Just throwing an idea around that i thought would be helpful for those with craptastic connections.

I would like to see the larger downloads split into more, smaller parts. Now, we already have something like that for a few games, Far Cry and Two Worlds for example, but even then part of those downloads consist of files around the 2 GB mark.

It's a pain to have to redownload such a huge file time and time again just because it gets corrupted due to an unstable Internet connection. It would be far more convenient to split the download in for example 200 Mb chunks, that way if one of the chunks is corrupted the amount to redownload would be smaller, and the time to download quicker too.

This would also have the advantage of taking some of the load off Gog's servers since it wouldn't be necessary to redownload everything again. We know there are enough problems with servers overloading anytime there's a big release.

Then there's the Downloader itself, that would seem an ideal solution to the problems
above, but the catch is, the Downloader itself doesn't work. A lot of people in this forums have complained time and time again that they have never managed to get it working, that the queue system is not working, that resuming a download is a waste of time since the files will become corrupted and so on. Just look a the "GOG Downloader" thread, it's almost 20 pages long.

To be fair, there is a workaround to get the downloads going using programs like DTA Manager and the like, but again, it doesn't work for everyone and even when it does there is still a number of huge corrupted files that need to be redownloaded.

What i'm trying to say is: would it be possible to split larger downloads into smaller, more numerous pieces, or at least fixing/rewritting the Downloader. Perhaps even allowing costumers to use their own download managers to try and, you know, get their stuff?

Comments? Suggestions?
More and faster fileservers and resumable transfers via the GOG downloader (if this isn't already the case).
And before that, more games, better deals and better Windows 7 compatibility. ;)
