The return of an 8-bit legend!

The Lords of Midnight, a unique classic mash-up of RPG, strategy, and interactive fiction, faithfully recreated for modern systems, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99

The land of Midnight is in danger. The name of the villain menacing the realm is whispered in every homestead with fear and fascination: Doom... dark, Doomdark, Doomdark! Only the Lords of Midnight, the valiant knight protectors of the folk, can stand up to the accursed Whitchking. It will be no easy task, though. The lords will ride the four winds, looking for allies, recruiting their armies, and bringing light to wherever the shadow of Doomdark falls. Forging their legend with their every step, they would become the champions the land needs. Should they fail, all will be lost. Don't let them fail.

The Lords of Midnight was originally released in 1984. What you see here, is a revamped version of the exact same game, retaining its gameplay and graphical style, just adding some more intuitive interface and high resolution graphics. At its core, however, this is the exact same game that enthralled the imagination of many gamers almost three decades ago. The turn based game mixes elements of an adventure with a robust, well-written storyline, an epic wargame in which you manage and command large armies, and a role-playing game with much focus on exploration of the game's incredibly detailed landscape. Your main quest--defeating the evil Witchking Doomdark--is no easy task, and completing the game in any of the possible ways will prove a challenge. Let one of the oldest, yet greatest stories ever told in a computer game unfold before you!

See how deep, addicting, and fun computer games already were 30 years ago. Get The Lords of Midnight today, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!
The only first person turn-based strategy game I've every played (I wouldn't describe it as an RPG or an adventure). It is however absolutely absorbing if you can get past the limited graphics. Look forward to seeing Doomdark's Revenge as well. Perhaps Chris could even try his hand at making the lost third part of the trilogy, the Eye of the Moon...

Bloodygoodgames: I don't think some gamers on GOG have any clue how expensive it is running a website, updating games, paying PayPal, paying rent, electricity etc blah blah blah. It's like some people live in a vacuum with no idea about the real world and want everything for 'almost free'. The 'me me society' again :(
I am aware how much things cost since I have spent most of my life working in IT, but just because I spent three months lovingly polishing a turd and putting it in a nice box doesn't automatically mean people should pay me a thousand dollars. It's great that you're trying to improve the world by forcing your vision on it, but unfortunately that's not the world most of us live in.

Wow, you're a nasty piece of work, aren't you?

Roman5: Why isn't the original game included with this release?

This seriously hurts the value aspect of this title
The original game was only officially released on ZX Spectrum (and it's variations), and ported to Amstrad and Commodore 64.
Interesting new release (and I don't say that often on GOG anymore). Will probably buy, as I've wanted to experience this game for a while now.
Perfect release! Smells retro..
Oh the memories..

I had this on the Speccy, spent many an hour creating a map for it out of A4 paper...just an awesome game.

Sadly some people will never see past the garish graphics and simplistic views - I say to you please give it a go, you won't be disappointed. The depth created by such simple means, the dynamics involved are fantastic.

Cannot recommend enough - will be buying as soon as payday rolls around at end of month!
No brainer, sold.

On the downside i'm now out of a perfectly good excuse to dust off my speccy. :p

With the maturity level of the Vice codebase, shipping the c64 version doesn't seem like a big stretch.

The stronger argument is that it's not a good use of resources to get it going instead of making the game go. At this point it's like a 1-man show.

xep624: Wow... a remake of 30 year old game....
Not only that, but one that stands true to the original (ZX Spectrum) style (in much higher resolution) rather than being pimped-up with 3d graphics and visual effects.

Colour me very interested, and I have never heard of the game before.

I've just realised I might still have the old paper map i painstakingly made for it - can't wait to get home and dig around in the attic, see if its still there!
Brilliant, I have this on my tablet and phone but don't tend to play many games on there.

Will definitely be grabbing this when I get home. Excellent Strategy game with a hint of adventure game.
I'm seriously puzzled by this title. I don't knew if I should be excited or disinterested. '84 is when I started playing games and I'm not sure I want to go back there, even with revamped graphics. :P
