Hotline Miami, classic Oddworld games, Carmageddon Max Pack, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), and more 50% off

GOG.com catalog is about 550 games large and the first word that comes to mind when you look at it is variety. We have all sorts of games, old and new, coming from many different genres, and there's plenty of choice whatever your taste in games might be. Our weekend promos, however, tend to focus on a single theme, genre, or publisher. This time we thought we should arrange for a different kind of a promo. A promo that would reflect the diversity of GOG.com catalog and the feeling of having many different options it comes with. That's why in our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/action_weekend_promo_260413]Assorted April Games promo you can get 15 titles of various genres and age, with a 50% off discount. Let's take a quick look at some of them, shall we?

Hotline Miami, from Jonatan ''Cactus'' Söderström and Dennis Wedin, or Dennaton Games as the team calls themselves, is one of the most prominent indie games of 2012. Exploring the idea of violence and free will it delivers great and dynamic 1980s-themed gameplay full of fast-paced combat, excellent music and frantic tactics. The game received high praise from critics and gamers alike, and you can get it for only $4.99 this weekend.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus are some of the most brilliant and inspired puzzle-platformers in history. The games follow the daring deeds of Abe, a Mudokon slave that challenges the villainous Glukkon establishment and rescues his brethren from becoming mudo-burgers. With mind-bending puzzles, a pinch of crude humor, and incredibly vivid alien setting, the Oddworld games are a remarkable experience. Only $2.99 each!

Carmageddon Max Pack is a racing game that isn't really about racing. It's more about murder and destruction. All of the cars are machines of mayhem and all of the drivers are raving maniacs. Getting first to the finish line is one of the options, but normally you will probably win most of the races by brutally eliminating the competition. One of the most controversial games in history can be yours for only $4.99 this weekend.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) is a 3D action-adventure game with an original, shocking, and mysterious plot and many qualities of an interactive movie, full of unexpected twists and unnerving events. This unique story comes from Quantic Dream--the team of people who brought us Omikron: The Nomad Soul, and--much later--Heavy Rain. This one-of-a-kind experience can become a part of your GOG.com collection for only $2.99.

But that's only a third of the Assorted April Games that you can get 50% off this weekend. Be sure to check the promo page to see the whole selection. The offer lasts until Tuesday, April 30, at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!
How's Indigo Prophecy? Reading the reviews, it seems to have a bad ending, but is it worth it for the gameplay. I've never really played any adventure-type games before, and was wondering if it might be a good intro to genre.

The game's story is quite good, but you will have to be pretty nimble wit the controller to beat it. It is a console-type game, even though it does have keyboard support.

So it wouldn't play well with keyboard and mouse, then?
Time to pick up Dangerous Dave. $3 is dirt cheap.
Is Hotline Miami worth the buy? It looks like a decent game that belongs to a bargain bin. I might buy if it was 1.99$ :)

imho. not really, no. I've tried it, but it's a pita for me. Then again, I'm generally not that good at games that require quick reflexes rather than grey/ white matter. As such, my opinion is quite subjective.

Yes (personal opinion).
The game looks simple and has an easy play style, but trust those who have played the game, it takes forever to master.
So long as you have a good amount of patience and enjoy a very fast paced game then Hotline Miami is worth the full asking price.
The levels are quite short for the most part and there are checkpoints during missions. So the reloading after you are killed is quite quick. Match this with a fantastic soundtrack and the game is a modern masterpiece of gaming.

I bought this a while back and still have not completed the game.
I usually detest platformer games but just have to say Oddworld: Abbe's Oddysee is one of the best games I've ever played -- platformer or otherwise.

I'm not buying it on GOG as I already own it on disc, but just a recommendation if you're wondering what to buy. Abbe's Exodus is awesome too!

I completed it using keyboard and mouse and it wasn't a big deal. But if you have a good controller it will definitely be the better choice (mainly because of the many QTE-sequences).

IMO the gameplay is not what makes it worth playing either, as a big part of it comes down to Quick Time Events unrelated to the story (Simon says, quickly press the button now). It's worth checking out because of its great cinematic storytelling and the innovative implementation of choices, which gives it a certain replayability or at least the illusion that you are free to react in whatever way you most see fit and that your actions have an impact (an illusion that is then shattered by the QTE sequences again, sadly). I've put up with the annoying parts of the gameplay for a while because the storytelling is so gripping and those parts where you're in full control of your character are fun. Anyway, I don't think it's a good introduction to the adventure genre at all, as it's rather atypical, a beast of its own. Worth checking out despite its flaws but not to be confused as an example for your average adventure game (I haven't played anything like it - in both the good and the bad sense of the expression).

It's playable with keyboard and mouse, I don't think the controls per se are the issue here, it's just a matter of accustoming (although I've found that the mouse movements are easier to pull off with my netbook's touchpad).
