Gazoinks: Most of the RPG-ness, though, comes from the dialog. There's a lot of freedom in how you roleplay you character and what sort of things you can do in events and stuff. It's also worth noting that the game often lets you fail battles, with different results happening when you do, instead of just throwing up a game over.
Right.

So, where did I put those 20 bucks...
Speaking of which, it's worth mentioning that the initial Hispaniola intro campaign is relatively linear (though there's still plenty of RP potential , I'm talking mainly about progression), but the game becomes much more open and sandboxy once you get to the mainland).

Gazoinks: I'll take it.

Kristian: You are too late Valve already took it and delivered the game on all supported OSes.
You know, you can just go away and not need to keep badgering about the all OSes schtick.

Woolytoes: Would be really happy to have a Linux version on GOG too. But I fear that's not gonna happen in the near future.

gooberking: It feel like having to choose between children some times. Do I want Bobby DRM-free, or Roberta Linux? So sad some days.
Or you can go Desura and have both!
avatar
Elmofongo: But then there is Total War where you play as Nepoleon Boneparte and he was the Hitler of the 19 Century :P
avatar
Phaidox: Except he wasn't.
Hitler would have never established anything resembling The Napoleonic Code... More importantly, for the most part, Bonaparte ended up being dragged into military conflicts due to a series of coalitions recklessly determined to crush the French Empire, constantly declaring wars against it.
Eh...early on, sure. Later, he was the one consistently pushing and pushing every situation until conflict was the only answer. French intransigence LED to many of those coalition forming. It isn't like the Russians and the Austrians and the Prussians liked each other, but they hated France more.

I haven't crossed the Desura line yet. I like having all my gaming eggs in one basket. It gets a little confusing spreading purchases around, but if GOG doesn't come around then maybe I'll give the girl a go. Maybe I will like it.
Had a quick play today, my thoughts (not going to write a review until I actually put some real time into it)

-Game is nicely presented and the dialogue is well written and has nicely branching trees.
-Combat system is simple and nicely thought out. A bit more UI feedback regarding cover might be nice. It takes a lot of rules from D&D which means that you can pick it up pretty fast.
-The skills and feats are very varied. Seems like you can really create "roles" within the classes.
-The game is HARD. After the combat training I didn't think I'd get my shit slapped quite so quickly. My first battle was a mess, people dying left right and centre, tribesmen crawling over my camp as all my interrupts fail because it's pitch black. My second attempt went much better, I still lost the battle but it was a much closer defeat (got them down to one guy who managed to get lucky and quickshot my two remaining men).

The game has that annoying thing where it gets into your mind and taunts you for sucking so much as it. Temple of Elemental Evil had much the same effect on me.

Next time...

Yeah, this is something that should probably serve as a warning to people. Even on Normal the game can be pretty unforgiving, as the AI is quite strategic and you're just as fragile as they are. This is especially true early on when you haven't pinned down strategies yet. Happily, the difficulty is very adjustable though.

Glad to know the AI is pretty good :)

It was a big surprise for me in the betas! In the first beta it was meh and thus the game was fairly easy. Then in the next beta it was suddenly covering its flanks and flanking my guys and I got trounced in the tutorial battle. x_X

HiPhish: I don't know much about graphics cards, but this is insane for the Mac:
NVIDIA GeForce GT650M or ATI Radeon 6770M with 2 GB VRAM or higher
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. 256MB VRAM for Windows vs 2GB for Mac. It can't be right so I did some searching and it must be a typo. Other sites are listing the minimum for Mac as 256MB VRAM. For instance, per Steam (though notice Steam screwed up the RAM reqs, heh):

Minimum:
Processor:Dual Core 2.6 GHz or AMD64X2 2.6 GHz
Memory:2 MB RAM
Graphics:nVidia GeForce 8600 GT or higher, ATI Radeon X1800 or higher, min. 256 MB VideoRAM, Shader Model 3.0

Recommended:
Processor:Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 or higher, AMD Phenom X3 8750 or higher
Memory:4 MB RAM
Graphics:nVidia GeForce 280 GTX or higher, ATI Radeon HD4870 or higher, 512 MB VideoRAM, Shader Model 3.0
Does seem intriguing.

And obviously the MAC specs are messed up. If on windows you need 2GB processor and only 256MB video RAM, no way on a MAC you need a 4GB processor and 4GB video RAM. No?

Damn. Another game that I want. Will this never have an end?

As does GOG. GOG supports Windows and Mac and provides game for both platforms. GOG does not (currently) support Linux so it does not provide Linux versions. When GOG eventually announced Linux support, Linux versions will be uploaded to games that have them.

Exactly the same feeling I have. Fortunately I have more games to choose than time to play. I could also say unfortunately ...

Sure, If GOG ever does support Linux, then probably yes. But until then Linux users will have to go shopping at Steam which could be seen as competitive disadvantage of GOG.
