There's a man who leads a life of danger.

Secret Agent, a classic Apogee platformer from the EGA-era, with elaborate level design and a licence to kill, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

You are Agent 006½, the agency's top man specializing in impossible missions. This game tells the story of three such tasks. Over the course of three episodes--The Hunt for Red Rock Rover, Kill Again Island, andDr. No Body--you will infiltrate enemy bases, eliminate designated targets, avoid detection, and steal top secret plans. Well, either that, or you'll run, jump, and shoot your way through in a flashy, camp environment full of platforms, traps and puzzles. Might be more of the latter, than the first.

Secret Agent is a run-and-jump platformer as classic as they get. Released in 1992 by Apogee Software it uses the previously tested mechanics and engine of the Crystal Caves but adds spy pulp-novel setting to the picture. The game sports large, cleverly designed levels filled with traps and puzzles. There are secret bonuses to find on every stage and a varied cast of enemies--ranging from ninjas to robots--to either avoid or eliminate as you carry out your secret mission.

The odds are you won't live to see tomorrow, but isn't risk the spice of life for a Secret Agent? The licence to kill is now only $5.99 on GOG.com!
Apogee is never short on platformer. Great to have them as partner.

tinyE: I'm not complaining but I'm losing track of the number of platformers being released here this month.
GOG has been bringing lots of Apogee titles the past few weeks.

Yeah I love them all. I can't stress enough that I wasn't moaning the fact. One day I'll pick up Duke 1&2 and start from there. Of course by that time I'll be in a retirement home but I'm sure they will give me time to game between sponge baths.

RaggieRags: I couldn't get into Super mario because of games like this. The controls were precise, while Mario was slippery somehow. Secret Agent doesn't look like much, but the gameplay is there.
Indeed. I never had a console, started with a Atari 800XL, then right into PC gaming since 1991. So Mario & Co were quite unknown to me, but I played them at a cousin's and you are right, the controls were slippery. Nothing compared here to Secret Agent, Prince of Persia or Flashback.

Secret Agent was quite fun in the 90ies. The difference to Mario is IMO that you don't just run straight from left to right and jump on enemies, but you have to explore a real 2D labyrinth, take on some riddles (IIRC, finding a satellite icon and such) etc. Also the setting is better. :)

Commander Keen though was more childish and more difficult in control, especially with the pogo stick.
I have funny memories of playing this with a friend of mine. She gave me the shareware version and we used to hang out at my computer after school and take turns. Because you'd start the game from command prompt with the name "SAM1" (Secret Agent Mission 1), we called the little guy Sam. We got cheap thrills by hiding him behind every coffee mug so that you could only see his head behind the giant mug and it looked like he was inside it. Sam coffee!
Oh, I loved the shareware version of this. Played it a lot.

I'll definitely buy it in near future.
Holy crap I remember playing this as a kid. I didn't recognise the name but my eyes widened with the first screenshot. I'll have to pick this up soon.
Have played the shareware version of this when I was young and it was one of my favorites (together with Crystal Caves and the different Monster Bash). Good to see this Oldie But Goldie on GOG. :-)
More classic Apogee!
Used to play this when I was little.
Thank you GOG.
Lots of Apogee lately, these games look nice but I'll wait on a sale for most of these. Not a priority for me.
To cr8y... who wrote the review. Here are the real prices of what it cost back then, and it was not 3.99 USD as you claim it. Source: ORDER.FRM file in the shareware episode.

Yeah, I don't know where he had that idea AT ALL. It was naturally going to be more expensive back then. I think 3.99 might be a better price here (Duke 1 & 2 is a good 5.99 deal), but 5.99 is certainly cheaper than back in the day.
i loved secret agent great game but the price point is a bit high dont you think ?
Oh my favourite platformer :)

I have played the shareware version so much mmm very happy to see it finally here
