[edit] LOL I thought of a contest they could have 'how long you can wiggle a joystick for' and this reminds me of an old C16 game called olympiad, it had a 10,000M race, and good god, my hand nearly fell off, that race took a long long long time to complete.

Darts has been suggested in the past for Olympic recognition, and it looks like there's a chance it might get in eventually (article). If it does, then I think having PC games at the Olympic games is quite reasonable.

I have to say I'm amazed that nobody is making big bucks out of e-sports yet. I mean big bucks like in popular sports. There are enough idiots who fight over who's the best [insert athlete/team here] and spend big money to see the [insulting adjective] team/sportsman. I guess they could make e-sports sell. I can't wait to see discussions about the best double clicker.

They should rather throw out the asian martial arts and put in longsword fencing, dagger, etc... instead, this whole thing was supposed to be European originally, I was shocked already when they seriously thought about removing the most likely oldest of the original disciplines (wrestling).

It's a worldwide celebration of sports, and it would be quite contrary to that intention to make it more European.

eSports is getting bigger than the Olympics. Don't offend eSports by wishing it to be in the Olympics.

The origin doesn't matter. It's like you're making a worldwide music festival and saying "everyone can play as long as they're playing classical music."

So? This is quite common.
There could be a comparable event for Asian sports too (although I don't know of a similar tradition) and I would be fine with a really international one too, but having mostly Asian martial arts in a traditionally European event is just wrong.
When they wanted to remove wrestling while keeping judo it was clear that it's yet another example of European traditions vanishing more and more because they don't really give a damn about culture while others do.
It's my right to see this as rather sad.

I almost broke two joysticks playing games like Summer Games 1-2, Winter Games, World Games and Track & Fields on my mighty C64! :-)

Competition on high level makes everything more serious than it needs to be and ruins the fun so I hope it doesn't happen. Video games are too much associated with eSports as it is, I rather see it going in a very different direction like experimental art or utilized in education on a global scale.
