Stronghold Crusader HD, Empire Earth series, Space Colony, Evil Genius, and more of the fall's finest 60% off!

The evenings are getting longer and the summer sun is waning. All the signs are there: autumn is coming. It's only adequate then, that this weekend the prices on GOG.com will fall like golden leaves. Go ahead and take a look at our Autumn Assortment of 27 titles, all 60% off until Tuesday, September 9, at 3:59AM GMT. Let's take a peek at some of the titles!

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD both feature a finely balanced mixture of "castle sim" and a challenging real-time strategy game, set in the turbulent Middle Ages. Evil Genius gives you the chance to become an old-school Bond movie villain (only this time, the evil mastermind's plan to take over the world hangs mostly on you), plotting away in his secret island fortress. With plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor the game will give you a tour of all the fun spy thriller clichés. For a more hands on approach to problem solving you can always join the Commandos, a hand-picked group of the army's finest, on their daunting World War II missions. To succeed, your elite squad needs to follow a carefully developed plan, that plays to the strengths of individual soldiers and masterfully synchronizes their attacks.

Not enough? Then have a look at all the awesome games featured in our Autumn Assortment, all 60% off until Tuesday, September 9, at 3:59AM GMT.

If you browse the promo page carefully, there is one game there with a bit higher 66% discount. Constructor is unfortunately waving a (hopefully temporary) bye-bye to GOG.com, as the rights to the game are changing hands. This is your chance to get it for only $1.99 before we have to pull it off of our shelf.
Nothing for me again. Guess I'll prepare for the winter sale.
Hopefully by then there will be enough linux games.

Caladus: So as someone who actually doesn't have everything on this list (in fact I don't have anything on this promo list) what's recommended?

I'm familiar with some of the titles (such as Ground Control) but others I really haven't had a chance to play yet.

As far a genre likes go I'm pretty wide open on that one with a special love for RTS and TBS.
I really liked Stronghold back when it came out. I haven't played it lately though.

mrking58: Constructor got some good ideas. I think its a fun game, you build houses, make tenants, build bigger houses, make better tenants, make even bigger houses, send crazy chainsaw guy you someone else's garden, send mafia people to destroy their wood making place, then get better tenants and so on

IAmSinistar: Sounds like quirky fun. May go ahead and buy it directly then and save the giftable key for down the line. Thanks!

EDIT: And so done. :)
You will be sorry :)

Oh, I already am. ;)

You played it? Have you noticed that the computer is and will always be a million times better than you?

No, haven't gotten into it. Haven't even downloaded it yet, actually. But I know I will regret it. :D
Weren't all these same games just on sale a couple of weeks ago? Maybe it's just my imagination and I'm blurring the weekend sales together in my head.

My recommendations would be for Evil Genius (kind of sort of vaguely like Dungeon Keeper; the recent-ish Impire might be a more apt comparison, at least based on the demo for it) and Moonbase Commander (TBS). Commandos is pretty good too. The one I played (#2, I think) was real time with control over a squad, and you had to switch between people to perform various tasks while avoiding detection. I played Lords of Magic ages ago and liked it, but I'm not sure how well it holds up today (despite owning it here, I haven't installed and replayed it). As I recall, it was turn based for the map, real time (pausable?) for the battles (I usually just auto resolved).

I would recommend Imperial Glory a game that is very similar to Empire: Total War but uses a strategy map that looks similar to the tabletop game Risk on which you build improvements, make research, do diplomacy, try to get approval for you by building spy building or embassys and slowly converting foreign populations to your view. There is always one tactical map for one country on which you can play tactical battles when you attack enemies or you can just auto resolve but that is always risky if your generals don't have enough command stars. Also strategy map is turn based like in total war games.

Also for some medieval classical RTS buy Stronghold games. Those are the best of the castle simulation RTS genre.

Its probably cause this is one of the most repeated gogs sale lists till today only the name is every time different :)

BillyMaysFan59: EDIT: Also, is Mob Rule leaving as well?
Same question, though despite the same publisher it seems the answer is no. Maybe it's just an IP thing. Would like to know myself.

Seems odd, they're both in the same series...

That's something that got me wondering - if one gets Constructor now, but not Mob Rule, I assume that the "complete series" 10% discount wouldn't apply anymore.

Matruchus: Lords of the Realm 3 is RTS I can assure you that. You have a strategic map with realtime building and unit movement and tactical map with real time battles. Only tactical map has bad pathfinding so I just usually use auto resolve.
How does LOTR3 compare to LOTR 2 / LOTR1? While I have them I still have yet to play either 1 or 2, and am trying to recall where I read that 3 was the pits compared to 2.

I'm pretty sure everyone agreed that 3 was far inferior to 2. I can't give my opinion because I've only played 2 (despite the fact I own all of them). LotR 2 is definitely a great game and I'd highly recommend it. I just haven't been able to bring myself to play 3 because it sounds like the flaws would drive me crazy.
Nothing for me here. Perhaps that's for the best :\

If I might hazard an educated guess...

GoG likely has a distribution deal with the publisher Merge Games and not directly with the developer System 3. Now seeing it is only Constructor and not Mob Rule vanishing - my guess is that System 3 is consolidating the rights to distribute for Constructor. Now why would they do this? A mobile Constructor remake was announced in 2013. This could very well be in preparation of an imminent release of the Constructor remake.

There could be a dozen reasons for wanting the older game pulled from circulation ranging from fear of competition with their new product to preventing possible market confusion to even planning a release of the remake for pc and distributing the old game for free to anyone who buys the new one.

I'm really hoping for that last one (hey, I never said the optimistic side of me was realistic :p).
