The secret life of the Red Planet.

Waking Mars, an original platform game that focuses on free-form jetpack-aided exploration of the Martian underground, is now available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for a whole week!

For all we know, the life that we know didn't start here, on Earth. One of the theories says that the spark that kick-started the evolution in the primordial ocean came from outer space and it points to our nearest neighbor as its probable source. Mars wasn't necessarily always covered with arid deserts and infertile rock. Unmanned missions, like the one carried out by Curiosity Mars Rover, gather more and more proof that the surface of the Red Planet used to be blue, green, and very much alive. Life on Mars. Maybe it's not entirely gone? Maybe someday humans will touch the red dust with their own feet and feel a pulse coming deep from the underground--a sign, that Mars is waking.

In Waking Mars the fantasy of living Mars becomes your reality. However, not everything goes as planned with the first contact expedition, and you become trapped in the giant underground system of caves and corridors. Using your space-suit's jetpack you have to explore your surroundings, learn the dependencies of the Martian ecosystem, and figure out how to use the alien creatures and plants in your advantage. Your survival depends on your ability to adapt, in this unique game filled with eerie beauty and unknown danger. On GOG.com, the game comes with a bonus MP3 soundtrack filled with many great electronica tunes guaranteed to bring high-quality Sci-Fi ambiance into your day.

So, what are you still doing here on Earth? Shouldn't you be Waking Mars by now, for only $4.99 on GOG.com? The offer lasts until Tuesday, March 12, at 10:59AM GMT.

bansama: The controls on the iOS version also didn't help, but then, perhaps I just don't like touch screen gaming.
i've never played a good platformer on a smartphone or tablet (well, one that hasn't been extremely simplified like temple run), it just sucks without a real gamepad.

MichiGen: WTF Is... Waking Mars?
This might help you decide, I must say that it looks really interesting.
Although the graphics style reminds me of "And yet it moves" game.

nijuu: His impressions are usually very informative. Actually And Yet it Moves reminds me of that new game The Bridge
Yes I like his videos. His opinions are almost always very reasonable. I've only wishlisted Waking Mars though, because it's not exactly a must have for me and I've already spend too much lately on games. But it certainly looks interesting and when it'll be like 2.50$ for example I'll get it :).

Jernfuglen: Looks like aquaria in space.

jorlin: I love Aquaria, but this game plays quite differently, although you might compare the different seeds that you have in Waking Mars with the forms of Aquaria, Later on micro-management is necessary when you get to a certain depth. After that the game becomes much more challenging, though also a bit tedious. But hey, that's probably because I haven't found out the trick for that WM level yet.
We need Aquaria on GOG so damn bad....

Some waiting and "farming" is required. It's not too bad, but it's there. Definitely not an action game.

There's nothing in common with And Yet It Moves except superficial art similarities. It's vaguely similar to Aquaria if you take out all the combat and make the song puzzles more complicated. The best way to think of Waking Mars is as a puzzle game based on farming alien plants and animals. The line between sim and puzzle is hard to draw because they are integrated so tightly.
I've had this for my iPhone forever and just started playing it a few days ago. I love it. Most of the time a mobile game can't get me sucked in, but I love planting things and discovering new research about the different lifeforms. And the art is gorgeous. I think the AI is funny, personally.
