Wow skimming through the posts there seem to be a fair few people bitching about the price, maybe it is just the same people repeated. I see it for US $14.99 from steam currently, sure it is probably cheaper in sales on steam, so it is cheaper on sales from GOG 33% off now. I don't see what the problem is. Wait for a sale that suits your price.

I'm happy to pay US $9.99 and grab it now. I remember wanting to try this years back and never did.

My only real complaint is the exchange rate at the moment added 90 extra to the price for me and I can only blame the currency markets for that. I had a good run up until a few weeks ago.

Actually the game is a bit overpriced though. I just remembered that I bought the boxed copy including shipping for less than 10€, but many, many years ago. Even if there are extras included, it still is overpriced. Only with the usual 50% discount it will be a really good deal.

But that's the typical development of prices on Steam and GOG anyway. Standard prices are artificially high, so that discounts make sense. I don't like it but that's the way it is. So I guess one should best wait until christmas for buying it here.

On Steam Jade Empire Special Edition had a 75% discount but only like half a year ago. http://steamalerts.com/i/15118

WOW, this has been on my Steam Wishlist for a Loooong time... I didn't even know this was available on GOG... Not as cheap as I want it to be, but to hell with it, I'm fine with 10 and I've no real game to play right now.

CrowTRobo: ...From reading previous posts, it seems the battle system is simplistic, but do the battles get very repetitive and boring because of the simple system and easy fights? Considering its more action-oriented, this would seem to be a negative, yet it seems most people here who've played it have really enjoyed it. If you played the game, how are the battles? If they do get a bit boring, what about the game kept you playing despite this?
The story and the setting. I didn't find it short. Because of the boring battles I was actually grateful for the end, because I am not a player giving up in the middle, even if it hurts, if you know what I mean.

So Jade Empires has two sides. Boring battles and intriging story. Actually the battle is as boring as in Risen or a tad more boring than in KOTOR, but all/most cRPGs have boring battles.

CrowTRobo: I never heard of this game. I'm intrigued, like the setting but will need to wait - currently broke. I saw this on wikipedia:

Like the original version, the Special Edition has also been criticized for being too short and for having rather easy battles using a simplistic battle system

Sogi-Ya: it is KOTOR with Kunf-Fu instead of Jedi, the battles are exactly the same kind of "offer suggestions while your characters pretty much auto battle" ... which is funny because people gush over KOTOR's combat.

as far as length, I do not know as I never finished my Xbox version; I think if it -seems- short it is because this game has more branching based on if you are evil or good than what KOTOR did.

in KOTOR you pretty much did the exact same things, in the exact same places, regardless of if you were Jedi or Sith; if I remember right, this game starts taking you different places depending on your alignment and you won't see every location on a single play through ...... I think, it has been a while.
No, no, no. That is not true. I guess you only played the console version, which I'm not that familiar with.
There are NO auto combat in this PC edition. It is NOT KotOR.
You use the keyboard with 10 quick switch combat mode buttons. The PC edition also features higher resolution and slightly more character customization (extra fighting styles and magic gems).
I also believe they ramped up the difficulty in general, besides the extra difficulty level, to accommodate the better controls.

It is true that pure action gamers quickly will find ways to beat the combat, maybe even on the highest difficulty settings.
But please remember to enjoy the story. Especially the first time through. I enjoyed the story and the setting and was positively surprised by the length of the game.

Same here, it's a really good game which I thoroughly enjoyed, but I got a boxed copy for less than 10€ years ago. So I'd recommend getting the game, but for much less than the current offer.

I tried to play it on hard my 2nd play through recently and it was really lame. The enemies' damage is very high and one's own is pathetic plus the camera is mediocre at best and if you're surrounded it can be tricky to pull of any combos at all, that's what happened to me at least. Then again I was never much for 'challenging' melee combat system so I switched to the other abilities you've at your disposal and everything became more fun.

And John Cleese. What more does one need?

That's because, prior to being released on GOG yesterday, it wasn't. Hence the release page.
Incredibly underrated BioWare game. Probably my favorite from old BioWare (can't speak for ME and I thought DA: Origins was a bit boring).
The combat in Jade Empire is pretty dull except on hard. You can pretty much just punch people till they die, only stopping to do power attacks when they block.

On hard, though, it's a different story. You'll actually use support styles, both to set up harmonic combos and as a crowd control measure. Storm Dragon is one of the best for this. You'll also want to use chi strikes (coupled with harmonic combos) to do damage faster, and target priority actually becomes a thing to pay attention to. Hard only really becomes annoying against foes that are immune to both magic and support, and in a couple of the later arena matches. (The Ravager, for instance, is about ten times harder on hard than on normal.)

I generally prefer hard simply because there's a LOT of combat in Jade Empire, and I prefer it to be as interesting as possible. But you can switch it around at any time, so it's really not a big deal.

lol

Just get Storm Dragon to stun lock opponent, and switch to any other style then proceed to beat on opponent, then when Storm Dragon is about to wear off, switch to SD, stun again, switch to style etc...
rinse lather repeat.

Works no matter what difficulty.

Don't get me wrong.
This is one of my top 3 all time favorite games EVER!
Despite the previous "review" you don't need to be "3733+" in order to enjoy this game.

Nice to see this here, it's a good game. Not amazing, but it has some good ideas and the visual style is great if you like kung-fu movies and Chinese legends. Don't expect an awesome story though, and don't expect an 'authentic' treatment of the themes - for example, the moral system is heavily under an orientalist idea of the ethical, so regardless of anything the game says, the scale is still pretty much a traditionally Western 'good vs evil' line. If you care about those things then you're not really missing out, but if you don't mind then it's definitely a fun ride. :)
Out of curiosity, does the Steam version come with all these languages, too? That would also justify the extra cost here. I'd still prefer it at around $10, though. (Price drop here and on Steam)

It costs the same in every distributor, AFAIK. Regarding languages, the Steam version doesn't include Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian. I'm guessing that those come from CDP as distributor in the Eastern European territories.
