The future is furry!

Inherit the Earth, a classic point-and-click adventure game set in the post-human times when animals take over, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Is there a place for humankind in Earth's future? Many would argue that the planet is ours and we will inhabit it for as long as it can nurture life. This might not be the case. In this amazing story, humans are but the stuff of legends, a thing of the past long gone. Animals are the new rulers and they starting to resemble us in many ways, taking on our merits and flaws as a species. There is much uncertainty about the fate of humans and the origins of the animals civilization, and there are many secrets to uncover. One unwilling adventurer will face all the mysteries he wouldn't even dream of as his quest to clear his good name takes him on an unexpected journey.

Inherit the Earth tells an intriguing story of mystery and magic by the means of classic point-and-click adventure gameplay. It sports excellent pixel-art graphics that makes the future world vivid and the anthropomorphic characters believable. The quest that lies before Rif of the Fox Tribe, our main protagonist, is involving and it will keep you entertained down to the last click. If you enjoy point-and-click adventures of the 1990s, make sure not to miss this original little gem.

Venture into the woodland future and witness the adventure of our furry descendants in Inherit the Earth, for only $5.99.

RS1978: DOSBox brings a lot of nostalgia to me and I prefer its handling over ScummVM's. You can every DOSBox release use with ScummVM if you want, but if we get only the ScummVM files, we can't use DOSBox, so I prefer a DOS release.
.....
nostalgia how? It's running exactly the same graphics, the same sound, the same code.

Because I can use "debug" and add infinite health to The Lost Vikings using DOSBox, but not if I use ScummVM. Or does ScummVM allow me to use the old Dos tricks, for example keeping a backup of the jokers in Gobliiins?

ScummVM kinda has its own way of doing this with some games. But it usually has less to do with outright cheating and more with how it works on its own, so probably not as interesting.
Well, I've just played about 45 minutes of the game and, so far, it's quite enjoyable.

Interesting story, well written dialogue (and lots of it), very very good voice acting and, in parts, pretty funny.

Really enjoying this so far, so it looks like it was a good buy :)
Instabuy.

One of the game I wanted to have on GOG most.

This. I can use my little editors, the original setup routines, all parts of the software I'm accustomed to. I like the feeling of good old DOS too. It brings more from the original feeling of the good old days. As an additional option, ScummVM is great, but DOSBox let me more freedom.

Very sad decision to use an own port instead of dosbox or scummvm, especially since the game should work very well with both and so the use of an own port very likely complicates the support for gog. The only reason I see to use a port instead of scummvm or dosbox is to prohibit the use of the game on other devices like tablets or smartphones.

Btw, since a few days a new scummvm is out with support for Journeyman Project Pegasus Prime. Anyone knows if the publisher will use scummvm or also use it's own port for the game?

Pegasus Prime is indeed coming to GOG, using ScummVM.

Strangely enough, the original was exclusive to something called the Apple Pippin, a computer which I have never heard of.

Crosmando: *sigh*

I don't suppose there's any chance of GOG giving us a ScummVM version in the extras is there?
I too would vastly prefer a ScummVM or DOS version. It's just much more configurable and offers us more possibilities, and you can even use the improved soundtrack from this page if you like:

So please GOG and Wyrmkeep, make this possible for us, thanks. :)

Not a computer. A console, with a banana shaped controller that had a trackball.

Very good, I knew about the release on gog, but wasn't really sure about ScummVM. Thanks for the clarification. With the scummvm update there is also now official compatibility for dotemus Tony Tough. After the simultanous release of dotemus Raiden Legacy here and on dotemu.com it's maybe not unlikely we will see also Tony Tough here very soon.

Another game added to my looonnnng wishlist .

Crosmando: There's nothing DOSbox does that ScummVM doesn't, including all the filters/scalers/output options. And ScummVM actually emulates the game engines directly, while DOSbox emulates DOS which then runs the game. You can feel when playing how much smoother and more "native" the gameplay is on scumm.

It baffles me that GOG still bundle Police Quest and other adventure games with DOSBox instead of ScummVM.
At least if you have all those files you can always load it up in DOSBox. Usually if GOG gives you a ScummVM version, some of the files necessary for running it in DOSBox will be missing.

So in my opinion, DOSBox releases are superior because then you have the choice.
