Shaping the future of the fleet.

Wing Commander: Academy, a classic space combat sim that puts you through rigorous training of a Confederation fleet pilot, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Do you have what it takes to be space pilot? Do you think you can handle the Kilrathi, a fierce race of feline space warriors, hell-bent on destroying humankind? If you think you can handle the challenge, there's a chance that you might be what the fleet is looking for. Enlist now, and you'll be promptly transferred to our nearest training facility. You think flying a simulator is beneath you? Well think again! This is no ordinary training. We made damn sure you'll fail, and fail again until you learn from your mistakes. Hell, after we're done with you, you'll welcome fighting the actual Kilrathi as a nice change of pace.

Wing Commander: Academy delivers the excitement and challenge of space combat that has always been the trademark of the Wing Commander series, but this time you will be presented with missions you would never thought possible. You will participate in training simulations that mix and match conditions to prepare future Confederation pilots for just about anything. In the insane Gauntlet mode your task will be to withstand 15 waves of enemies, each more difficult than the last one. There's also a diverse mission creator at your disposal, presenting you with unlimited scenarios that will test your skill. Oh, and yes--this is the 600th game in GOG.com catalog, and yes--you can take it as a confirmation of even more Wing Commander titles coming our way in the future.

The Kilrathi menace won't just go away. Answer your destiny's call and take your part in securing the future of mankind in Wing Commander: Academy, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

yyahoo: I'm not sure what you mean. The instagram posting was hints for 4 classic game releases that would happen before the end of summer.

Thunderscape was the "thundering great RPG".

The war in the Wing Commander series seemed to go on for quite a while, so I thought that it might qualify for the "game inspired by a forever war."

I don't know if that guess if right or not, but there are still 3 more "classic" games incoming based on hints in the instagram post.

Ghorpm: Now I don't understand what you mean ;) Let's summarize it: my point of view:
- thundering great RPG = Thunderscape
- forever war = Wing Commander (JMich doubted about it and I only explained that both games were confirmed before instagram)
- And that leaves only 2, not 3 more classic games
Oh, so you're saying that you *do* think that WC:A was the "forever war" game. I didn't get that you were suggesting that. I thought you were saying that there weren't going to be anymore games released based on the instagram hint. I was only saying that there were 3 more games coming based on the instagram hint after Thunderscape was released, as I wasn't 100% sure that WC:A was the answer to the forever war hint...
I think Wing Commander series were not included in TET's hints and forever war is still a hint for Supreme Commander.

And we are on the same page now :) I just thought that nothing more would come from "forever war" hint and only this one, two more classic games should be here soon

Melnorme's post seems to confirm it was Wing Commander

Foxhack: Credit card + PayPal = happy tburger

tburger: Well I'm rather reluctant to set up yet another account - especially under this, say, abnormal circumstances. But if this will be persistent - well I'll probably go for this option.

Incidentally few questions about PP: in PP do I link my card to account and money is drawn directly from card or I have to transfer money to PP account? How does PP looks in terms of conversion rates, fees etc? Does PP accept debit cards also or only CC?
They pull the money from your credit card.

PayPal issues a charge to your credit card for the value of whatever you're buying. Then PayPal pays the merchant after they get their processing charge. I don't think you'll have a PayPal balance unless you create an account set up to have one.

I don't think their conversion fees will be very much, probably a few cents, and even then I think the merchant pays them, not you. If there's fees then PayPal will tell you. And it should work with credit or debit cards.

Ok, thanks. SupCom series may still land here, though, because the IP was bought by Nordic.

I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure Foxhack means to select the Paypal option here on GOG then there'll be an option below logging in which will allow you to enter your credit card without creating a Paypal account, although you still have the option to do so at the same time.

I use Papypal's instant money transfer for the PL version of PayPal. Works great and they are good about refunding your money in case you forget to fill in the "Tytuł" section.

Just be careful when surfing behind a VPN because I once tried to buy Beyond Divinity here before I was a staff member and PayPal blocked that lightning quick :D

SonataFanatica: A bit sad that the only "bonus material" for the game is the manual...
What are they missing? They've added lots of bonus material to other EA games on here, so there may be more stuff coming.
Now we're talking. This is why I come here.

I'll support anything WC appearing here. One request, though: with Prophecy on its way, not including Secret Ops would be a glaring omission. Fingers crossed that you guys include the expansion!
Instant buy! Just to complete my Wing Commander series. Looking forward to the remainder of the series since I didn't manage to play Armada prior.

Thanks GOG!

Crosmando: I wonder if "The Kilrathi Saga", the Windows port/enhancement of the first three games, will come to GOG in time...
I don't know about WC3 but there's really nothing better about the Kilrathi Saga versions of WC1 and 2. The main upside were native compatibility for Windows and a digitized soundtrack recorded from an MT-32 (that the soundtrack was composed for), with DOSBox and MUNT you get these advantages as well and DOSBox is far more compatible with newer versions of Windows than the Kilrathi Saga ports.

The biggest downside of the Kilrathi Saga versions is that they don't support the expansion packs (which are included in the GOG release) so GOG is already offering the best versions of these games.

Edit: Oh yeah, that part's actually wrong. You can get the addons as free downloads.

Personal experience here: I tried that with Groupees BeMine8. Wasn't too keen on using PayPal so I tried to do it like you said.
My purchase was refused with an unspecified error. Oh joy! I tried a couple more times and my card got blocked. :-(

Early this week I decided to buy some other Groupees bundle. I tried without an account once more and it still error'd. I gave up, created a Paypal acc and this time it worked flawlessly.

TL;DR: Go ahead, but be prepared to call Visa to unblock your CC.
[sarcasm]A game from 1993?!? Wow, I thought GOG didn't release old games anymore.[/sarcasm]

Is it worth it to start at Wing Commander 1? Rebel Assault turned me off to space flying games for awhile so I never did the WC series.

In short, yes. Unless you really care about graphics, in which case you should move on over to Freespace 2, and install the FS2 Open mod. :D
