Spoiler: Sun wins, but you don't care.

Race the Sun, a thrilling, yet strangely relaxing, high speed chase through beautiful otherworldly abstract landscapes, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week.

In Race the Sun, an abstract arcade racing title, you'll be doing exactly what the title suggests: flying towards the elusive horizon at extreme speeds. Maneuver your-lightning fast glider among obstacles as you pass them at impossible speeds, and take in all the beautiful sights and sounds this title has to offer. It's a meditative experience, that keeps you hooked by offering unlockable upgrades for your progress, and tracks your times against your friends' scores. The game comes with a built-in world editor, so you'll be able to create some amazing scenery yourself, and share them online. With sleek visuals and mesmerizing soundtrack, this title will have you both relaxed and excited, not to mention hooked to the screen from the first time you play it.

They say that the chase is much more important and gratifying than the goal itself. See that for yourself in Race the Sun, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 50% off launch discount offer lasts until Tuesday, November 12, at 10:59AM GMT.

IAmSinistar: Thanks for popping in here! I picked up the game from the Not On Steam Sale. Can you tell me how the GOG version differs, apart from the extras?

Also, I'm sure you've never heard of it, but there are some interesting parallels between this and the game Solglider. A solar-powered glider, collecting crystals, and running until the momentum gives out. As I say, pure coincidence, as very few folks know about this other game. But nothing new under the Sun, eh? ;)

aaronflippo: First - thanks for supporting us through the NotOnSteam sale!
The version here is actually identical to the version you bought there, except we *just* released an update this week! You can grab that on your flippfly dot com "my account" page.

I had never actually heard of solglider! We've been hearing about a variety of games that have similarities to RtS. Apparently the idea wasn't as original as we once thought, haha!

Kind of you answering all of that (and fast!). I must confess that I watched the trailer once without paying attention to the moving and diverse enviroment. Well, sure is far from the "demo", totally enchanced.
I had no idea about this multiplayer system. Is there ways to compete with other players? Is there a dedicated server? How to acess that? Is possible through there obtain new maps and mods? How to install that?
We are here for DRM free :) Though surely the keys can help you with sales.
I love soundtracks (sometimes more than the games heh) and is good to know that.
Sorry about the endless questions and you already sold the game to me!

aaronflippo: The multiplayer works through our online backend, which is one feature where you must be logged in using the account created with the key we provide with your purchase. You "share" your game and then pass a link to a friend (or just post it on Twitter or wherever) and anyone with the link can take on the next leg of the relay. This feature is admittedly a little rough around the edges; we'd like to improve it in the Steam version by letting you send in-game invites directly to your friends or within the Steam game invite system.
I never have saw this type of multiplayer... interesting. Thanks! Already playing it (need practice my eyes though to see things in slow-motion!)

CrowTRobo: This is exactly what I was thinking. I would not be surprised if it is a very good game. But we have to be honest, first impressions mean a lot. I'm sure the extreme minimalistic nature of the graphics have had a negative affect on sales. Having the graphical style compared to a 20 year old game isn't exactly a marketing plus. Yes, retro 2D graphics are very popular for indie games, but 2D ages so much better.
But that's the thing. Minimalistic is one thing, basic is another. Slapping down a primitive block and saying 'there's yer skyscraper' doesn't really cut it. I'm no Apple fanatic, but they do have a good range of examples of how minimalistic can still have a lot of thought put into it and be pleasing to the eye.

As yourself stated, there´s no absoulte meaning for , let´s say, minimalistic. So, you dare to say what is, when can be a lot of things, inside ina scope? I´ve been following the discussion and didn´t wanna participate, since I´m not in the mood for long-talk. Well, so, are you who puts what a minimalistic graphs must be nowadays? Too much omnipotence for me.

This isn't a debate about minimalism per se. Because it wasn't a required aesthetic for this game. It's more about how a lot of the screenshots are comprised of objects made up almost exclusively of primitives. Meaning they've been very, very quickly produced. It doesn't show much artistic input, which minimalism actually requires more of in order for it to work as an aesthetic choice. The few items in the environment have to be that much more considered - and clearly this applies to games too, because this one doesn't sit right with me, visually.

As wvpr said, the screenshots are somewhat deceptive. It's not really good looking when it's static, I agree, but when your hurtling though it at high speed in the sunset, it's quite nice (and very readable, when more detailed environment would have been blurry or confusing). You don't have time to look at the polygons, they simply zoom past you. It conveys a strong impression of speed, and speed is what this game is about.
Personally, I'm not too much into arcade, but I really like this game. :)
It looks promising.
It looks like Spectre! And that is absolutely amazing, and something I've been wanting to see again for YEARS! Thank you developers! This is tagged to be bought, and possibly bought for a friend, and absolutely definitely bought for a relative. Yesss stocking stuffers galore! I may have to wait till December/January to snag it (got a bit of a backlog to chew through) but I most certainly will. Muahahhaha!
