Little worlds need their gods, too!

Reus, an imaginative 2D god-game that makes you a deity of a small planet and a master to its elemental titans, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week!

Do you like to play god? Admit it--you do. Who doesn't. The absolute power that god-games give is ever so tempting and satisfying. The ability to shape the face of the world, and by extent the fates of its little inhabitants is simply intoxicating. Oh wait, did I say "little"? Well, to themselves they probably look quite regular in size. It's all a matter of perspective--every world seems tiny when you're an boundless being of limitless power. In this case, however, the planet is indeed quite small. The people living on its surface look even tinier in comparison to the elemental titans, huge beings that serve as your worldly avatars. Huge, again, is only a word that applies here conditionally. Even the giant beasts seem puny if they do your every bidding and fit on your computer screen. On your lap or your desk. In your room. At your home. In your town. In your country. In the world, also a small planet that's but a tiny blue dot floating in the endless blackness of the Universe. Perspective.

Reus puts a whole world in your hands. The planet you're destined to watch over is a complex world full of dependencies and synergies, making every act you perform cause a great impact on the gameworld and its inhabitants. You directly control the actions of giant elementals roaming its surface--may they be creative or destructive. You can raise or lower mountains, move bodies of water, cause forests to grow or die. Yours is the ultimate power. The only thing you can't affect directly are the actions of the tiny humans, possessing their own free will. Will they fear you as the bane of their land, or worship you as their divine benefactor? It's all up to you. With intriguing and diverse gameplay, lots of correlations to discover, and many challenges to complete, Reus will entertain you for a long, long time.

With unbelievable cosmic power Reus allows you to play god for only $8.99 on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Thursday, May 23, at 4:59PM GMT.

Buenro-games: Is this game like Black & White?
Not really.

I put a post in this thread about what playing the game is like and wrote a review on the game's gamecard if you want more details on that.

But in short, it's a repetitive game with almost no consequences for messing up that just happens to have a lot of superfluous variations on the same core gameplay.

Tarhiel: Let him ask whatever he wants :P

Why would you ask about Cthulhu?

tinyE: I was in a thread in this forum discussing this game a few months ago and a few people mentioned that one of the 'gods' you could play as was either a giant octopus or a Cthluhu. It was just in passing and I still had my Cthulhu avatar (which odds are I'm switching back to tomorrow FYI) so maybe they were just screwing with me. Thought I'd ask.

and Fenixp is allowed to give me crap regardless of if he's joking or not so his reply was A.O.K. with me. :D
Fenixp was joking, I was not :)

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna check your review.
The description on the gamecard makes it sound just like Doshin the Giant. But after reading the comments in the forum, it appears its different gameplay-wise, but the "god game" aspect of it seems exactly like Doshin.

Just to answer.
No, the four giants (Ocean, Mountain, Forest and Swamp) are the only ones available, have a look on the Reus wiki to read about them. -->

Thanks. :D As is I think I'll wait but either way those are really cool looking giants, in my opinion.
Hey, does this game like install some Microsoft .NET thing by any chance? Just notice this folder with "netfix_core" and the like just appeared in my hard-drive I install games to.

I watched couple LP's and it seemed more of a timed challange/puzzle game rather than god game. Pretty much all you do it place, improve and rearrange mineral deposits, plants and animals to meet the correct resource ratio to complete the challange (in form of building projects) to improve your 4 aspects/avatars. Clearly not game for me as neirther like time limits nor puzzles.

delboy2k10: Yeah its a Direct X 11 game, and the card therefore must be a newer type Nvidia or AMD card which is fully Direct X11 compliant. (From what I can tell, you dont need a high end DX11 card, just a card that is DX11 compliant, but its not very clear on any website for this specification)

They are working at lowering this to Dx9/10 but its going to take a few weeks.

Looking at the forums it appears the game is not coded to lower textures or graphics in the kind of way to make it run on cards bought more than 3 years ago, so yes be careful on your purchase or wait several weeks for the patch

Drerhu: "3D graphics card with 512 MB of RAM or more, compatible with DirectX 10, 500 MB HDD, Mouse, Keyboard. "

Trust me..is a directx 10 game (like my card ) but the problem is: XNA Hidef profile allow to develop the game easier, but with more restrictions. This happened to me before, and lot of people for example have a Directx10 card wich could play Skryim, but no these games. I have read the forums and that isn´t a directx related problem.

Anyway yeah, they are working for a solution, no downgrading directx 9,just trying to downgrad to the XNA lowdef profile, that is more compatible.

If people want to know if is card is capable of running this, download the Hell yeah, wrath of the dead bunny demo, its a XNA Hidef game with similar requirements.
Indeed

Just + Rated you for the more complete answer.

Although DX10 cards are listed as requirement on GOG, the early forums at Abby were confusd over the whole issue, and the HiDef profile is definatly the culpret as you mentiond.

My interpretation was the scalability of the game, where other games would use textures and bloom etc which can be scaled, this seemed to be a different coded game hence my interpretation

No Harm, No Fowl.

I like tile set games, feel a bit peeved like many who thought this is Black and White 0.5 or something, but as a game itself, I think its enjoyable and woth the price of 2 pints of lager (which is basically what this is in the UK)

Thanks for your clearup

Titanium: Pronounced like Deus, but with a R as in Rock. Rock God. Heh, yeah.
avatar
F4LL0UT: I'll pronounce it like Zeus with an R. Screw the fact that this way people are gonna think that I'm talking about R.U.S.E. Ree-us just sounds wrong. <.<
'T was a jest. Deus means "God" in latin. And Reus is a game where "Gods" walk the earth.

Dammit F4LLOUT, get your shit together! This is why we can't have nice things.

Thanks to you : ) I have been in the forums and news are:

Maybe they will switch the game to others XNA without so much restrictions. In fact Directx10 cards are capable of deal with the texture resolution etc but XNA Hidef put a lot of restrictions.

So people..just take care...you could be playing this since you buy it, or wait for a dowgrading like me and others one.

But being the first release of Abbey..is awesome, and with that price-developers love, you should pick it right now : )!
This is one of those games where a demo would be really helpful to me to see what the gameplay is like. A video can only take you so far.

Efren93: OK, how much will take to get available games' soundtracks for an addon?

I understand that it's not that easy to get new games' soundtracks free, but at least would be nice to see them like an addon and "game+soundtrack" bundles saving a couple of bucks.
I too think GOG should start selling game soundtracks, but there might be backlash for selling something that was once free. :P

Anyway, seems like you can find a lot of indie game music on bandcamp, but if you've bought the game, the music is probably amongst the game files!

The reason why we can't have "nice things" is that you actually suggest that I don't know Latin. >:(
Looks exciting. I'll try.
