Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Zeus, Pharaoh, Age of Wonders, and other strategies 50% off!

We know that you like to be in charge. We know that you like that feeling of power and the constant pressure of one life-and-death decision after another. Whether you are in the battlefield, commanding your troops, in a warlord's tent deciding the life and death of your subjects, or in a city hall, placing miniature buildings on a map--you flourish. Leadership is your element. Knowing that, we prepared a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/strategy_weekend_promo_080313]Superb Strategy Promo to cater to your tastes. Or rather: to nourish that ever-present hunger for power that you have. Let's take a look at two of the games on this weekend's offer, shall we?

Many people consider Heroes of Might and Magic 3 to be the best instalment in the greatest fantasy turn-based strategy series. The conquest of Erathia is still taking place on thousands of computers worldwide, as the game remains universally popular among strategy gamers. Billions of hours worth of collective playtime were, and still are, being put in this title, both in single-player campaigns and multi-player struggles. We offer you the Complete Edition of the game, containing the Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death expansions, for only $4.99.

If you enjoy the turn-based mechanics of the HoMM series, but you would like to immerse yourself even deeper in a complex and extensive gameworld, don't miss Eador: Genesis. When we originally released this Russian masterpiece, we said that the single-player campaign can take up to 200 hours to beat. Our colleague from the support team, who knows the game by heart came asking later how did we come up with such a number. We told him, that 200 hours is the expected playtime stated by the developer. "Must have been a speedrun"--our friend commented, and we believe him (GOG.com support is known to be trustworthy, afterall). So brace yourselves--for only $2.99 you'll get more than 200 hours of playtime.

But that's only scratching the surface of our weekend promo! There are many more games to challenge your leadership skills on the Superb Strategy promo page, so go ahead and check them out now! The offer lasts until Tuesday, March 12, at 4:59AM GMT.

As usual, below you'll find a new episode of This Week on GOG, a short video guide to recent events, promos, and other happenings on the site. By the way, if you haven't already, you might want to follow the GOG.com channel on Youtube, so you won't miss our shows, specials, and exclusive trailers.

Pheace: snip
And anyone who doesn't own King of Dragon Pass, buy it. This is the one game that I actually bothered to send an email to the developer whether they'd release a digital version on GOG or elsewhere, simply because I felt the game deserved more attention. (sadly IOS was the only thing in the works at the time xD)

Zoltan999: Agreed, I've whiled away many an hour on this game. definitely worth picking up for those on the fence...especially at this price :D

Senteria: I've been a diehard fan of AoW 1 but never played Shadow Magic or Wizard's Throne. Apparantly nobody seems to care about Wizard's throne. Shadow magic is said to be the third installment/sequil but then I hear that Shadow Magic is a mod on Wizard's Throne? I'm thinking of getting one of the two.

Zoltan999: Haven't played WT, but Shadow Magic was a LOT of fun...definitely worth picking up
I just finished my Play by email game in Age of Wonders 1. Took more than a year here on GOG. I won though!
But yeah, I just don't want to miss anything of the story. I mean I don't like to miss important storyline between those games.

Get SM. Nobody plays Wizard Throne PBEM.
In story department you will only miss who is Merlin and it's not big deal, otherwise you can easily play WT later to fill your gaps in knowledge. There is no "important storyline" among all three games. Well, there is stronger between AoW 1 and Wizard Throne, but there is minimal between Wizard Throne and Shadow Magic and almost none between SM and AoW 1.

Hey, cool...good for you! I've thought about joining, playing one of those, but I just know with my schedule, I would be a liability, and sometimes not be able to take my turn in a timely fashion (probably often)...and that just wouldn't be fair to others. Anyway, wish I could fill you in more about WT, but as I said, haven't played it, I just loved SM. I'm like you though, as a general rule, I prefer to play series from beginning to end. In this case, SM just happened to be the first one I picked up and played, and just haven't had a chance to go back to the others yet (don't own WT either, lol). At these prices though, you might as well pick them both up, really can't go wrong there :)

^ Ahh, there you go...Vitek with some insight

I don't have a big budget and I think I like to buy one at a time. I'll wait for the next promo in a year or around christmas to get the other one. Been spending too much time on games lately anyway and I'm not in a hurry. Also I control my paypal account and I don't put in more money than I can miss. It would take days to top up the paypal balance by then the promo is over.

What an awesome collection! I think I'll get Age of Wonders.

Or Eador.

Or Stronghold.

Hm, no... decisions, decisions.

AoW it is.

Thanks a bunch, GOG!

gandalf.nho: Thinking in get Eador: Genesis, how is the difficulty?

G-Doc: The game is said to be tough as nails. Russian nails, mind you.
In Soviet Russia, nails hammer you?

Check your PM, now you can get the other ;-)...have fun! Gotta run...
Ugh I didn't wanna spend more money only a day after buying Blade of Darkness, which is hard to believe how awesome it's held up over the years.

But I can't pass up Eador: Genesis & King of Dragon Pass on sale.

You read my mind on those two.
This is one of the best weekend promos in recent memory. For people with similar tastes as myself. There are only a couple I don't own. May go ahead and pick them up. MoM would have been a nice addition for folks that don't have it. Other than that I can't fault this selection of titles.
Love it, grab it. Thank you GOG.

How long does it take to play a game via e-mail? Like, months?

(Stealth edit: just saw another of your replies where you said it took a year! Holy Moley!)

Might fit in nicely with my multitude of daily tasks, though. I really like async on-line games on my iPhone. Take my turn when it's convenient, and my opponents do the same. Is AoW PBEM similar?

Never clicked the check-out button so quickly (I was only missing Eador and King of Dragon Pass mind you, but still).

Anyway, I totally recommend each and every game in this pack. Fantastic promo.

Vitek: because it is hard. Plus you can't load the game (unless you back up the save folder) and there are maps you must win, otherwise you lose whole campaign and potentially tens of hours.
Well, that settles it. I'll defenitely wait for the remake. :P
