-MMO only,
-overplaying the retro or "old school" graphics angle,
-isometric camera,
-"emotional", "heart-wrenching" storyline; anything which needs to emphasize how emotional it's going to be, is maudlin or kitschy at best.

But I judge mostly on gameplay videos anyways, so descriptions are relatively less important to me.
DLCs - Make a proper expansion pack damn-it
FTP - Low quality games with only a few exceptions I can think of
Graphics prioritized over gameplay, and I aim this at games that advertised pixel art and high definition.
FP whatever for similar reason as another guy pointed out. I like to see what's around me
Multiplayer taking the primary seat
Online Anything
Steam Required
Hard Core gaming - I play games for fun not to work
Style over substance

javier0889: back in my day, a proper expansion would mean entire new campaigns, new items/units, more branches to the tech tree in the case os strategy games, etc.
I can assure you that that's just rose-tinted glasses. What you describe is still there, it's just called DLC - all you have to do is to differenciate between bad and good DLC and only buy the good ones. Kind of like you've had to differenciate between good and bad expansions... Just off top of my head, Dishonored DLC adds a completely new campaign, played from a perspective of a completely new character with very different set of powers. There's loads of DLC like that.

What do these mean?
Basically any game without a good story, unfortunately you mostly cannot tell this before actually playing it.
I do not care about graphics at all, but a game should have some kind of involving atmosphere in its design, so anything "normal" does not look very appealing to me.
Finally, I do not like F2P games. I want to pay for a game once, not a hundred times only to have some progress.
The two things which turn me off almost immediately would have to be "real-time strategy" and "insane difficulty" (or some other variant of hard). In both cases that to me equates to nigh endless frustration and therefore to be avoided if I want to have fun.

There are some exceptions but typically RTS games are very short on the strategy and very big on the real time which mostly just means clickfest or keyboard shortcut spam as fast as you possibly can and if you do it well enough you can beat the AI! So the game devolves to can you navigate the interface faster than the AI's built in slowness. There are a few gems where strategy actually comes into play and a few where it can be fun to use the game as a base defense and if designed well enough will allow you to more efficiently use whatever resource or currency there happens to be and therefore win, though, those can get boring since they are usually multiple hours on a single map just waiting for an AI to exhaust itself.

Again there are exceptions to insane difficulty also but generally means you will fail 1000's of times and because of that you should feel accomplished when you don't die! I personally like a little more thought in my gameplay than "oops I hit that button 0.001 seconds early this time, last time I was 0.002 seconds off so I'm improving!"
Say the words Indie Puzzle Platformer here on GOG and you'll see people wincing and screaming "ANOTHER ONE?!". Admittedly, I become very suspicious of those games too, because while I like Platformers, I rarely like the puzzle variety (The Oddworld games are an exception).

Personally, whenever I hear Point and Click Adventure is the time to move away from a game, especially if it is an Indie one. Notable exceptions have been The Dig, Monkey Island and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

Oh, and my pet favourite? Innovative...

It's ironic how many here on Good Old Games revile "retro" and "old school".

But, but it's not "Good ol' Games" no more. =)

Me, I'm still working on getting the classics I missed over the years

QTE
Local/Online oriented: Not everyone has friends in real life, and not everyone has friends online. Build for both. This applies egregiously to Nintendo who can't even get local co-op right. I don't want the game focused or centered around it, I just want it dash standard.
Things occurring without the control of the player such as a random chance of fleeing an encounter. (Chicken Knife and cursed items don't count.)
Stealth in a game clearly not made for stealth. This means you, any RPG ever. You've got a weapon, just knock em' cold! Trust me, the world will forgive you, considering what happens if you fail to save it.
"steep learning curve" - usually in the context of "It's a fun game once you learn how to play it, but it has a steep learning curve".

I hear - "If you devote much of your life to learning how to play it might be fun in the distant future."

BlueMooner: What do these mean?
QTEs are Quick Time Events. Dragons Lair is an extreme example. Fahrenheit and Shen Mue also featured this mechanic in their gameplay to ridiculous degrees.

The second one is done often on Nintendo-licensed titles, especially when localizing games from Japan where they're not a bunch of uptight prudes about showing cleavage. An example of a PC game which did this, though, was Bioshock Infinite. The femnazis on twitter and tumblr and their hack writer allies at Kotaku raised a big stink about whatsherface being "sexualized", so the developers made her tits smaller and covered her up more in the final game.
-Anything with "cinematic" in it.
-Anything to do with zombies.
-"Indie platformer with a retro art style"
-Any sort of multiplayer focus, be it co-op or competitive.

jamyskis: Um...wut?

Sachys: Those games that are built for co-op and multiplayer only yet for some reason have included a single player mode / campaign and a few brief hints of a story, making the single player campaing useless and misleading!

Not mentioning any names...

BORDERLANDS!
Ummmm I played BL1 and 2 and while co op might be fun, both are still primarily single player experiences....
