Become a Tri-System Confederation legend!

Privateer 2: The Darkening, an epic-scaled space trade and combat sim from the cult-classic Wing Commander series, with full motion video sequences starring Christopher Walken, John Hurt, and Clive Owen, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99. At the same time, we offer you a chance to expand your collection of Wing Commander titles, with our special 48-hour Wing Commander Series Promo!

This was not a pleasant reality to wake up to. They told you you've survived a crash which totaled your spacecraft. You can't really remember anything. You're not even quite sure if you belong in the Tri-System. All you have, is the feeling that this isn't the first time you've bounced back from falling to the bottom. You still have just enough currency to afford some flying rust-bucket. It'll do. As long as you have wings, you'll manage, somehow. There always are business opportunities for skilled pilots--dirty jobs that bring good money. A few runs and you'll be able to afford some upgrades, or maybe even a better ship. You'll gain recognition. Fame, even. Somehow, it feels like this all isn't happening for the first time. If only you could recall what dangers await bold pilots in this corner of Universe...

Privateer 2: The Darkening isn't a direct sequel to Wing Commander: Privateer, but rather a completely different adventure in a remote part of the universe governed by the Tri-System Confederation. In fact, there are some hints that both games take place in roughly the same time period, but the different settings give each of them its unique feeling. Originally released in 1996, the game offers solid open-ended space trade and combat mechanics, multitude of original missions to take on, an involving story, and full motion video cut-scenes featuring a cast of a-grade actors. If you long for the sensation of piloting your own star ship and living the space-privateer life on your own terms, make sure not to miss this classic title!

Set your helm for the Tri-System and experience a space adventure of yet another lifetime in Privateer 2: The Darkening, for only $5.99 on GOG.com! Don't forget about the Wing Commander Series Promo, as well, because it lasts only until Saturday, September 21, at 9:59AM GMT.

hunvagy: The original release was a DOS game. Darkening Gold is the Win98 version of Privateer 2.

Edit: seems it wasn't called gold, but Deluxe.

JudasIscariot: Ours is the DOS version :)
Ah, good to know. Think I'll grab it when I have more cash :D So that leaves us with Armada, Prophecy: Gold and Secret Ops, and we can have a complete WC collection here at GOG.

tburger: Had lost of issues with configuring it to play back in my time (issues came from sound card) - curious how gog handled this....
With DOSBox, probably. It cures cancer, takes care of global warming and causes eternal world peace, among other things.

I've never played Privateer 2, which is kind of feat considering I loved the first Privateer. Then again I haven't played the Privateer expansion pack yet either, maybe I should replay the whole Privateer 1 before trying this one.

Isn't Secret Ops included in Prophecy Gold? And wasn't iit free anyway?

F4LL0UT: Dang, now that I think of it - I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, Shadowman and this all in one month? September 2013 may actually be the best month since I joined GOG. All people whining about GOG not being about classics anymore should shut up and let GOG take their money!
Don't forget about Legend of Kyrandia. It may not be your cup of tea but there's no denying many of us danced with joy the day it was released here. :)

Ah right, Secret Ops is in Gold. My bad :) And the game being free never stopped GOG to add it to the library, right? *points to Flight of the Amazon Queen*

Dang, forgot about that one! Sorry! :D
It's amazing just how much better games were in the 90's, I mean John Hurt and Clive Owen in a video game is amazing, and you'd never see actors (either live or voice) of that caliber in modern games. Kinda reminds me also of Interplay RPG's like Fallout, BG, PST all had professional actors to do their voice work, it was so much classier back then.

No need to play the previous title as this game started out just as "The Darkening," it was only after EA's marketing department got nervous they slapped on Wing Commander: Privateer 2, there is no relation to WC: Privateer or even the Wing Commander universe other than the title.
Is it Privateer: The Darkening or Privateer 2: The Darkening? The headline uses the former, the rest of newspost uses the latter.

Actually it's Privateer 2: The Darkening but GOG desperately needs to save some bandwidth.
