The explosive return of ludicrous gibs!

Rise of the Triad, a very modern take on classic ultra-violent FPS gameplay, filled to the brim with over-the-top humor and gore, and offering hours upon hours of fast-paced crazy action in single and multi-player mode, is available on GOG.com for only $14.99.

After nearly two decades one of the most memorable first-person shooters returns with a blood-dripping, gib-blasting, gun-slinging, rocket-spamming vengeance! The ominous organization known as "The Triad" is plotting to take over the world by force, terror, and apparent nazi symbolism. Is up to the agents of H.U.N.T.--High-risk United Nations Task-force--to stop the evildoers once and for all, preferably by splattering them all over their (not so) secret base walls. Be warned, there are even darker forces at play, here, as the Triad is known to dabble in the occult and demonic worship, as a way of reaching for power to obtain their evil goals. Oh, and it has a dog-mode.

Rise of the Triad: Modern K9 Warfare trailer

Rise of the Triad brings back everything we loved about the first-person shooters of the 1990s. Swarms of enemies, no hand-holding, awesome guns, badass one-liners, a pretense story, and ridiculous amounts of virtual guts flying all over the place--all checked and accounted for. Apart from a diverse and challenging single-player campaign, that pays a tribute to the game's predecessor, the new Rise of the Triad offers many multi-player game modes (the game supports its own DRM-free server network). The game's fully moddable and a robust creative tool comes with every copy, so you can extend your experience indefinitely. All that, for a fraction of the price of most modern FPS games of comparable scale!

We promise, nothing can make a classic FPS fan feel as good as spamming lead at the minions of evil and watching their insides painting the walls red in Rise of the Triad, for only $14.99 on GOG.com

Bought and bought looks fantastic.
Installed and first few minutes run: Looks good, play good, and crap it works with checkpoint, you cannot save when you feel like it. That right there is worth a least a full star less if I go around to write a review. I'm an old gamer with no patience with repeating things endlessly, I usually save after each kills and before opening door or going around a corner.

The game has a checkpoint-only save system? Why all modern devs insists in put old console limitations in a PC game?

That sucks.

Checkpoints? Are you f***ing kidding me right now? And you can't even manually save!? Wow... just wow.
Found a couple reviews:

The checkpoints thing is kind of irritating, but other than that we'll see how this goes.
Posting my first impressions of the game here, since the site doesn't tell me what my word or character limit is and I can no longer be bothered editing it any further (seriously, fix this, for god's sake!). Sorry if it appears to be a wall of text in this format and sorry that it's not more detailed but I had to cut a lot out as is. Hopefully it's of some help anyway.

First Impressions (Single Player)

Disclaimer: I've yet to complete the original game that this is a remake of so I can't compare the two at all, but only share my thoughts on this alone.

The first thing that caught my attention is that it's got plenty of bells and whistles for a PC title. I always expect a good amount of options for my PC games and this game has those in spades. Lots of options to be tweaked here. I suppose it'd be nice if there were some explanation as to what some of them actually did but, hell, the game has everything from your basic settings to an adjustable HUD so I'm hardly complaining.

Now, sod all that: the gameplay. So, I'm playing on Medium for my first playthrough and not really facing any problems yet, but that's to be expected. If you followed any of the developer diaries or interviews, then you may recall that they wanted to place emphasis on the player feeling like an overpowered badass. That you certainly do. I cannot explain in words how fun it is to have a bunch of enemies charge at you stupidly as you jump into the air using a trampoline and blast them into gibs from above.

Thankfully, the guns feel great in order for you to do this, and there's a bunch of them too. You'll have to be on the lookout for secrets to find the really awesome ones but you'll still find plenty of rocket launchers and the like lying around for you to outmatch your enemies with. The enemies aren't really varied at the moment but a glance at the manual shows that there's a lot more to come. They're fun to shoot at and are at least fairly animate in the sense that they have some dialogue, hilariously shouting "Drop the gun!" at you before you blow them to pieces for instance.

And, yes, on that note, the game is gloriously violent. It's actually ridiculous but I can't help but smile at the mess you can make, especially if you're close enough to an enemy for their eyes to splatter against the screen when you kill them and your charming character to shout "Fuckin' A!" in response. The game in a nutshell, ladies and gentlemen.

Graphically, the game isn't the most impressive thing ever, but that's fine because the game runs very smoothly, which is great since your character moves really fast and can hop all around the place like a madman. Honestly, though, it's the art and level design that stand out. Actually, one thing you should do if you pre-ordered this, and redeemed the original game, is to simply compare the manuals - that alone shows off just how much effort went into remaking this. In-game, you have some excellent level design and just a lovely looking game in general, and there's even some humorous easter eggs thrown in for good measure. I'll also quickly say that the soundtrack for this game is brilliant. Perfect even.

So, bear in mind that I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet and bear too in mind that that comes with a level editor and dedicated servers. Oh, and modding tools. Not to mention that the single player has four different difficulty settings and, I think, five different playable characters. For $15. Yeah.

As I love GOG.com I instantly bought this game when pre-order became available.

Sadly, it's an ugly piece of shit with abysmal production quality, terrible voice acting and stiff animations. Feels more like playing a mediocre mod rather than a real game made by professional programmers.

I want my money back :-(

Woah, tough critic. So, as someone who doesn't typically play brand new first person shooters on PC, I'm curious as to what you were expecting.

I think it looks pretty damn good to be honest with you.

Lol wut, I'm playing as the Chinese lady and the voice-acting is fine (I come on it's just little lines when you kill people like DN3D). The graphics look amazing to me with everything set to max (that said this is the first FPS released in last 6 years I have played) and the gameplay plays exactly like a fast arena shooter. My only criticism (so far) is that the gibbing and blood spray isn't very detailed, also some bugs.
