SimonG: ...
What I was trying to say is that they simplified DRM to the point where only stuff like secuROM are called DRM and everything else is just a service, not DRM. The problem is what the acronym stands for - Digital Right Management. If they smack the term "DRM-free" all around, namely in tier's description, they should at least educate themselves what does that mean.

Steam does this themselves, their publisher pages detail how they are not DRM but something else entirely. DRM seems to be becoming solely about tying software to a machine, while Steam and Sim City and other such things tie it to an account.

Not saying I agree with that.

SimonG: I know I am repeating myself, but this is still a DRM free game. And they never said anything about GOG.

What's next. Complaining about missing Xbox 360 support?
Had I known it would integrated into Steam I wouldn't have backed it. I would've picked it up on Steam when and if felt compelled to do so. If I have to use their fucking client for anything it feels like DRM. I don't recall whether or not anything was mentioned about a GOG release or not during the campaign. I said I thought it would end up here. And I don't own an Xbox 360 so that has fuckall to do with anything going on in this thread. And since I put more money into this project than anything I had backed before, or since for that matter; I have a right to be concerned. An maybe even a little pissed off.

Well, DRM never got a proper definition anyway. Something that lead to countless discussion on this very forum (Be it GOGs account itself or cd keys, etc).

Most people associate DRM with stuff that actually is a nuisance for them playing the game. Like always online and such. The people who take an ideological stance on this issue might be plenty around here, but they are far and few in the whole. And to be fair, Securom and the such were only restrictions. While steam and even the appstore do offer services on top of the DRM.

For me this all sounds like a very contrived issue.

Most of all you should be pissed of about not properly reading their kickstarter pledge. The "news" that seem to get people up in arms is nothing but a rumor control.

They were very clear about some sort of account software /and who are we kidding, what could that have possibly meant) and said nothing at all about GOG. You can't be pissed for them not reading your mind or anticipating your desires.

Actually, it is very kosher of them to do this kind of rumor control before the pre-orders end in a few weeks.

This whole issues seems to me that people are upset about not getting stuff they hoped, and not about not getting stuff promised.

Somebody call the Encyclopaedia Britannica. It is that simple.

That's why I wrote in my first post that I didn't back SR because they were vague about what kind of DRM they intended to use and what it meant to them.

So they ... Didn't actually say that it's going to be DRM free?

The last time I checked the project (when it was active), tier description used phrase "DRM-free digital copy" while they mixed associated the term DRM-free with Steam and Applestore in Comments section.
That was my impression' I haven't followed their updates, so maybe they made some clear backer-only statement I don't know about.
Perhaps there should be something like the Kite Mark or Lion Mark to signify a clear standard of DRM-freedom. 'DRM-free-unless-you-ever-want-to-add-DLC-to-the-base-game' would then be distinguishable from 'DRM-free' by reference to a public standard. Although I'm not sure how helpful that would be in the case of Kickstarter projects.

(Apologies for the Anglo-centric references; I don't know how other countries mark goods.)

It's the BIO conundrum all over again ! What is BIO for someone is not for the next one ... like growing tomatoes with dead people : all natural all the way ! :)

edit : not conundrum, wrong word .... I meant 'debate' or something like that.

Yes, GOG has turned me into a monster.

SimonG: Now, providing a DRM free version on GOG would mitigate some of those costs (but not the manpower costs, which are probably the highest), I guess they couldn't reach a financial deal with GOG. Which isn't surprising, as they aren't the first dev to come out and say GOG takes a bigger cut than other stores.
GOG isn't only DRM free digital distribution platform.
