Bangkok too, which is officially the world's hottest city, so you'll actually find a lot of Thai gamers play with fans trained onto their computers as the overall room temperature can be detrimental if you're not running air conditioning. Seems to work every time :)

Running a more demanding game on a laptop in Thailand without it overheating? Yeah, I think that's a good indicator that I don't have to worry about those games causing overheating issues. Many thanks. :)

LOL, yep, you'll probably be okay.

You don't actually realize how much the temperature of a room can affect a laptop or desktop for that matter, until you're in a climate this hot.

I lived in Texas for years (which is just as hot as Bangkok, but not for 12 months of the year like here), but always played with the air conditioning on.

Here in Bangkok, I've been here so long I'm used to the heat now, so even though I have air con on part of the time, I tend to have it turned off on a cooler day (lower than 98 degrees :), and I don't realize how hot it is until I can feel the laptop blowing out what seems to be scalding hot air. It's then time for the fan or the air con, before it blows up :)
Hey guys, If I decide to get a UFO game (as i like tactics games) and only one... Which of the three is considered the best?

haydenaurion: Was the overheating issue with the King's Bounty games described here ever fixed? I'd like to grab and play those games, but i'm not putting my PC at risk of overheating to do it.
Reading that thread and the links the issue seems to be unlimited frames. Turning on a frame limiter or vsync seems to help. I am gonna try it out later.
When will you release other GSC strategies Cossacks 2 and Alexander?

I personally find the second one (Aftershock) to be the best. It finds the sweet spot of customization and micromanagement that I liked. Aftermath has too little, Afterlight has too much.
On the other hand, Afterlight has quite a few more mods, but Aftermath is cheaper. No matter which one you choose, you should have an enjoyable game on your hands :)

Thanks mate. I reckon I'll pick up Aftershock and if I enjoy that enough I'll grab the other two in a future sale. :)

undeadcow: I have Star Wolves, Silent Storm, Eador: Genesis, and Cossacks Anthology in my basket. Trying to decide if there's any other essential titles I'm overlooking.
Pick up Perimeter, as it's a game with very original mechanics. Not gonna make anyone's Top10 list, but it's worth the price it's being sold at now.

Blitzkrieg Anthology is awesome, one of the best strategy games ever made.
I'm thinking about getting King's Bounty, but I'm wondering whether or not i should get both... Any suggestions?

As much as I love to give my friend here crap, he is DEAD ON here. I just bought these and am beyond loving them. I'm actually upset that I just only now found them. Just think of how much better my life would have been had I been playing them years ago.

You might still have both your balls =)))
Just wanted to say if you haven't bought Cossacks in the sale, you really should.

I grabbed it yesterday and have played about four hours so far -- wow, what an amazing game. And yes, if it keeps on being as awesome as this, I'm likely to play the purported 200 hours and some.

Sale ends tomorrow. Grab it while you can. One of the best 3 bucks I've ever spent.

I've yielded to the consensus and at the 11th hour have bought Cossacks and both Blitzkriegs. Threw Fantasy Wars in for good measure. Even if I don't get around to playing them for a while, it feels like a good deal. So thanks all for the valuable comments.
