Strike against the Darkfall!

Thunderscape, a classic 1990s dungeon crawler with real-time exploration of a vast and diverse underworld and challenging turn-based combat against many fearsome fiends of chaos, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

The world of Aden is in great peril. The demonic, corruptive power known as the Darkfall fills the world with monsters, abominations, and evil-inspiring artifacts. The realm is in dire need of defenders, and it's your job to lead them against the forces of chaos. You will explore a dark and dangerous underground to reach for the power you'll need to bring the light to where darkness reigns. A small party of stalwart adventurers seems to stand little chance against the hordes of evil. It's up to you to prove, that miracles do happen in fantasy worlds.

Thunderscape presents you with many time-proven RPG ideas that work together so well, that it's astounding that anyone would want to modify them. You get a party of six brave champions, a large gameworld to explore, lots of items to collect, stats to build, and enemies to slay. While roaming the world, the game progresses in real-time, switching to turn-based combat whenever you approach (or get ambushed by) an opponent. With everything that made dungeon crawlers so successful in the 1990 and some very distinctive steampunk-ish feel, this game is highly recommended to all cRPG fans looking for a challenge!

Set off to explore the world of Aden and save it from the corruptive forces of the Darkfall in Thunderscape, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.
Chaos Gate does "work" on modern OS's, at least for me (I use Win7 64-bit). You need to apply the 1.2 patch, and run the game executable in compatibility mode for Windows XP, 2000, or 98/Me.

gandalf.nho: Not much time ago the tabletop RPG appeared in KS in a project for a new version and I remember people in GOG's crowdfunding topic discussing these 2 games (Thunderscape and Entmorph)
Same people who are publishing it here on GOG, they are reviving the old tabletop game as a Pathfinder scenario.

hunvagy: Chaos Gate sadly does not run on modern OSes, and believe me, I tried. There's something weird with one of the enemy units, that makes the game crash on anything newer then Win98SE.
Wasn't there a solution for this by altering (deleting?) appropriate sound file ?
Playing Chaos Gate is not a problem because the game doesn't use hardware accelleration and thus can be run on VirtualPC.

Anybody else still think GOG is neglecting old classics ? :P

Haven't tried in years, and probably won't anytime soon, I have no idea where my physical disc disappeared to.

Now all I can see is an armpit :)
Did I just see an SSI logo? Could that mean that we might get all of the.................nah, we couldn't be that lucky, could we?

Nope, we are not. Especially since this isn't the first SSI game we had on GOG.

Still hoping for the rest though, especially Fantasy General
Instabought and another copy tossed into a giveaway. Thanks GOG, and looking forward to Entomorph, which I recall being mooted as coming as well.
Well, I've been waiting for 'Entomorph - Plague of the Darkfall', but I guess this is interesting, too. So...thank you GOG for releasing this game! I think I will buy it soon.
Did someone just say Fantasy General and Entomorph? O.O

RaggieRags: GOG, any chance of getting that guide as an extra? Please?

TurnipSlayerr: We should be getting the strategy guide but it wasn't ready for the game's release.
Excellent, at least it's coming!

Awesome to see more good old games released, too. :)

Mentalepsy: On a side note, I'm happy to FINALLY see another SSI release. SSI debuted here years ago, and this is only #3. :(
avatar
Crosmando: Yes, I think it would be in GOG's best interests to chase the SSI D&D RPG's aggressively, when you look at the best selling games on GOG a great many of them are D&D computer games.
I highly agree with this. :)

Hi everyone! Kyoudai Games is very happy and proud to be working with GOG to bring you Thunderscape, and Entomorph is in fact in the works.

Also, there is a copy of the strategy guide in hand we are working to get it to GOG ASAP.

Entomorph should be coming as I recall.
Fantasy General, no idea :(
Entomorph is a Windows 3.x game and as I recall it crashes due to lack of memory on modern systems (there's a workaround though).
Woohoo, a shower of classics!!!

And quite surprisingly, a 90s game I don't have as a retail version already, and I have barely heard of. The title rings some bells, but then it could be some other game that just sounds similar, like "Thundercats are GO!".

Schnuff: Good, another day my wallet is save.
It was nothing more than a mediocre game at the time of release.
Maybe if you find it interesting fighting endless hordes of monster so you can
check an (most times) empty room and than on the way back fighting the same
hordes again.
Ok, maybe that's the reason I haven't got this game already, nor barely recognize it...
