The famed campaigns of Alexander the Great, Hannibal, and Julius Caesar.

Great Battles Collector's Edition, an anthology of three realistic classic turn-based historical wargames, recreating the famous campaigns of iconic military leaders, with scenario editor included, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

If soldiers are the cogs of war, the generals are the springs at the heart of the mechanism, making the whole thing tick in an orderly fashion. Throughout the history of military, there were many great leaders presenting unbelievable tactical genius that could turn around the course of what seemed like a lost battle. Some of them achieved such a feat once in the whole lifetime, being at the right place in the right time by a twist of fate and history. There were also some, that took the great battle with them, anywhere they went. This collection of games tells the story of three such brilliant tacticians.

Great Battles Collector's Edition is an anthology containing three classic wargames: Great Battles of Alexander, Great Battles of Hannibal, and Great Battles of Caesar. In total, the numbers of historical scenarios you can play here amounts to over 30. The games are heavy on realism, accurately depicting the historical units and equipment. With clear visuals and turn-based combat mechanics you have the chance to follow in the great leaders' footsteps, matching or even improving their battlefield performance. With the added scenario editor providing unlimited supply of challenges, you could command virtual armies for months!

Recreate some the greatest military events in history with Great Battles Collector's Edition, now on GOG.com, for only $5.99!
Not even one gameplay footage exist on Youtube. The game must be really obscure.

I think it's needed. Another issue is the title of the game is too common. Most of the result related to some documentary. movie, adaptation etc.

Maybe i'm the minority but i never heard of this game before.

Ah, DukeNukemForever you beat me to the punch!

I remember seeing these games and wanting them, but at the time the price seemed to never go down. Of course the Total Rome versions would be better, but who knows if GOG will ever get them? Hoping they will get Sid Meyers Gettysburg and some Talonsoft wargames and such. Thanks for not forgetting you armchair generals GOG!

I actually tried to buy a boxed game with almost the same title (History Channel: Great Battles of... ) on ebay recently, but I gave up due to high shipping costs from USA and poor reviews (2-3 years ago there were hardly any TBS games around). This game is not the 2007 remake and altough the graphics look poor today the game looks fresh when you compare it with Total War series formula games.

I was playing heaps of games in the end of nineties, but I don't remeber this title at all. I'm happy gog brought it hear from oblivion and becasue this game got a few good reviews (good score at gamerankings.com), I'm going to buy this one for sure! Thanks gog Team!!
Can anyone tell me how these (the GOG version) run in Windows 7? I LOVED these games back when I had a win98 pc (pre 2000-2001), still have the cds but have never been able to get them working properly on Windows XP or 7 since, trying every workaround I've found on the web and on multiple computers over the years. I know GOG games are usually (always?) compatible with current OS's, but just wanted to make sure before I purchase them.

Gamespot shows small numbers of people still playing these titles currently and this is not taking this new release into account. I thought that was kind of cool.

Here are reviews of the games that offer some in depth info about the game play, etc. that you may find interesting. They look good in my opinion after reading about them:

http://www.gamespot.com/great-battles-of-alexander/

http://www.gamespot.com/great-battles-of-hannibal/

http://www.gamespot.com/great-battles-of-caesar/

By the way, as always I would not pay much attention to the overall numeric rating given to each game by the reviewers, not that any of them were bad, but rather read them for the details that help you decide if you think you'd enjoy the games. I say this because the first game, Alexander got a fair rating while the two following games got good ratings and yet there was really nothing in the review to back that up versus the two more favorable ones. That said, the details on the games is certainly a good read for anyone interested in them.

By the way, I thought the Hannibal review was the best written of the three if you just want to read one. What it tells you about the gameplay extends to the other two games as well anyway.

Nice release of classic gaming goodness GOG!

G-Doc: There won't be any site glitches, no release thread hijacking, no LucasArts confirmations official or not, not today.
i want to believe that "not today" is GOG's way of saying be patient.
Historical you say? Turn-based you say? Very grognardy you say?

Well gee, I mean I was going to use my lunch money for, well, lunch.
