The ghost hunt begins anew!

Dark Fall: The Journal and Dark Fall 2: Lights Out, two gripping horror adventure games sporting a thick atmosphere with more than just a hint of ectoplasm, are returning to GOG.com today, for only $5.99 each.

Ghosts, apparitions, spirits--whether you see them or not, they're a part of our world just like the forces of nature, economy, and your postman. In most cases, they're separated from the mundane realm by a thin, yet impenetrable veil. There are some places, however, where the veil is thinner, and there are some people who can see through it. All. The. Time. If you're not one of these people, be thankful. Strange things happen around those with psychic abilities. The mere presence of such people throws the reality off balance. Sometimes, the other side pushes against the barrier so hard, that the worlds collide without a medium present. Some places break down under the pressure and become permanently haunted. In such places the mundane logic becomes suspended, and the realm of the strange and terrifying opens before humans. These games tell of such events and places.

Dark Fall: The Journal and Dark Fall 2: Lights Out are a shining example of paranormal activity-focused storytelling in gaming. Each of the games tells a gripping story in which the protagonist becomes involved in events that go far beyond our mundane understanding of the world. They create a first-person perspective experience that masterfully captures the eerie atmosphere of a ghost hunt, where the presence of strange forces feel very real and close. With immersive story and many intriguing puzzles these games should satisfy anyone looking for some chill-inducing adventure. Both games were available on GOG.com in the past, but had to be temporarily excluded from our catalog. Now, they're back to haunt you, and you'll enjoy it if they do.

Dark Fall: The Journal and Dark Fall 2: Lights Out eluded us for some time, but now they came back from the gaming limbo and we have them locked in our GOG.com proton pack, ready to bring them directly to your drive for only $5.99 each.

CthulhuKaamos: Sorry if someone has covered this already, but what's the story with having already brought these?

Both Dark Fall games are in my collection, and if I want to upgrade them does it essentially mean purchasing them over again? (Since they're not listed in the "new and updated" category)
No, you don't have to purchase them again, to get the updated versions you simply have to download the games again from your collection.
Just curious, why aren't these eligible for the series bundle discount?

charbon: Bought the games a little while ago, but I never heard of this publishing mess until today. So does this mean the developer did not receive his share for the 2 copies I bought? Not sure I'm ok with this...
I see your point, but as stated in previous posts by a Nordic Games representative it seems that they're now working hand in hand with Jonathan Boakes (the original dev, see below quote), so I guess if he's cool I suppose you can be ok as well :-)
I mean they won't disclose what the deal is about for obvious reasons, but I'm pretty sure they discussed money issues amongst other things :-)

undeadcow: It's interesting to see these re-releases still attributed to Nordic Games. Originally the developer cried foul claiming he was not being paid for his product and that Nordic Games has no right to distribute so GOG pulled these as an act of good faith. I guess this indicates the developer didn't have his facts straight and that Nordic was valid... that or GOG just decided to re-list these on the prior basis despite developer claims.

ThomNG: Or both parties found an agreement to work together, solve the issues they had and brought the titles back online (as mentioned on my post above ;) )
I wish you guys will be able to get back XIII as well someday. I wanted to buy it, but it was gone :-(

v1989: Good news to hear. I also congratulate you getting rights from THQ.
Rights from THQ?? Uh. I think somebodys confused here...

Anyway glad to see the titles back and updated too. Hopefully I will finally get around to playing through the first one XP

Nordic Games secured some of THQ's assets in the auction they had a few months ago. Dark Fall isn't one of those assets, thus the use of "I also congratulate you", which means it's off topic.

At least that is my interpretation of it.

And it is a good interpretation.

ThomNG: Dear Dark Fall fans,...
Thanks for taking the time to write, I was actually looking for the explanation.
Great to see again! And I hope Dark Fall 3: Lost Souls arrive soon.

ThomNG: Dear Dark Fall fans,
great to see the 2 titles back online. As on all of you who are wondering why they went offline and back online under the same publisher - well it was a legal issue which is now finally solved. We are now fully working together with the great developers and found a solution for those issues - sometimes nobody has to be right or wrong - it is all about a good partnership with all partners out there and about working closely together with them to find a common line. Details are nothing for public but it definitely has a great advantage for you - you are now getting the fully patched versions of those 2 games here on GOG.com.

Thanks to our friends from GOG.com as well for relaunching this title.

Your Nordic Games Team
Very cool of you guys at Nordic for the interaction and clarification.
I am happy everything is resolved and these great horror gems are back.
So what happens if you already bought the original releases on here?

Wow. That's a pretty damning review. Thank you for posting this. When I noticed GOG had stopped selling them, I downloaded them from my bookshelf back in April, just in case they were removed from there, too (back then, I wasn't sure what happened to games they no longer sold). Now I know not to delete them.

zlep: The installers are definitely the new versions. Dark Fall v2.0.0.6 and Dark Fall 2 v2.0.0.51 (GOG version numbers not the developers).
Confirmed. The versions I have saved (the last versions GOG sold) are (GOG's numbers):
"Dark Fall: The Journal" - 1.0.0.4
"Dark Fall 2: Lights Out" - 1.0.0.49

Isn't GOG now offering the original version as an extra as well? So there is no need to keep the original separately.
