In the dark, not alone.

Penumbra Collection, a set of three gripping horror games with a thick atmosphere of overwhelming terror and rich, interactive environment, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next two days!

Cold sweat running down your back, heart racing, you feel your hands tremble as you rest them on your keyboard. This is only a game--you tell yourself--I can play it, I can get through this. But the dimmed lights, and the silence of the night, make you feel like the real world does not exist anymore. It's only you, and the dark mystery before you. You can almost smell the damp, frowzy corridor as you progress slowly towards the half-open door. The darkness behind it swirls and creeps as if it was more than just the absence of light. It's only a game, you tell yourself once more--but the fear is real. It does not come from the screen. It originates deep inside you. It was always there, and the game it's just a trigger. Deep inside you suspect that dark things do exist in this world. The most frightening thing is: you start to believe it.

Penumbra Collection features all three episodes of the sensational horror series: Overture, that began the story of lethal terror and insanity, Black Plague, which picks up the tale where the first game abruptly ends, and Requiem, providing a chilling conclusion to the series. You will face unspeakable nightmares in eerie settings that will send chills down your spine while you unravel their dark and unnerving mysteries. From the masters of gaming frights, that later developed the memorable Amnesia: The Dark Descent, comes this modern horror classic. If you're a fan of the genre, your collection simply won't be complete without it!

There's more terror in the world than we can possibly imagine. Turn, and face the darkness creeping behind your back in Penumbra Collection, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 50% discount offer lasts 48 hours, that's until Thursday, August 1, at 9:59AM GMT.

charbon: Speaking of which, what is Frictional up to these days ?
I think it's not officially announced yet, all that is known so far is apparently that it's gonna be powered by their next engine and the features announced for that engine suggest that it's gonna take place in big outdoor areas including daylight. So... Slender: The Next Morning maybe?

tarasis: Nice release and great price. I already have it through buying it or a bundle (no idea which anymore) so it would be a bit daft buying it again here ... Except this way I'd get the PC version rather than the Mac version. Curses.

KainDrake: Well, if you got it through a bundle, you probably don't have the other two parts - just Overture, so there you go. :)
Digging into my emails, it seems I bought the Penumbra Collection off Frictional directly for €5.05 after having a coupon code from somewhere. Bought in April 2010 no less. Oops. Still only the Mac version
Well, after finding out that the Steam version is missing Black Plague and Requiem because of some publishing agreement, I'm buying the GoG version. I haver Overture on Steam through the humble bundle and planned on getting the complete collection later, but now I see that's not an option, so I'm going with the best thing. :D
I have Amnesia from a Humble Bundle but haven't got round to playing it yet, is the Penumbra Collection worth getting and playing before Amnesia or should I just move straight onto Amnesia?

Despite there not really being any story connection (someone earlier said that there were cylinders or something that were carried forward, but I must not have noticed), I'd actually say play Penumbra first. There was one room in Amnesia that was far scarier, IMO, because of elements from Penumbra.

For the story, you really only need to do Overture and Black Plague. Requiem is just physics puzzles like HL2 without the guns or Portal without portals.

I got the feeling that the cylinders were more of a thematic connection than an actual story/continuity connection. But who knows, maybe they did mean those to show an actual in-universe connection between those two stories, I have no idea really.

As far as the spoiler: I played Penumbra first and that never occurred to me! I wish it had! o_o
Great collection. Nice addition.
I spent some time playing Penumbra Overture yesterday and had a blast. The mechanics took some getting use to but it's a subtle first person perspective adventure horror game. Nice addition to GOG.

Ok thanks for this very helpful info, been away since I posted so missed this sale but will buy the Penumbra Collection when it's on sale again as it looks like playing Overture and Black Plague will enhance my experience of playing Amnesia.

Again thanks and +1 Rep :)
Funnily, it was added to GOG and removed from Steam because the publishing agreement had come to an end. So, is the GOG version here for long?
