Cool games all of them but think etherlords 2 is the best.
if you liked Jagged Alliance 2, you will probably like Silent Storm too... at least I did and it's one of the minority purchases I made here on GOG I don't regret

If one liked JA2, one will probably like SS2 right up to the point when PKs get introduced. Then one will tell the game to go fuck itself.

As for Sentinels, I remember the game getting ludicrously hard ridiculously fast. That was not a pleasant experience.

There's a mod to remove/change that, right?

i didnt like the PKs either, but as for the original silent storm it's not necessary to use them in order to finish the game, you can use those green laser guns to easily kill people inside

cant speak much of the sentinels expansion, since I've finished only first two missions

The first time I saw the lasers, they were on the same side of battlefield as a ton of angry enemy PKs.
Gotta love those cards.

Panzerklein. Late-game desel-powered armour suit with automatic cannons and rocket launchers as the more tame weapons. If normal infantry hides from that thing in a building, you don't wait for them to pop up in the windows - you simply gun down the entire wall. Problem is, PKs make missions trivial when you have more of them, than the enemy, and they turn missions into nightmare when it's the other way round. The only ways to take them down are loads of explosives or a lucky sniper shot to the pilot's face.
It's like they played JA2 and thought, "Hey, I wish those tanks moved"

Hear hear,

I wasn't a fan of the first installment, but EL2 did away with all the clunky luggage like town sieging and multiple heroes to control. EL2 has a fun campaign mode that focuses on a specific hero's story instead, which actually makes you feel a bit more involved with the factions and the heroes you control. The deck building is fun too. And the voice acting is much better.

(also hint: always max out suppression. It'll save you from quite a few headaches while playing this game.)

Oh, that sounds stupid.
I think I'll skip this game. It looks bit weird.

Thanks for the answer.
Soundly recommend the Etherlords games, they are a lot of fun. I never really got into the card-combat games, but these are very enjoyable. If you can only get one, the second is better balanced. The first makes you feel like you have to push on too quickly, missing a lot of side events and often not being beefed up enough to stop the enemy in time.

i remember the mission :), only way through was a tiny passage with heavy artilery thingy and PKs behind, that was one of the hardest parts of the game and required multiple save/loads

I made a earlier post about this sale and TBS games but didn't get a reply. SS is out because it's obvious from reading this thread it's more effort than I'm game for, but Etherlords still looks very interesting to me. Never been a TBS person but your post is leaning me toward getting it anyway. In one review I even heard E2 vaguely compared to Diablo. Any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't take the comparison that far, it's more goal-driven and combat is less direct (plus the element of randomness in what order the cards are dealt each time). It's a more tactical game, in that you have to use what you are dealt effectively, as well as deciding how to upgrade your hero and their card library. It's been a while since I played the second game, but I just played the first one some more last night. For that one I recommend frequent saves, since an unlucky round of card deals can scotch an otherwise sound campaign. I believe this is much less of a factor in the second.

Also, the graphics and animations are great, and the music is superb. It's the only card-based game I play with any regularity, so I'd say it has appeal for folks who aren't a fan of the genre as a whole.
