The future is furry!

Inherit the Earth, a classic point-and-click adventure game set in the post-human times when animals take over, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Is there a place for humankind in Earth's future? Many would argue that the planet is ours and we will inhabit it for as long as it can nurture life. This might not be the case. In this amazing story, humans are but the stuff of legends, a thing of the past long gone. Animals are the new rulers and they starting to resemble us in many ways, taking on our merits and flaws as a species. There is much uncertainty about the fate of humans and the origins of the animals civilization, and there are many secrets to uncover. One unwilling adventurer will face all the mysteries he wouldn't even dream of as his quest to clear his good name takes him on an unexpected journey.

Inherit the Earth tells an intriguing story of mystery and magic by the means of classic point-and-click adventure gameplay. It sports excellent pixel-art graphics that makes the future world vivid and the anthropomorphic characters believable. The quest that lies before Rif of the Fox Tribe, our main protagonist, is involving and it will keep you entertained down to the last click. If you enjoy point-and-click adventures of the 1990s, make sure not to miss this original little gem.

Venture into the woodland future and witness the adventure of our furry descendants in Inherit the Earth, for only $5.99.

RS1978: Yes, and I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit with a GTX 260 (a little bit outdated, I know, but for this game it should be enough).

Thiev: There is a new version (2.0.0.7) on server which should have color issue fixed. Or, if you prefer, I can tell you how to fix your game, but it involves editing windows registry ;-)

Please re-download the game. I apologise for that slight trouble.
Thank you very much for your really quick support - I will wait for the new installer version. :)

Psyringe: Well, why not make all characters in Star Trek, humans instead of aliens? They aren't any more "alien like" than characters in fables are "animal like". Basically, as a writer in such a setting, you're using the species of the characters as a tool to create an interesting setting, mixing some familiar and (hopefully) some original tropes.

I'm not quite sure I understood what you meant though. How would a story with "animal like" characters work? They can't talk, so dialog is out. Their relations are very limited (predator/prey, part of a herd ...) and never change, so there's little room for character development. Their goals are even more limited (getting food, producing offspring), so which kind of story with "actual animal-like characters" would you tell?
Because Star Trek has humans, too. Furries, the characters as well as real people, are just humans in furry suits.
Rescue Rangers has animals operating on their appropriate scale in the human world.
Watership Down is specifically written to be indistinguishable from real life: what is described in it could have plausibly happened.

(EDIT: to clarify, the events of WD could be observed in reality, while the events of RR could have happened unobserved.)

(Redwall is nonsense, it doesn't have scale.)

mitsadoor: Isn't 6$ too much for this game?
avatar
Leroux: Didn't you answer your own question already? ;)

Anway, it's $13 or even 11 euros on the publisher's homepage, so I guess GOG made a good deal here. Besides there aren't any price points below $6 on GOG at the moment.
Well, there's the 3.99 ... errr, well there WAS a 3.99. I guess they stopped it? There are certainly a few titles on here that should go back to that, in my opinion (like Personal Nightmare).
That reminds me, they need to make an updated version of Rescue Raiders. I miss that game.

Thiev: right-click 'itewin.exe' and under compatibility tab check 'run in 640x480'
That should fix small window problem in fullscreen
avatar
Leroux: I tried the demo from the publisher's homepage and I didn't notice any difference in the colors when running the game in fullscreen, but when I check 'run in 640x480' under the compatibility tab, the aspect ratio is not quite right, the image is stretched a little to fit the screen (when in other games, I'd automatically get the preferable small black borders on the sides in order for the game to display the correct ratio). But what's even worse, while the image fills the whole screen, the mouse cursor still has access to a restricted and smaller area only, meaning e.g. I can't point the cursor to the leftmost end of the screen if I want to leave or pick up items in that range. Has that been fixed in the GOG version or can I expect the same issues I have with the demo there?
I have a similar problem. If my laptop is plugged into my large monitor and I change it to 'run 640 x 480' it looks weird and stretched and the colors are off. If I try to run it on my laptop, ie: not plugged into the monitor, no matter what I do it's still a small box in the middle of the screen.

Will fiddle with it a bit more but, either of these ways, it's not that comfortable to play

Yeah, that was just a temporary experiment; no idea if they've concluded that it's worth it or if they are still analysing the results. I believe no new game release has ever been below $6 though, apart from the freebies; the $3.99 games were all titles that had been on GOG for a while already.

Anyway, from what I've seen this seems to be worth it, and on my netbook the fullscreen mode works perfectly with 'run in 640*480' checked, displaying the game just as it would probably have looked in DOS. Wishlisted for now! :)

Whether it's stretched or not, depends on your GPU's scaling settings.

Huh?

Again please :)

The weird thing is that my desktop already has the correct GPU's scaling settings enabled and does scale other games correctly. But nvm, the demo scales fine on the netbook, and that's where I'd prefer to play the game anyway. :)
Now this is what I'm talking about, great release gog, old boy, you still got it. Sometimes. June certainly started promising!

I wouldn't mind if it would play decently on either notebook or monitor but it has different problems on each :)

Stretched side to side on the monitor with black borders top and bottom. On the notebook, not stretched but 1 1/2 inch borders top, bottom and both sides.

Ah well, looks like I'll have to play it on the notebook with the four black borders. Not ideal, but at least the graphics themselves aren't stretched and its playable okay.

it actually already looks like a nice and fun game. Just a pity about the resolution.
*sigh*

I don't suppose there's any chance of GOG giving us a ScummVM version in the extras is there?
Colors working fine now in German version, thanks to the new installer and to Thiev's effort.

I second that, but I would prefer a DOS release or at least all necessary files for a custom DOSbox configuration.

There's nothing DOSbox does that ScummVM doesn't, including all the filters/scalers/output options. And ScummVM actually emulates the game engines directly, while DOSbox emulates DOS which then runs the game. You can feel when playing how much smoother and more "native" the gameplay is on scumm.

It baffles me that GOG still bundle Police Quest and other adventure games with DOSBox instead of ScummVM.

DOSBox brings a lot of nostalgia to me and I prefer its handling over ScummVM's. You can every DOSBox release use with ScummVM if you want, but if we get only the ScummVM files, we can't use DOSBox, so I prefer a DOS release.

Edit: I love ScummVM for its support of King's Quest 6 HiRes and it would be great if GOG could do a official release for this version.
