The Last of The Dreamers is you.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul, a remarkable action-adventure game full of unique gameplay ideas and featuring a groundbreakingly complex alternate reality, teeming with life and waiting for you to explore it, is available on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

A fair warning: when you play this game, your very soul will be sucked into a strange realm where the glorious city of Omikron is troubled by demonic forces. The essence of your being will be trapped in this different dimension, doomed to inhabit one body after another, until you manage to find release. You'll have to explore the mysteries of Omikron, uncover the evil plot pushing it towards ultimate darkness, and fight your way through many dangers. You're the only hope of the Omikronians, and even your own fate is at stake. Sure, you might not believe it, but let's suspend disbelief for a moment. What if it's all true?

Omikron: The Nomad Soul, came way ahead of its time, with its lush and complex virtual world, diverse gameplay mechanics, and original immersive storytelling. It succeeded in creating an illusion of stepping into another world and obliterated the barrier between the virtual reality and our own. The project was so fresh, imaginative, and ambitious that David Bowie himself was more than willing to take a prominent part in the production. You can even meet his lookalike in the game and listen to him performing!

A brave new world awaits you in Omikron: The Nomad Soul, for only $9.99 on GOG.com. Just be advised, we take no responsibility for whatever happens to you in the other reality.

I've been waiting 14 YEARS to play this game. Sure, I got to mess around with the demo, but I never got a chance to get the full game because it didn't like my hardware.

ONCE AGAIN, GOG SAVES THE DAY!

This is why I try to buy all my software from GOG. You guys rock!

Tsugirai: I don't think GoG would have released it if that was the case.

inc09nito: So I thought about Sacrifice to find out later it didn't work on my laptop...
Sacrifice still doesn't work for you, even after the latest fixes? They finally got it running for me. /

tfishell: To anyone knowlegeable, I'm curious: is the 9.99 a justifiable price? This may seem greedy, but it feels a tad high to me for a single game from 1999. (Perhaps it feels that way because, unlike other Squeenix titles like Tomb Raider or Hitman, there's nothing "leading" up to it, like a pre-"Nomad Soul" title as part of an Omikron series that could have been 5.99.)
The legendary status of this game is well-deserved. While it may not be for everybody, it is definitely a classic. If you thought System Shock 2 was worth the price, then this game certainly is.

About 5 hours ago, I thought to myself, they're gonna release something great today. Just a sudden feeling that ran through my body. And you sure did GOG.

P.S.: Personalised lottery ticket numbers can be ordered every day between 7pm and 9pm CET for a price of a GOGie. ;) ;)
Always wanted to play this. Wishlisted :D
Never played this one, but looks interesting, how's the difficulty? The combat is combo-based or basically point and click?

Combat is combo based in the same way as standard 2D fighting games. You can set the combat and shooter sections to easy in the options so you can just breeze through them if you don't like them much.

Interesting, I don't like games with combo-based fighting (i prefer third person games with shooting like Max Payne) but if is possible to simplify this part then I will wishlist the game.

Can I do that in mid-game, in case I realize I don't enjoy these parts on normal difficulty, or do I have to decide to play in Easy mode right from the start, for the whole game?

I am not sure what you mean by "latest fixes". I tried it like two months ago (Windows 7, Intel integrated graphics) and it was crashing when loading a map to be played (main menu was ok).
Ooh,...nice!
Still have the original CD here...

Tell you what: this is an instabuy...Bowie alone is worth the 10 bucks ;)

Edit: oh wait...english only? Why GoG, oh why?...sorry, but no instabuy...(maybe later).

You do a combat tutorial within the first five minutes of the game in Kayls apartment, you can practice and play around for as long as you want to get a feel for it, the combat against enemies within the game plays in exactly the same way. So if you don't like it just set the option to easy and restart.

If my mind serves me right though I think you can change it on the fly during the game, there is no first person shooter training though and after an hour or so ingame you have to go rescue some people in a market. This is the first bit that is shooter.

Personally I would set the shooter bit to easy immediately, its not that its hard, its just very basic and the controls are simply awful on these sections and awkward which leads to death pretty quickly.
