Today, you can start killing monsters.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the first two chapters in the gritty RPG series from CD Projekt RED, following the morally ambiguous deeds of the white-haired monster slayer Geralt of Rivia, are available 75% off on GOG.com. That's $2.49 for the first and $4.99 for the second title, until Tuesday, August 27, at 3:59AM GMT (Promo extended!).

Geralt is a wandering monster slayer from the order of the witchers. In a perfect world he would travel from one village to another, killing ghouls and wyverns for a hefty pouch of gold, celebrating his victories with fine mead and ale at local inns, and then waking up each morning (or noon) next to the woman he loves. But the world of The Witcher is far from perfect -- teeming with hatred, dark magic, cruelty, prejudice, dirty politics and outright stupidity. But all the things that make Geralt’s life harder contribute to one of the most vivid, believable game worlds in cRPG history.

The third game in CD Projekt RED hit series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming DRM-free to GOG.com in 2014. Have you seen its recently released CGI trailer titled "Killing Monsters"? Take a moment to immerse yourself in the atmospheric vision of Geralt's grim and unwelcoming world.

While you wait for the third, why don't you give a shot at the first two? Both games are third-person perspective action-RPGs highly praised for their rich environment, mature story, memorable and lifelike characters, and succulent dialogue. Get both The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for only $7.48, or separately at $2.49 and $4.99 accordingly. That's whole 75% off, until Tuesday, August 27, at 3:59AM GMT (Promo extended!).

MasodikTiasma: At least it gives me time to upgrade my PC.
Same here. When The Witcher 3 comes out, I definitely want to be able to play it on maximum settings. In about seven months I'll be able to afford a significant PC upgrade.

deonast: Well already own the first two and will get the third. Now this third time around will I need to set my location to another country and use a VPN to appear from another country to avoid the Australian version or will our new and still not always good enough 18+ rating for games get Australian's across the line.

ForgetDeny: Being from NZ (and therefore subjected to Australia's internet traffic laws by default due to a shared pipeline, damn them!) I would also like to know this. Still haven't been able to play Risen because of Australia's laws, even though it isn't prohibited here!
I think in the case of the Witcher 2 it was because Namco Bandi the distributor for both Australia and New Zealand wanted a cut version so they didn't have to hassle with Australian censors. Not wanting to press two versions they just gave you ours. GOG was then forced to via nature of agreements (and a little legal action on their parent group) give us the censored. I'd originally read the info where it would be the same version everywhere. Missed the update that it would be censored for Australia and so pre-ordered before I realised I could have changed my location and got the international version (later via court issues purchasing international version became geo locked as well).

Is that the first Risen, as I saw Risen 2 in JB hi fi the other day. I actually picked up both in a recent humble bundle deal for steam. I assume it is an international version, though not installed them yet.

so i bought it finally. but it give me this thing: QRQ5SS7ZW6DS4SGA how do i use it?
I would love to buy these two games in bulk to give away to fellow Linux users but alas, these two games do not exist natively on Linux. Please release them for LInux soon so that I can quench my purchasing needs. Going by my planned budget, I am willing to make use of this deal 67 times for a giveaway to Linux users.
Nice promo. But not for my HW. Maybe it`s time to upgrade:)

looks like your CD key, mine was 20 characters so I'm hoping that you took a few characters out otherwise someone out there on the net might be getting an extra key :)

Used for online play only, not sure now how you activated it, assume in game via a menu or something. I only ever installed the game briefly as my system just doesn't have the power for Witcher 2, will definitely upgrade before wticher 3 comes out.

Oh my mistake, I missed the subtle GOG gift code giving there. Maybe I should go to bed already. Been a long week.

I'm fairly certain I managed to get the international version of Witcher 2 without having to change any settings (it sure doesn't seem toned down anyway - possibly the most brutal game I've encountered if you make the right/wrong choices). So hopefully they follow suit with Witcher 3.
Yeah, Risen1 - I picked up Risen 2 on the last big Steam sale, on the hope that it'll be at least as good as Gothic 3. I also understand that the narratives of the two games don't really follow on from each other too much. So far I'm finding the game to be roughly equivalent to Two Worlds2 in quality. I really can't wait for a Witcher open world, maybe I'll finally meet a game that's more engaging than Morrowind.

Did you get your copy off GOG for Witcher 2, mine in my Account lists shows up as "Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings, The (AU) " in the title area. Apparently it wasn't the violence that the censors didn't like, I think it was mainly one part in the game where sex was a reward, I think if you did certain things right a woman in the game would offer sex as a form of payment.

Obviously in the real world no one ever offers sex as a reward.
I bought both, I hope they are as good as you say. :)
Great game, great promo!

Yeah, I pre-ordered through GoG. And indeed that does happen in the game. Potentially in multiple places.

Apparently this uncensored patch in this thread works for the enhanced Editon of Wticher 2
http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_2/australian_users_click_here_un_edit_patch/page4

I've not tried it just bought the game again through a second US account (with VPN so that I look like I'm US for the Geo-IP checks) so I now have the international version. I figure you never know if a game update might break the patches, so at least I'll always have the latest international version. Cheaper since sale is on.

I did a little experiment on steam as I heard they also give us the censored version. Even through a VPN and changing your location details and address you can't actually proceed through the payments as it checks your credit card / paypal location against your account. If you changed things to match I'm pretty sure you'd end up with the Australian version again.

So best bet is the uncensored patch and try with your game for free, failing that if you want to spend money, open a second account set to another country and try a VPN service, www.proxpn.com is a free to try, it will show you as being from Dallas on a free account. Buy the game. Then download via your normal connection (not through the VPN, as it is too slow on a free account).

I might even consider buying a proxpn account as they have UK end points, might be useful for some overseas things (provided UK sites don't already know proxpn's addresses as a proxy service).

Ahh, if only everything was uncensored and less restricted to start with life would be simple and people could shop happily.
Just a question: I am just getting into pc gaming after being a console gamer my whole life. I have heard nothing but good things about the Witcher series and would like to pick them up but am unsure if my hardware can handle it. I got a new desktop pc about a year and a half ago that has a Radeon 6670, Core i7 2600 and 12 gigs of RAM. I want to play in 1080p with better visuals than my 360/PS3. Is my rig sufficient or will I need an upgrade? I also travel a lot and want to game on the go. My laptop is pretty old (4 years) but has a Core2Duo 2.53Ghz, Radeon 4670 1GB and 4 GB of RAM. I know I need to get something more up to date, but i'd like to wait till next year. What kind of settings do you think I could get out of it until then. Coming from consoles I'm perfectly content with 30 fps. Thanks for any advice.
