Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving.

Evoland, a console-style RPG that starts off as very basic 8-bit(ish) game and evolves to become more advanced and complex as you play it, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week!

What makes a console-style action-RPG? This is a concept that has been evolving immensely over the years. So, why don't we take all that defines--and used to define--this genre and put it in one game? Why don't we make the player observe the evolution of gameplay-types, ideas, and visuals, as he progresses further in the game? Why not give him or her the chance to upgrade the game itself, from within the game? Intriguing, right? Well, that's exactly what Evoland is about.

Evoland is a concept game, but unlike many other concept games it offers much more than gameplay based on a gimmick. The story that the game tells you in its unique way is alone interesting enough to make it well-worth playing. The fact that in this single game, you're getting the whole history of console-style action-RPGs in a nutshell can be treated just as a bonus feature. In the end, though, you might find that the main drive for you is to find just one more upgrade-chest and find out how it will affect the gameworld. With many aesthetics and mechanics tightly packed together, waves of nostalgia passing as you play, and a high level of polish, this original title is something you should really check out!

Get upgrading! Start with upgrading your computer with a fresh copy of Evoland, for only $8.99 on GOG.com. The discount will last until Thursday, April 11, at 10:59AM GMT.

Bloodygoodgames: This was a must buy for me :)

Come on guys. A truly unique game. Created by a brand new developer (they just opened middle of last year) and it's their first game. And only 9 bucks -- price of 3 lattes.

Plus, for me, they're European, which gives me even more impetus to buy it.

Already grabbed it and will post a review on my website as soon as I've finished playing it.

BTW -- it also says it's in English, French and German as well for all those bitching about how GOG rarely gets games in other languages :)
They hammered it out that quick? There are so many game play variations to create it's impressive they managed tor roll them all up into one game, and they all look very good.

I'm worried it may be its own enemy. What if I really, really like that one moment in time? Then there is no game to play, only the game fragment. I was very drawn in by the FF style fight scenes, but I was then afraid there wouldn't be enough if them.

Could be wrong and it could be fun, and it could be worth it simply on its uniqueness alone as an experience for all of 9bucks.

Read the review I posted above. They LOVED it :)
This looks really nice!, definitively I'll get it at some point ^_^
This one looks exremely interesting. Will wait for some reviews before buying it though.
Alright......got a huge soy latte, a massive piece of banana cake and have the air conditioning cranked (it's over 100 degrees here in Bangkok - I'm dying). Evoland is downloaded and I'm off to get started playing.

Will come back in a couple of hours with initial impressions. I'm sooooo excited :)

I was thinking about it too. I may like a particular style and want to complete most of the game on that style, only to be forced to upgrade a few minutes into it. Or maybe it will let me keep that style. I'll definitely look into it.

It would usually go towards the wishlist, but as Bloodygoodgames pointed out the devs may be deserving of an extra push. Oh well, I have a week to think about it. Let's see what the weekend brings us first.

Somehow am I reminded of the opening of "Apocolypse" Now when he's laying in the 100+ degree hotel room slowly going insane.

FYI 15 degrees F here. :D

Game looks good, not my thing tho.
Looks like it could be ok, kind of cute look to it. As it is late I'll take a better look and maybe get when I get home from work tomorrow.
Ohhh, this looks so very interesting... but its small file size has me concerned this isn't going to last more than an hour or so. How replayable is the game? If it takes several playthroughs to get the full and complete experience, maybe it'll be worth the 9 bucks. Otherwise... yeah, I'll wait for a sale.
high rated
Far out, it's like Retro City Rampage for smart people.

deonast: Wow that is going to be the most expensive game on GOG ever
"is available 10% on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week! " so if $8.99 is 10% of the price then full price is $89.90 or is there something "off" with that statement :)

Robette: No, it means 10% of the game are available here and the remaining 90% are spread throughout other platforms.
It says "10% off" on GOG, so $8.99 instead of $9.99.

Nordwolf: This game looks very interesting, indeed. Will definitely try it sooner or later. It seems, if GOG could use the code and turn it "upside down", they will have the source code for their RetroMator ;-)
First game ever using the RetroMator Engine X-D

I am excited with the concept of this game. I do look forward to playing it in future. However, I must wishlist for now due to time. All the better for GOG though, they make more money from me this way.

I've been playing for 2 hours now and have died I don't even know how many times (god, I forgot how difficult 8-bit gaming can be when you haven't used controls like that in decades :)

I hit 3-D gaming about 30 minutes ago but, from looking at the stats in the game and the 'cards' still to collect, there's still quite a bit more gaming to go. As it stands right now, if I can't figure out how to kill a room full of fire-throwing magicians quickly I'm toast -- literally :)

Awesome game so far. Incredibly fun but, not only that, it really does take you from the very first basic game all the way through to modern day. What's incredibly cool about it is you forget how MANY things have been added to games -- things we just take for granted nowadays and that make a gaming experience so much deeper and more enjoyable.

Loving it so far. Taking a break for a bit -- rabbits to clean out and to feed and then will be back to it. Will post again later about the time I've played for those who worry about a 'short game'.

So far, though, I have to say highly recommended if only because a) it's fun and b) for any gamer who enjoys classic games it's SENSATIONAL to understand the history of gaming and all we've been privy to in the decades since the first game came out.

One of the most unique games I've ever played, btw. Okay.......off to the rabbits :)
