Dark Omen is fun, but SotHR is so much better IMO.

The quest system, music, charaters, general feel is just way cooler. Dark Omen is prettier, being 3 years younger and some of the unit controls/tactics are also better, but is doesn't make up for the pure fun of the first one.

The way you get magic items (looking for the twinkle after every map) is way cooler, the interface has more detail, and you don't have endless spoken dialogue that you can't skip through.

Anywho, both games have only a few hundred votes on the wishlist, so we gotta get voting if we wanna see either one in a nice shiny new format: http://www.gog.com/en/wanted

You can actually get SotHR as abandonware online, but pretty tricky to get it working satisfactorily.

It's not that bad... few file operations + registry key import and it runs fine (on my XP 32bit). Strangely – on Win98SE it runs noticeably faster than on XP (the same hardware).
Yes - old Warhammer games would be a great addition to gog’s catalog – but it’s EA + Games Workshop so chances are slim.

EA still publish Warhammer games, notably Warhammer Online so they arent that slim. Just need EA to sign up really. The only tricky one would be Mark of Chaos which was published by Namco Bandai.

I like optimistic types :-) After EA joins gog – I will have to buy my wife an expensive gift… to prepare her … on my updated wishlist :-)
Truly.. Mark of Chaos is not a bad game but.. you can’t compare it to SotHR, Dark Omen, Space Hulk 2, Chaos Gate or Rites of War….
And what about 40k games? Some of the were also great
Actually I voted for Dark Omen a few days ago, although I recall it to be pretty damn hard.
I think what made it so hard to me was that my units kept taking casualties and I couldn't find a way to replenish them after a battle or it was too expensive or something like that. I believe I never made it through the first half of the game.

About W40k: I would like to see Final Liberation, Chaos Gate and Rites of War added to the portfolio. Thanks for reminding me - gotta vote...

Rites of war... I was a little disppointed with that one, anyway, the video intro was great.

If it’s Dark Omen you speak of – it had to be gold shortage. DO was definitely easier than Shadow of the Horned Rat – because of 2 reasons: after the battle you could always reinforce your units if you had enough gold and you could swap magic items among units. In both games it was relatively easy to win the battle but much harder to win it with acceptable loses. You should always do a little calculation if pay-off will cover expenses you have to make for reinforcements. If not – you have to repeat that battle :-) In SofHR – except for the gold you had to be in a good place to reinforce specific units – I remember having LOTS of gold but places I visited didn’t offer me reinforcements I needed.
Also I found gameplay in Shadow of the Horned Rat closer attached to Warhammer Fantasy Battle – in manual there were lots of detailed units statistic, tables, numbers, bonuses for ranks, rules of shooting crossbows and archer units etc. I missed all that in DO.
