The Secret Life of (not)Arabia.

Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworld, a sequel to the magical flying action game, with a brand new dynamic gameworld to explore, new challenging enemies, new mighty spells, and improved graphics engine, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

The secret art of weaving magical carpets capable of flight is now lost to mankind, but in the ancient times, when the mystical powers were still abundant in the world, every self-respecting magician simply had to have one. So, when the evil demon lord Vissuluth rose to power in the mysterious realm of Netherworld it was clear that the forces of good will meet him in battle in the skies. Once-prosperous land, now infested with monsters and terrorized by evil wizards needed a champion. The benevolent magician Kafkar saw that champion in his visions, riding a magic carpet into the heart of chaos and strife, gathering mana and firing mighty spells at his opponents, reshaping the foundations of the realm. That champion is, of course, you.

Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworld is a fast-paced, open world flying action game in which you soar through the strange skies of a fantastic land on a flying carpet. You wipe out your enemies with a wide range of offensive spells and gather the mana orbs that they leave behind, to accumulate even greater power. Just as most Bullfrog titles, this one too is a bit of a god game: you can either help or harass the nomads inhabiting the plains of Netherworld, and with spells like volcano, earthquake, and gravity well, you can even shape the terrain around you. With incredible giant monsters, unforgettable landscapes and unique mechanics, this game truly is a magical journey you'll never forget!

Feel free as you chase the clouds on the woven miracle that is Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworld, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

kalirion: Those look like 320x200 screenshots. Is the game not playable at 640x480 on DOSBox?
Already addressed earlier:

timppu: Just FYI, the game actually looks better than in those screenshots GOG provided, or at least should. The screenshots seem to be the game running in lores (320x240 resolution I think) graphics, but they can be swtiched to 640x480 quite easily.

G-Doc: Yup, we can confirm that game can be easily switched to the high-res SVGA mode. Here's a listing o MC2 key controls:

Toggle resolution VGA/SVGA: R

We couldn't include high-res screenshots at this time, due to some legal procedures we're obliged to follow. We'll try to replace them in the future.

Ah cool, thanks!

Legal procedures dealing with system requirements perhaps? :)
Never been a fan of the series, but it's a classic, so good release.

Crosmando: Hopefully we get Syndicate Wars on Thursday too :) Or maybe Powermonger.
Unless GOG can somehow remove or work out the rights to the clips of Ghost in the Shell that are in the Syndicate Wars game (skip to 4:32 in the video), i'm not sure I see that one getting released here.
Yay! I'm trying to remember whether I've actually ever played this one. It may have been just a demo. Time to rectify that. I love these old Bullfrog games.

Kunovski: I need a new joystick now!
What the...? A keyboard and mouse is all you need. I wouldn't even know how to play the Magic Carpet games with a joystick. Sounds awkward to me, as the games are little more than free-form FPS rather than flight simulators where the gameplay is concerned.

Someone I doubt it matters considering it was a GitS trailer those clips were from.
Nice to see another EA here, but seriously GOG: where is Privateer 2...where is WCP?

WHERE IS SIMCITY 3000 AND THEME PARK WORLD?!

G-Doc: F10: Toggle between 3D, stereogram, and normal mode
Weird, I could have sworn that those modes (or at least one of them) were removed in MC2. Also IIRC there's some key combo for quicksaving and you can just hold control and choose a spell by clicking on it with the left or right mouse button. You sure these are they key combos of Magic Carpet 2 and not the first one?

Oh yeah, also you forgot to list Enter which opens the map screen (although using it too often seemed to always result in a crash on any system I have played the game on - I'm wondering whether that's still the case in DosBox - I mean, the game was known to be released in a somewhat unfinished and unstable state).

G-Doc: And as long as we're discussing graphics here, It just hit me: our today's releases--Secret Agent and Magic Carpet 2--were published only 3 years apart. I do remember that the evolution of graphics in PC games was ridiculously rapid in the 90s, but seriously, from the remnants of EGA games in 1992 to 3D SVGA in 1995? Madness!
Even more madness when considering that MC2 is practically on the same visual level as the first game which is from 1994, that makes just two years from EGA to 3D SVGA. ;)

I suspect GOG is trying to milk SC2000 for all it's worth before they bring 3000. ;)

I agree with Theme Park, though. That one has almost 3000 wishlist votes, and TP World has 700+ votes.

Anybody know what the legal (or compatibility) situation is with Black & White? Something to do with Lionhead, Feral Interactive, or Peter Molyneux? Or being really difficult to get working on new machines? (Presumably there's no Glide compatibility.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_%26_White_%28video_game%29

Interesting. Well I don't know much about coding/source code, but presumably that's some sort of internal video file that plays? Would GOG need the source to find a way to axe that from playing in-game?

rather perfectly :) you can set a "speed control" for flying to longer distances, you aim as in a plane, you can... I don't know, it sounds awkward to me too now :D but that's the only way I've played, and I've played a lot!

now I'm really struggling with the mouse control - for example, how do I switch the mouselook for looking up/down?

You got a point there, but just about every media company in Japan has become really "anal" about copyrights in recent years, that's why I have doubts.
I checked out a youtube playthrough, and holy moly that is some fast-paced gameplay.
Does multiplayer actually work in this one? If it does, I might pick it up. Had never heard of Magic Carpet before GOG but I got hooked on the first one and really wanted to try the multiplayer out but the button was always non-functional for me.

Interestingly enough, Production IG, the studio that did Ghost in the Shell, recently took to Kickstarter to fund a short animated story (it succeeded I believe), and the author of GitS himself is known to be a real bro and close to fans. Somehow I doubt it.
