Ultimate cosmic power has never been so near!

Wizardry 8, an epic conclusion to the Dark Savant saga, successfully transferring one of the most prominent classic RPG series into the realm of modern 3D graphics and featuring 200+ hours of challenging and diverse gameplay--DRM-free on GOG.com, for only $9.99

There's a reason gamers like to refer to the classic RPGs like Wizardry or Might and Magic series, as the games of the good old times. The transition from 2D sprite-based graphics into the realm of 3D marked a distinctive line after which role-play gaming was changed for ever, and in many cases not in the way fans hoped for. Wizardry 8 was one of the very few games, that achieved a great feat--it adopted to the new era of gaming without losing its original spirit and old-school charm. When released 9 years after the previous game in the series, It was praised for staying true to what made its predecessors great and memorable. This allowed all the fans of classic Wizardry games to experience the conclusion to the Dark Savant saga in the only way they would accept as true, while keeping up with the contemporary standards.

Wizardry 8 allows you to import your party from the previous game and complete the Dark Savant trilogy in the company of old friends.Offering yet another 200 or more hours of deep, original, and satisfying gameplay it was dubbed a worthy successor of the classic series, and a well written conclusion to the entire story. So, there you have it hardcore role-playing fans--paired with Wizardry 6+7 its a classic trilogy that takes about 700 hours total to beat. Isn't that simply mindblowing?

You cannot hide nor delete a legend! Complete one of the greatest RPG sagas in existence--the story of the Dark Savant--get Wizardry 8 for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

MadalinStroe: Well yes I know that, but it was last week. Doesn't the post say that we can expect it this week?
TurnipSlayer also added a bit on that thread. And TET also replied on this one.
So, the epic game releases of the Mind-Blowing May finally happened. (No wonder the last game before this was even called Unepic.) Great job, GOG, keep making people happy! ^_^

...And apparently I missed something interesting in regards to the front page? Darn, I should stop spending nights online and waking up late...

KING OF THE FIRST PERSON RPGS IN THE HOUSE

I still have my physical disks I got from a friend of mine who gave me the game for free because he thought it sucked.
Sure sucks to be him.

HomerSimpson: If you enjoy party based, turn based RPGs, you can't go wrong with the Wizardry releases.

Nirth: How's the difficulty?
Not outlandish. There certain idiosyncasies to the game that, if you know about them, make it a better experience. For example, in combat you want to optimally be situated in a corner to prevent the enemy from surrounding you. There are some great resources on the web that provide these hints and tips.

Beyond that, finding the party composition that's right for you takes some time simply because there is such a great variety of options. It's pretty much impossible to make a hopeless party, but some parties are more fun to play than others, depending on your style.

I can say this: if you invest the time to get into the game, that investment will pay off handsomely.

Theta_Sigma: I have never played Wizardry, I take it they are good from how excited everyone is.

Nordwolf: If you like role playing - it's one of the best in my opinion.
If you like a diverse character development - it's one of the best in my opinion.
If you like turn based combat - it's one of the best in my opinion.

And so on :-)

Edit: Speaking for Wizardry 8 only, I never played the earlier ones.
I would say it's THE best RPG game out there.
I remember playing Wiz7 (DOS) 14 years ago. It was the time before walkthroughs were available and I barely knew English. I played this for like 2 years. Funny thing I didn't know then that you can get boat so I maxed swimming on my characters and swam through sea using stamina potions and spells :)
You can't go wrong with this release.

TheEnigmaticT: Dear JMich;

Chaos Overlords has been detained for extra lessons at school. Please allow his friends Wizardry 6, 7, and 8 to take his place on the Ultimate Frisbee team this weekend. We trust you won't be put out too much by the substitution.

We're really pretty sure for reals this time that he'll come out to play next week.

Signed,

Mrs. Overlords

Buenro-games: I am getting the feeling Mr. EnigmaticT ate it and is now making all these lame excuses for it not showing up. Pondering whether to call the cops.
I didn't eat the whole thing! I only took a nybble.

Is it really better than Eye Of The Beholder 2?

A-ha, he took the Schnibble!

You know, I can't say considering I've never played EotB2.
I will say that Wizardry 8 is certainly my King, though. :)

Diffent. EotB is real-time, Wizardry series turn based.
The original Wizardry 8 featured a full screen advertisement for Falcon Northwest computers as you exited the game, which I guess was a bit of advertising necessary to fund the game's very limited release (it was an Electronics Boutique exclusive at first). Is that historical oddity preserved in GOG's version as well?

Full disclosure: I recently purchased a Falcon NW pc, it should be arriving any day now, so I am admittedly an unabashed Falcon fanboy.
Good grief! The game hasn't been up an hour and already there are THREE reviews of it.

Could people please not review a game you haven't played since you were a kid? Would it kill you to play the GOG version first in case it differs from what you played ages ago?

What the...? I gotta go, there are some kids on my lawn again.
damn that stupig huge logo...

I've wishlisted this game but the logo just keeps bugging me! I'm gonna have to buy the game right now!!!

*cries tired on the floor

Yeah, OK, this sentence summarizes the situation. Very good. :-)
Will pick this one up too. Shame they never really got the chance to finish the game properly, many red herrings. Still a good game though.
