Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam 1st,2nd, Unreal games, Blood series, and other action-packed shooters 50% off

This weekend we thought we might throw a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fps_weekend_promo_240513]FPS Flashbomb your way. Don't worry--we do that with no intention of injuring you. It's all fun and games after all. Shooting virtual guns at digital living things (and on-screen mechanical foes) is satisfying and entertaining. That's a fact no one can ignore. That's why the First Person-perspective Shooter genre (commonly abbreviated as FPS) has been popular ever since it began, and it looks like it's not going to lose its charm to gamers in the foreseeable future. With fast and action-filled gameplay these games offer, every second of talk is a second wasted, so let's get fraggin'!

So what's in the FPS Flashbomb, you might ask? There's a nice piece of the genre's history in the form of Catacombs Pack if you want too see how it all began. Then, witness how it evolved and got really bad-ass with Duke Nukem 3D Complete Edition, and how it kept on throwing one-liners with Serious Sam: The First Encounter and The Second Encounter. Witness how immersive things got with Unreal Gold, and how competitive the genre has become with Unreal Tournament 2004 ECE. Or maybe you just want to have some gory and politically incorrect fun? We've got you covered Shadow Warrior is here as well.

Enough talk, let's shoot somethin! Head out to the promo page, to see all of the great FPS games we offer 50% off until Tuesday, May 28 at 3:59AM GMT.

Smannesman: Yep, the guys from Hard Reset are working on it I think.
So far there's only a CGI trailer though.

Tarhiel: WHAAAT? How come I do not know about this? Oh, my goodness, you, sir, just made my day! :P
Gotta look for the trailer :)
Yup, and it's being developed in Poland, Warsaw too. A friend of mine does writing for that game :-) Plus it's going to be published by Devolver Digital, the same company that published Hotline Miami. How cool is that.

timppu: - Must not buy FPS games older than Doom, e.g. Wolf3D engine games. They simply aren't worth it anymore.
NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo.........!!!!!!!

damien: you just sold me Catacombs! Too bad it doesn't contain the original game: Catacomb
I thought it did...
Not sure if someone already mentioned:

GOG.com: Serious Sam 1,2
Serious Sam: First and Second Encounter, not Serious Sam 2. Serious Sam 2 is a different game which is not in GOG.

I guess this translates to "confirmed on GOG!!!" :))

You're 100% correct--this could be very misleading. It was only to save some precious space. You think 1st and 2nd are more clear?

You get my approval now. Even better if you actually released Serious Sam 2. :)

(albeit I recall playing some demo version a long time ago, and for some reason not liking it as much as the 1st/2nd Encounter games...)

Hmm, it would seem Sniper Elite is available for Mac also. Funny it was not especially well received here and yet Metacritic gave it 76, Gamespot 7.6 and nearly 2000 Gamespot users ranked it on average an 8.0 game.

I've yet to ever play any sniper game. I am tempted to make this the first one at some point.
It would have been real awesome if SWAT 3 were on this list.
And no Daikatana? :( aw maaan...I have been playing it until chap 2, and is more WAY PLAYABLE and funny that Blood 2 (I love it too).

Anyway..bad baaad Gog : ( I want to prepurchase Night of the Rabbit...don´t throw me Shadow warrior to da face D:

P.S Redneck Rampage neither? : ( xD
Someone sell me on Unreal. I was always under the impression is was 90% MP but all of a sudden I'm not so sure. For sure if it is mostly MP than I'm not interested but I'd like to hear about it from some of the fine folks in here that have actually played it. In addition if there are any other FPS you can compare these too I'd be grateful.

Thanks! :D

That reminds me. It would be very cool if SWAT 4 came to GOG at some point. I remember having a lot of fun with that one, including the multiplayer at the time.

Unreal Tournament is 90% MP, and a hell of a lot of fun on LAN parties. Not sure how well your tenants would react to a "Friday night is UT night" announcement, nor how would they feel about blowing you to pieces with a well placed rocket, but it would still be fun. Best to get UT2k4 if you do decide to host UT nights though.

No idea about Unreal, but as I recall it was a good looking shooter of its generation, whatever that means ;)

Well, hopefully you find this helpful for an overview of the game:

http://www.gamespot.com/unreal/reviews/unreal-review-2531736/

I've played some of it and have been meaning to go back to it as it was fun and it does look very good for its age too I think. Plus, it does offer a fun multiplayer mode with bots if you like that versus going online with it. I recall it having at least deathmatch. I'm not sure now if it had any other modes. The game is really all about the single player experience though, Unreal Gold I mean.

Unreal Tournament and UT2k4 are pure online shooters that do offer both progressive and roll your own bot matches which can be fun too but the core gameplay of those is fast paced mulitplayer FPS gaming.

Unreal 2 is basically old school FPS gameplay with a for the time, fresh coat of paint in terms of graphics. I've played a little of that too and it remains on the when I get around to it list. Here's a review of it:
