The galaxy is your oyster.

Smugglers V, a turn-based Sci-Fi epic where you fight, trade, and pirate your way to the top of galactic elite, is available on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

There is a whole genre of games dedicated to a single idea: you're a spacecraft pilot climbing the ladder of power and fame through trading, combat, prospecting, freighting, and possibly piracy. The unsurpassed freedom and feeling that your destiny is your own to shape, made this single idea one of the most prolific motifs in PC gaming. Many of space-sims enjoy cult following and games of this genre developed nowadays sometimes reach incredible scale and complexity. Most of them, though, involve a lot of action and put reflexes before tactics and planning. This one is different. It's played in turns.

Smugglers V is what you get when a dedicated creator polishes and improves every aspect of his game for years. Smugglers is not a series in the common understanding of the word. You don't need to play Smugglers 1-4 to enjoy the fifth one to full extent. It's still pretty much the same game, that evolves with each installment, gaining more and more gameplay depth, enriching the dynamic universe presented, and offering new options. In the latest version we offer you here, the phenomenal turn-based space-sim offers 30+ different spacecrafts, 100+ pilot skills and traits, 6 different career choices, and 4 factions to pledge allegiance to at your whim. The turn-based mechanics make this title extremely addictive, as the "one more turn" syndrome can hold you at the helm to the wee hours of the morning.

Pilot, forge your fortune and make your own destiny in a galaxy full of war, unrest, villany, and opportunity in Smugglers V, for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
Played 20 minutes of this at lunch time and so far it seems like good fun. Dosent take long to set up and the game seems easy to play without reading the 86 manual. Music does get repetitive quite quickly and apart from the small game screen i cant complain about the game and cant wait to get back to this universe.
Nice! Had a blast with SmugglersIV, so this is a great release for me, especially at this price :) Still got Memoria to play for now, so I'll put SmugglersV on my wishlist for now to pick up later. Got to say lately it seems like one awesome release after another on here, thanks GOG! :D

This kind of resembles Endless Space. Granted I've only played the demo of that and seen screenshots of this but if anyone has played them both, am I way off track or are the 2 games similar?

No, these are two absolutely different games. Smugglers is like Space Rangers or turn-based Star Control, but more repetitive and slightly flavourless. Though it's a good game, the more now when price became reasonable.
Interesting, I wishlisted it for now.
Interesting...a turn-based Elite game...Never heard of this one. Will do some investigating.
Holy crap, I remember playing a demo of an earlier version of this game years ago, maybe number 2 or 3.

Had a lot of fun with it, but when that HDD failed I could never remember the name of the damn game.

Kabus: Great release. I hope Smugglers 1-4 on way to GOG.
Same here, though it's very possible in any case, seeing 1-4 is cheap overall. If they're willing to sell V for far less than their websites price, I can see 1-4 being an easy $5.99 purchase, especially since they outright state they don't support them any more (though $9.99 would be alright as well).

Another series they seem to have that looks interesting is Empires & Dungeons. The second game info can be found here: http://www.nielsbauergames.com/empiresanddungeons.html . Could be another good looking indie publisher future releases. I would assume 1-4 are a bit dated, and apparently the first game was requested to be re-released, so it must be good, even if each game simply "builds" on the last.

If there's one thing GOG proves it's that old games with simpler mechanics can be very enjoyable indeed.
TV Manager 2 looks like a cool MadTV! clone, wonder why I never heard of these guys.
I've heard of the series before, but never really bothered checking it out. Guess I'll give the demo a try. It sure looks interesting.

No kidding. The game/scheduling mechanics look almost like a spot-on copy.

KarmaTV: Wishlisted. Waiting for some opinions from those who couldn't hesitate any longer with buying ;)

SCPM: You can always try the demo ;)

And it even has a "Blind compatibility mode"!
I mean - how many games have that?

Not that I'd need it, but it's a good thing, nonetheless.
Checking the demo, thanks SCPM!

damien: never heard of Smugglers.

Are Smugglers I-IV separate games each or is the series more like each game an update of the previous one?
Its more of an "update" they don't really follow the same story at least 3 to 4 did not. Played them both and have to say I been waiting for this to get at a good price as the asking 30.00 on steam and the website was just out of my reach for this type of game.

Well, you've certainly whet my appetite now...damn you! ;-) *eyes backlog*
Wishted for now.
