A true role-playing platformer experience that will unleash your inner munchkin.

Unepic, an awesome RPG/platformer full of loot, monsters, dungeons, and lots of nerd culture-based humor showing just how fun tabletop role-playing might get, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week.

Daniel was one of those guys, who will argue with everyone for a chance to re-roll their character's stats. He would secretly add "+1"s to his equipment sheet when nobody was looking. Sometimes, he would "accidentally" knock down a cup of Slurpee on the table just to rearrange the characters setting on the map. And, boy, was he good at it! Maybe he had superior stealth stats and no one ever noticed his meddling, or maybe everyone thought that arguing with "that guy" was pointless. The important thing was: Daniel rocked tabletop role-playing. At least in his own opinion. But then, one dark night, as he left the table only for a moment, he was transported into a dark and ominous castle taken straight from a Game Master's most sadistic dream. Daniel would have to muster all of his skills and tricks to handle this ordeal. But, after all, he WAS the ultimate munchkin!

Unepic is a exploration and loot-based fantasy platformer that in its core is the ultimate tribute to pen-and-paper role-playing and nerdom. The number of times the game winks at fantasy gaming fans, TV show followers, bookworms, and gamers is simply uncountable. You will explore a huge set of dangerous stages with varied environments, vast selection of monsters, and even more incredible equipment to find and utilize against your foes. The GOG.com version even comes with some exclusive items, unavailable anywhere else!

If the way of the munchkin is your preferred approach to tabletop RPGs, if you appreciate nerd-culture references, if you love loot above everything else, it's time for you to start exploring the realm of Unepic, for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The launch offer lasts until Tuesday, May 28, at 9:59AM GMT.

Telika: It being a good game may also have influenced the sales.
Well yeah and that.

I think it's funny that UnEpic got it's own thread made by someone to condemn it and yet it stands pretty firm as a GREAT title and probably the best overall indy there is on here, and there are some really good ones.

What is funny is that those who condemn it and those who praise it are both right. It's an obnoxious excellent title. The gameplay is top notch, some aspects of the writing are real good (the evolving dynamics between the main character and his possessing ghost, the ambiguity about what is happening), and some elements are infuriatingly awful (the lame teenage "tits lol" humour, both in the dialogues and some subquests themselves), making you wonder if the same kind of person did all that. And from what I understood, yes. So, you have to cope with it, because the rest is real good. Which makes it actually quite funny (at the player's -our- expense).

So, I keep rolling my eyes or facepalming at the heavy unfunniess of the pseudo-transgressive humour, yet enjoy the game a huge lot, and am impressed by many aspects and ideas and implementations. I'd say this IS both one of the best and worst games on GOG. It should be at the top and the bottom of the bestselling list.

It's a great game, and I only wish it had been written a little bit before or after the instant of life where the author just discovered that he CAN say naughty words when his mum is not looking... But the fact it was clearly produced at this moment is also what makes it a weird object. Its flaw is amusing at some "meta" level (imagine the author replaying it in 4 years).

Just played the demo and loved it! It also supports netbook resolution (Yay for me!). I'll definitively buy this game from GOG in the future.

Little does he know I never downrepped him but for a few dollars I'd be happy to kiss his dick anyway.

I love this forum.

Kadlin: It's how the majority of this community is. If you don't like an olde game, they'll do what they can to make you look bad.
I just like to quote people on that kind of comments.
It's quite not believable to make asumptions on the majority of an unknown number of people.
It sounds lazy and/or narrow-minded in my opinion. And rude for sure.

Edit : ok my last 2 posts may seem contradictory. But I have an excuse !

wasn't sure about this, but then saw the trailer and wishlisted
Good lord, this game shot up the bestselling list fast. Been here a week, and it's now outselling over two-hundred other games; the Wizardry games, which you might think would naturally outsell it on a site like this, aren't even close. Of course, it is on sale, but even so, I'm a little surprised.

I've said this before, but when played on the language it was originally written, the language is just right. Exactly the kind of language most people my age use when hanging out with friends, and I'm 29. I'd say the language used actually boosted my enjoyment of the game, but apparently the localization to English hasn't been very fortunate.
I've just played this for a while and it's like an RPG/Platformer hybrid. Lots of dialog so far but that's okay. It helps create the story. The only thing I don't like about it is the save system. You can't save anywhere but it has an autosave sort of like a checkpoint. Other than that it's pretty fun.

They speak just like I do I the heartland of the U.S.A. but then I'm rude and crude so take that for what it's worth. For someone to say the localization is bad is pretty silly. I'm not calling you silly but rather the folks who have given you the impression that the localization is for shit. No way; just too many people itching to be pissed off about something other than the things that are actually important.

The save system is a staple of most, if not all, metroidvanias. At least in this one you get a nice teleport to the save point because in other games in this style you have to haul butt to the save point :D.

Yeah, still... Maybe it's... a bit less about how it's said than about what is said.

I mean, using proper medical terms wouldn't change much, would it ? "Dick, cunt, lol" or "penis, vagina, zygomatic muscles activation" still define the same universe...

No it does not. If it did, you wouldn't be asking for a switch, would you?

How it's said is exactly what it makes it so relatable for me, it really boosts immersion. But hey, Basques are known for being a superficially rude bunch.
